i had Teliax about a year back and was happy with them. Then, they switched from Asterisk to Freeswitch and their service went down hill fast with lots of service interruptions, dtmf issues among other problems. I cancelled and did not consider them again. lately I was shopping for a service to host conference calls and was looking at Voip.ms since I was looking for a pay as you go service with at least 10 or more channels available to host a conference bridge. I called one of my friends who still uses them and said that they had gotten alot better so i decided to give them another try. So far I have only held one conference and made a few outbound calls but their service seems to be good, with clear quality and low latency to their Atlanta proxy from my location in south florida. Its still a little early to tell, but so far they have redeemed themselves.

I have been using Vonage since they first started. I have "played" with Teliax services before by using the Cisco iPhone and other devices.
I finally decided to move my numbers over to Teliax in June. I have submitted my LOA to port my 3 numbers over to Teliax. My equipment is setup and working, ready to go! I am waiting to see how the port will go. Vonage to Teliax, my fear being Vonage letting me go and not making the port tough.
You really need to know about VOIP to get this working correctly. It would probably be a horrible experience for someone to get this working well without some knowledge or help. They offer support but I have not tried them.
I am going to save over $50 a month by switching from Vonage to Teliax! Plus, with the flexibility to use whatever devices you want I can carry a portable phone that supports WIFI and SIP wherever I have WIFI.
Call quality is as good as Vonage, maybe a little better, because I have complete control over the settings from the device on out.

I've had service from them for years. It is inexpensive, reasonably good quality, and great for occasional international calls. The service goes down periodically, and is not reliable enough for use as a primary phone line.

Signed on with Teliax for a second, occasional use line. Since the fall of SunRocket, and review of my actual useage, decided a full service line was not needed. Why pay a high monthly fee if I don't use it often. Setup was really easy, and I was able to program my old Innomedia within 5 minutes. I later upgraded to a PAP2v2, and again, no issues. I tested for use with a FAX machine, and no problems in/out, and works with my DirecTivo. Low cost setup, and low cost per minute. You can even set your own CID name/number via their easy to use member portal. Definately worth it for a secondary low use line. Monthly full service prices comparable to most others also.
UPDATE: 5/30/2008: Been with the a while now, but the honeymoon is over. Honestly, I do not use it very often. Fax and DirecTivo connections, when it works. My BYOD adapters seem to not complete calls, even though they show registered. I usually have to reboot in order to be able to connect. Quite the pain if I need to recieve a fax. Their website and Control Portal seem to be in some sort of limbo state. It looked as if they were stepping up in the VoIP world, and it looked good, but somehow the ball was bobbled. I am keeping the service for now, since I have a running balance, and I need to test for alternates that I can use my Fax and DirecTivo with.
UPDATE 9/2008 Things have been getting better. Now that things are transitioned to their new platform. DirecTivo and fax working great, and they have Fax2email inbound, which works great. I have made some adjustments to my adapter, and things are great. My Tivo never fails on call, and Fax works great outbound, without issue.

My joiphone account went dead over the weekend. I made the jump to Teliax and I'm glad I did. The rates are competitive but not the cheapest and the service is great. They have good plans to choose from. Overall I'm very happy. Joiphone really burned me and I was more than a little upset,

For a while now I have wanted to set up my own Asterisk network in my house, so I needed a good IAX trunk provider. I prefer IAX over SIP because IAX uses only one port rather than 4 or more like SIP, but that is another story.
I chose the pay as you go plan from Teliax, which is $5 a month for a phone number plus 2¢ per minute. The local phone company lowest rate is upwards of $20 a month just for the line, not including calls. Teliax provides easy instructions to set up an asterisk box (using TrixBox software package), as well as nearly instant registration. I was signed up and then making calls within an hour!
They support both SIP and IAX, so choose your flavor. I haven't had to deal with tech support yet, but the site is a great resource so I give that a 4. Call quality is about the same as a PSTN line, so 3 there. Haven't tried VOIP to VOIP.
No contract, no surprises, no waiting. I like all of that.

I'm using Teliax for our Asterisk setup at work. So far, it's been great. Initially, had some problems with inbound, but I'm pretty sure it was because of a misapplied setting on their portal site.

I've used Teliax for a PAYG DID and a limited amount of termination since 2005. At the time, they were competitive on price and had (and still do) the option of IAX trunking. They weren't sending an IAX username at first, but once I opened a ticket, they changed my account to do so within 3 hours.
Aside from 3 or 4 short outages that I wouldn't have known about were it not for my monitoring systems, they have been rock solid. Quality is excellent, and they seem to only using premium termination, so there are never issues with calls being misconnected or other call failures.
My only other issue with them was a small billing snafu related to their minimum billing increment that caused me to be overcharged for a few months back in 2006. They fixed the issue with their billing software and credited me the proper amount within a couple of days after I notified them of the issue, so again I can give them a pass, since they dealt with it with a minimum of fuss.
Currently, they still have the high quality and reliability that I have long valued. Sadly, however, their pricing is not as competitive. Their international rates are more expensive than other providers, although still very low compared to traditional telcos, but they still charge $4.99 a month plus 2c/min for DIDs, and are still at 2c/min US termination. Not awful, but more than can be had from other high quality providers, especially given that the DIDs don't include any incoming minutes whatsoever.
In summary, Teliax is very reliable and of very high quality, but their pricing has failed to keep up with the times.

| Teliax FYI, on the new Teliax site local calls are only 1c/min. Regarding the $4.99/mth per DID...I still have a pots line at my house, costs me $43/mth (callerID and call waiting are additional *paid* features). Maybe if I needed 100 DID's from Teliax then $4.99/mth would be a lot... then again if I had 100 employee's maybe $500/mth wouldn't be a big deal. Anyway, five bucks a month and 2c/min doesn't seem like a lot for a full featured, centrex style, unlimited line phone number. Especially if the support, quality and reliability are there. I guess it all comes down to how you use it. Yeah, others may offer cheaper DID's with less features, less support and less reliability but how long will they stick around? You-get-what-you-pay-for, etc. etc. | |

less reliability but how long will they stick around? You-get-what-you-pay-for, etc. etc. The only missing feature my other DID provider offers is a channel cap, but that's because they actually include large amounts of minutes. I don't need 43 simultaneous incoming calls. If I had my druthers, I'd have about 4, but for $5 a month flat rate, I'll deal with two. It's never been a problem.
When I first signed up for Teliax, they didn't even have CNAM for that price, but they do now, not that I really care. The number is all I really need.
Other providers that go the Teliax route of charging per minute on DIDs usually only charge $2 or $3 a month and 1c a minute, which seems more reasonable, given what they are paying for the DID.
Again, my problem with the pricing isn't the $4.99 a month in and of itself (after all, I'm happy to pay twice that for a number in Rio, although that is flat rate), it's the $4.99 a month combined with 2c a minute incoming. If they dropped it to 1c a minute, I'd be happier.
As far as their international rates are concerned, to most destinations they're out to lunch, but as I mentioned in the review, their reliability makes them a reasonable backup to another less established provider, even when they charge 20c more a minute to many destinations. -- It's wierdo, not weirdo. Yes, I know that's not the 'proper' spelling of the similar english language word. | |

I've been utilizing Teliax for about two years now. Reliability, has gone from reasonable, to really good. Not the lowest cost voip, but for a business cost is not always the most important when it comes to phone service.
