I'd like to comment on Cbeyond's service and their dedicated people
We have their VIOP with 16+ Cisco phones, router and switches
They did a great job with managing the install and support
Whenever we've had a problem it was solved within a few hours and the tech staff was friendly and helpful

Overall I have been very happy with CBeyond. Dealing with them is like dealing with my other suppliers. You get to know the inidividuals, and you feel like you have a relationship. You're not just another number in the system of a giant phone company. Sound quality has been excellent, and the T1 has been very reliable. The only issue we've had is tech support for international travel with our Blackberries.

Let me first start off by saying that I am a partner in a National law firm and I am the communications "decision maker" as reps have put it.
I am not an easy sale by any means. I researched the company before agreeing to meet with Cbeyond, but I also realize that people only post a report if they've had negative experiences, not positive.
I have been a Cbeyond customer since 2001 in my Atlanta location, and hopefully all 10 of my Nationwide locations will be on the service, depending on when Cbeyond announces their openings.
I have had nothing but a positive experience with Cbeyond. The sales reps are stimulating the economy by actually working - all have a college education and hold high hopes for their futures, with or without Cbeyond. I can respect that these college-educated young professionals started in Sales, in the 70's, i did too.
The service I hold with Cbeyond is fantastic, they do everything for us. And rest assured, when new products have been developed, they call me to let me know so that I can take advantage of them - which I really enjoy.
I write this review not only to praise these thankless sales reps, but to encourage companies to look into them - they are on the NASDAQ (CBEY), they are in Forbes magazine as the #6 fastest growing technology company (ahead of Apple!), and they are DEBT FREE. In these hard times, would you feel reassured that your communications company will not be disappearing off the face of the earth? I did.
Yes, the sales reps cold call, take 10 minutes out of your daily grind to listen to them, answer their questions - they are the future of our country, and they can probably help bring you out of the ice ages!

This past Friday 2 salesmen from CBeyond walked into our office at the end of the day, no one was at the front desk since almost everyone had gone home and only 2-3 people remained in the building. They roamed around the offices until they found me and another worker and proceeded to go into a rapid fire sales pitch, it took a lot of work to get them to stop so that we could tell them that we were going home and that they needed to come back, they did manage to get us to agree to an appointment the following week; we were already thinking about a T1 line and other changes. One of the salesmen showed up at the meeting, proceeded to ask if the 2 people in the room could make a decision on the stop and pressed that point multiple times before we could move on, the sales pitch revolved around money with the salesperson not being able to provide any answer to technical questions.
In the end we decided not to go with CBeyond, our feeling is that if the sales experience is not good, more often than not things go downhill once the contract is signed.
I realize that this post is not about experience with the service, but I find that the other post here with a similar experience can help people trying to evaluate a company before getting themselves into a contract.

Cbeyond has made a tremendous impact on the success of my company. All the features they provide in the package have benefited me immensely. I can't tell you how pleased I am with the bandwidth I'm receiving and the backup they offer. This solution is exactly what I was in search for when I met with them. They gave me a cost-efficient price along with an extraordinary service. Additionally, the installation process was smooth and seamless and I haven't had any issues. Not to mention, they have a great referral program with good compensation. I have referred them to a couple of my business partners and I would absolutely continue to refer them any day.

Email issues looked to be resolved for the most part. We seem to have problems from time to time, which get fixed sooner or later. For example, for some unknown reasons, this ISP deleted all the SPAM filters on 25 email accounts. That can really upset the apple cart!
The control panel for web hosting is incredibly slow with a unfriendly user interface. Frankly, I just hate that control panel.
For comparison, we never have similar problems with our AT&T email counts or with their web hosting control panel.

I received a visit from CBeyond on December 4, 2008. You are right about their sales force. Very young and inexperienced. On last Thursday I had a young man who had just finished college less than a year ago. He was just 22. After he went through his sales pitch and gathered all the information he needed, I asked him to prepare me a proposal in writing and we setup a follow-up meeting for this past Tuesday, December 9. On Monday another young man called and said he was following up on the appointment. He said the other young man had found another job more in his field. I took it that he just meant Cbeyond had very heavy turnover. The first young man told me he had been with the company just six months and he was probably exaggerating.
I'm glad you saved me from making a huge mistake. They were both very aggressive about the sale. Both even asked if they showed me how they could save me money would I sign the contract that day. They also wanted to know if everyone who would have input into the decision would be available right away to sign. I simply told both of them that I would never sign a contract the same day for a major decision like that. From your comments, I can only imagine the push back I will get when I tell them "no thanks".
Thanks again for saving me the frustration many of you experienced!!

We've been with Cbeyond for 2 1/2 years and have had problems from the start. I am beyond frustrated and angry with them at this point. I have read on other sites about their sales tactics, and I have to agree. They get young, pretty girls/guys to go out and push, push, push until they get the sale. A friend commented to me that at his last employer, a sales rep from Cbeyond was constantly coming into their office wanting their business; he would just laugh every time they came in b/c it was ridiculous how often they tried. I have regretted switching to Cbeyond pretty much the week after we got their service. I learned early on that 99% of their tech support staff have no clue what they are doing; pray you get someone who does! They recently renamed their customer service department to customer assurance, and I can assure you that they had to do it because they do not offer service! Our latest problem has been with call forwarding. We were hit by a hurricane and had no power for weeks. I relied on them to properly forward our phones but realized within a couple of days that even this was beyond their level. Recently a sales rep visited us to see how our service was and so I told her. Yes, a young good looking lady, of course! She had someone from their customer assurance department call me only to make me even more angry. Way to go! So, if you are looking for a phone service go with anyone but Cbeyond. We have been in business for over 50 years and have never had so many problems with a phone company!
I would also like to add their their email program is outdated. I hate using their email because it is so limited. I use it for very basic emails work-related only. If I have to add any attachments or do something more complex than typing a few words, I use an alternate work email address. Also, it is very annoying that their program times out in 30 minutes. I am often multi-tasking so I leave an email to do something else only to come back and have been timed out and lost everything I had typed.

No complaints other than it's difficult to get a customer service rep. who is able to get past the whole "one size fits all" structure. Full T-1, 6 phone lines, toll free number included, 2GB online storage, fax to e-mail number, caller ID and 1500 minutes of long distance are all $495.00 a month with a 3 year contract. Fully Cisco based infrastructure and a Cisco 2400 Series IAD are included. Professional installation was free (customer has to provide a technician for hooking existing phones and computers to the new service.)
I've heard lots of bad things about this company over the past few years, but when you get down to why these people were dissatisfied it's usually a small business who already had 2 or 3 lines and didn't need a full T-1. Their sales people do go door to door and are aggressive. Make sure you know what you are getting! A T-1 has much slower download speeds than business class DSL or cable! Good choice if you host any type of servers.

Cbeyond has had chronic problems since the beginning of this year (08) with providing reliable email hosting. Email would never be received by our clients; we wouldn't receive some of their responses. It was very sporadic as well, so it was difficult to pin down the problem. Turns out that it was Cbeyond having 'difficulties with a large amount of spam' (like what internet provider doesn't have a large amount of spam?) The main Atlanta mail server for Cbeyond was even blacklisted by a Spam-cop service for about a day. Needless to say, none of our email was received that day...
They have no 'server status' page which customers can log into to see if there are issues... When there is a problem, they will sometimes take the technical support phone number off line and will not take calls. If the cure wasn't as bad or worse than the disease (changing our entire phone setup and internet addresses, etc.), we would have switched LONG ago. I suspect that's how they keep so many customers - switching is even more work than staying.
Also - I think they farm out their sales calls to another company - we have been cold called numerous times by people supposedly in the employ of Cbeyond, trying to sell their service (walking by the large 'NO SOLICITORS' sign). They seem surprised by the fact that we already are customers. They just want your business card; I guess they are paid by the amount of cards they get or something. A call to Cbeyond to complain and we got the response that they can't control their sales force...
If you are looking for business telephone/internet providers in the Atlanta area, stay far away from CBeyond!
