The internet speed is pretty decent, Speedtest.net shows 4.18Mb/s download speed and 0.65Mb/s upload speed
    »www.speedtest.net/result/628963614.png

The customer support is responsive and helpful, which is good because you might need to call them many times before you can get your internet up.

When I got the modem, it couldn't connect to the internet, but the instructions said it could take up to 8 days before the internet can be activated. I called them on the eighth day and it turns out they were notified by bell that my internet couldn't be activated because I didn't have a 'circuit ID', I needed a dry loop. I was a bit annoyed since they could have called or emailed me about this so I wouldn't have had to waste 5 days waiting.

So now I ordered a dry loop, and they told me Bell will send someone the next Monday sometime between 9am and 5pm. My credit card was charged and I waited home all day Monday but no one came. When I called again to ask what happened, I was told the person I talked to last time forgot to register the installation (even though he remembered to charge my credit card) and I had to wait another 4 days.

But it's working now and the speed's fine so far.

Except delayed activation for 2 days, everything else is perfect, 90% of time getting 300-450K dowloding speed on P2P software, sometime even over 500K, better than Rogers cable from my experience in terms of P2P downloading, never need to log into my account check for usage everyday.

    never disconnected in one month.

    Acanac . . .

Well i ordered the special for acanac. After receiving my modem and everything, pluging it all in. the dsl internet doesn't even work. i waited and waited , and still not signal. I call acanac asking them why it did int work. they said i got my service with my bell home phone . So basically i wasted my time. on ordering acanac internet, ending up not working. THEY SHOULD OF TOLD ME BEFORE I ORDERED IT. wasted my time on driving to there HQ in toronto to return the modem. I CANCELED MY ROGERS internet to order the stupid acanac. so basically just a waste of time for NOTHING . NOTHING. now i gotta call rogers and order internet again. get my full refund of the 200$xx . what a waste of time.\
    THANKS ACANAC.

Ordered late Friday, had modem in my hands on Wednesday evening and it was pre-configured. I unplugged the Bell modem, plugged in the Acanac one, and everything just worked. One minor configuration change to the router, and everything was good to go.

Good speed, fast order and config process, fast, and a hell of a lot cheaper than Bell.

2 weeks in, the only regret I have is that I had to wait for the Bell contract to end.

It normally arrives within a few business days. I would call the sales department and ask them to check on your line status. You should of received the modem by now.

I'm using a bell speedstream 4200 or bells wireless one (I have two). The lady "michelle" said it should work just fine. Just ordered after reading every single review on here, some bad some good but I chose to give them a chance because they offer a great deal. Am hoping everything goes smooth. I will get alot of family and friends to join if all is well after the year.

I will also post a review when the year is near.

A few weeks into the Acanac service, and I can't help but recommend them.

Plug-and-Play install, great intro price, smooth and no port blocking, all I can ask for. And next year, still one of the best prices around.

Having had Acanac DSL for a while now I must say I'm very happy with the service. There were some issues in the beginning but they were taken care of quickly by very responsive support, partly here in this forum. I can recommend it do anyone who wants a cheap and good broadband solution with excellent support.

Now to the VOIP service. It seems to live in a completely different world. Bad call quality at the peak hours, dropping outgoing calls after 60 minutes, doesn't ring on multiple devices, dismissive support. The only good thing is the price but it isn't enough if you plan to use it as your primary home phone. I can only recommend it if you need a cheap backup phone that you don't plan to use much.

Sorry that you've had issues with the Voip, I've had the same Voip for 2 years now with no real issues.
I'd recommend it to anyone I know.

I've been using them for 1.5 year now and basically never had a major failure!
(At first bell didn't setup the line speed correctly but that was quickly fix by posting on the support board)

I once had an hour downtime or so but that's _very_ rare (maybe happened 2 times in 1.5 year?)

So except for the annoying post-1-year contract auto-renewal which makes me feel trapped I'm pretty happy...

    My Other Reviews·Rogers Hi-Speed
After getting fed up with Rogers' price hikes for Highspeed over Cable, and with the impending cap enforcement and drop in monthly usage amount, I decided to test out Acanac's DSL Highspeed.

From the get-go, their reps here on DSLR (Paul and Sandro) were amazing sources of information. Regardless of the questions that I asked, they had the answers that I needed and were quick with their responses. After making my decision to sign up with them, I received my modem, pre-configured and ready to go. I'm usually the kind of person who likes to do a lot of research into the best setup and how to get the most out of any piece of hardware, but setting up the modem was one of the easiest things I've ever done. Switching the modem to Bridge mode so that I could use it with my existing wireless router was also a short and simple process.

However, with the good must come the bad. I noticed that I wasn't getting the full potential of speed that I could be, especially with the line attenuation stats that I had, so I decided to contact their tech support and see if anything can be done. The reality of my situation, and as others have experienced, is that any company renting lines from Bell will have to do what I like to call "the dance" before anything gets done to remedy a problem. Out of all the CSRs I spoke with, one of them was rude to me (reminiscent of several of my conversations with Rogers CSRs), but every other CSR I spoke to was very polite and willing to help me.

Furthermore, after a while, I realized that part of the problem that I was experiencing was some faulty equipment. It turned out that both the filters and the modem that Acanac had sent me were defective (through no fault of their own). After contacting Paul to let him know of my situation, during a 48 hour period, I received a new modem. That to me is EXCELLENT service.

In addition to getting all of my problems resolved, I have no usage caps and the lowest price that I could find for such a service ANYWHERE! I'm nearing the end of my second year of service with Acanac, and pretty much everything that could have gone wrong has (which hasn't been much), and has been handled with care. I now also have access to a virtual Online PC with an additional 150GB of storage (which is on a 24mbit connection to boot!).

I would HIGHLY recommend anyone looking to switch to another ISP to consider Acanac. I would suggest (if you're on DSL) taking advantage of their 1 month free trial and seeing for yourself.

Acanac, close to two years later, and you've STILL got yourself a satisfied costumer!

thanks for the review! i just signed up for acanac and will be hooked up on oct 13th. heres hoping to good experiences as well.

i also understand the whole 'dance' when you deal with resellers. the only thing i did not like about the sign up experience so far is that it seems like acanac does not actively contact you about anything. if i didnt call into acanac myself, i would have had no idea about when my dry loop would be installed.

other than that, there are several passionate members on here and on the acanac community forums who don't work for acanac and that alone is a pretty good sign as well. so far i've had *very* quick responses to my questions and that gives me confidence.

    Re: thanks

Hey iblastoff! Thanks for your response.

I'm glad that your experience has been a positive one so far and hope that it continues to be as such

I fully understand what you mean about Acanac not being the kind of company to really keep you posted on things specific to your account (like installation, activation of your account, etc.), and while this is no excuse for them, they make up for such conveniences with customer dedication and services. Definitely something for them to improve on. Keep in mind as well that, unless you contact them and tell them otherwise, they will automatically renew your subscription after one year (which some people see as a convenience and others see as an annoyance, despite the fact that it's in their TOS lol). They have gotten a lot better (thanks to customer feedback) on notifying customers (through their forums) about maintenance, scheduled downtime, etc.

I couldn't agree more about the passionate members and community forums... one of the reasons I'll be a long-term customer

    My Other Reviews·Cogeco Cable
    ·Mountain Cable
this is to start a complete new experience with Acanac, as I have decided to sign up for high speed internet based on:

    1. Sales Reps were nice, informative and friendly.
    2. I have ordered a VOIP phone line and the order was smooth, however they told me they will call today and never did, but I don't care if they missed one day.
    3. Even when I was too busy for a phone call, I used to post online tickets and they were addressed in a timely fashion.

I am with Cogeco now, and I watch TV through internet, and I'm paying around 30$ extra only for the overage bandwidth which worth having acanac service that cost less than this overage!! knowing that internet TV cost me 26$ only!!

I will keep Cogeco even if I have Acanac, just in case Acanac service won't be able to handle my internet TV and it's quality, but if I everything is ok with Acanac I'll definitely cancel Congeco if I'll be happy with Acanac.

Stay tuned for more details when I sign up.

I did consider tecksavvy for dsl company but after having to many problem when i was with them before i decide to go with Acanac.

I have the 5mbps down and 800 kbps dsl internet.

I order their service on the internet, recieve the modem 2 days after the order and got activate 30 days after the order because of some problem on Bell ends.

They send me the aztech modem by fedex, all i had to do is plug it into my computer.

you probably saw me a lot here and on other dslr forum cause i love to help people and give my honest opinion on other post without sounding harsh or irrespectful. Now back at my topic

I've been with Acanac for the last 6 month except for some downtime that any other dsl company would have or had the past six month, i'm glad to say i'm very satistfied with the service, i didn't had any problem with it except of course problem from Bell side like anyone else in Acanac had(not showing up, putting people on the wrong profil, etc) I would recommand it to anyone who ask for a dsl company. I particuliarly love the fact that they have their own forum(community forum) where anyone new and futur customer can come and expose their problem. There's always someone there ready to help even if some of the customer there are complaining but we always make sure that their problem was taking care of and i'm glad to say that most of them were resolve in no time.

So, please before you do complain, you should always exposed your problem to see if anyone can help you with it. WE often see people come here and complain after only one week without exposing their problem first to see if anyone can help them resolve it.

So to anyone who are considering to get acanac service don't hesitate to ask question here or on the community forum, we will be more than happy to answer them and to help if you have any problem with the service or your order.

    Have a nice day

    UPDATE

It's been almost a year now(august 8 ) still very please with the service, no problem except for the throttling on Bell part but theirs always a way to bypass that with the tunnelier, but don't forget that dsl is all about distance and wiring condition. So if your are not too far from the CO you should consider Acanac for the internet(can'T say for the VOIP since i don't have it)

    UPDATE

now i'm back for another year (monthly paiement 39.95) amazing service juste recieve a call from someone at the billing departement to make sure i did recieve the invoice so next update in 6 month

It's been 20 days now that we are supposed to be connected, but still no dsl light... Acanac is saying that it is a mapping problem with Bell and Bell is saying that the connection is there and that we should call Acanac for support... How do we know if we are too far from the CO and who should I turn to? I feel like beeing in a tennis game...I am the ball and Acanac and Bell are the tennis players...

I'm an Acanac client for 14 months now and I'm still highly pleased with their services.

They offer a free SSH tunnel which enables you to beat the Bell's throttle, 100GB storage which can be accessed from anywhere in the world, a choice of free static or dynamic IP (both with no port blocking) and much more.

Also, they are currently connected to Tiscali backbone which decreases your online games latency dramatically and, at the same time, they are great for intensive downloading.

A bad point is that they are using Bell Canada copper lines which have few DSLAMs outside urban areas and as DSL is distance dependent technology, the speed could be reduced a little outside the cities. I'm not going to reduce their score, since with every DSL ISP, it's still going to be the same.

In conclusion, I think that this is an excellent internet service provider for anything. They really offer their customers the best service in Quebec and Ontario, at the lowest price.
