I was a little suspicious when I moved to this residential area, all my friend told me DSL had a much better bandwidth. But at 12MB/s when DSL can barely reach 6MB/s in the area, I had to give it a try. Coming from Comcast, I had high level expectations in terms of service and connection speed. Well I have to admit that I've been very happy so far: Customer service was competent, they knew exactly what I wanted. The guy who come for the installation had to set a new line from the electric poll in the backyard into the kitchen. He easily spent 60 minutes doing so. In terms of speed, it's really fast... no complains really, online tests show 11mb/s. As far as reliability I can speak yet, I only had service for a week.
Really the only downside is the price, it's a little pricier than DSL: but wait... you want to give them a call. The lady on the phone gave me a special 12mb/s for the price of 6, during 12 months.
That's worth getting hooked right ?

22 March 2006 This past Saturday VoIP was installed by Atlantic Broadband along with an upgrade to Digital Cable for the television. Internet is still 3/320. All services are consistently of high quality. The modem for VoIP and internet is Motorola SBV5220 Surfboard. Great diagnostics page.

21 February 2007 Nothing new to report. Had a couple of outages but they were weather related. Customer service is fast, patient and usually knowledgeable. I'm still a satisfied user of Atlantic Broadband.
30 August 2007 This service, internet~digital cable~VoIP, is just plain stable. It's a set and forget item. Absolutely nothing negative to report.

28 February 2009 This past week, I'm thinking Tuesday or Wednesday, was the first time I encountered any real problems with service.. Early in the morning the cable, internet and VoIP went down. The outage covered Central PA and parts of Maryland.
The cable and VoIP came back on very fast but no internet connection could be made. I tried every trick in the book trying to reestablish it to no avail. Finally called a tech friend and explained the problem. Simple solution was a pin hole reset button on the back of the Motorola SBV5220 Surfboard. Fixed.
I don't know if ABB should have/could have sent a reset signal to the network or not. Would have saved me and probably a multitude of others a major source of frustration. O'well, at least I have learned another avenue of solving a problem from this experience. Good can come out of bad.
7 October 2009 Nothing new to report. We simply have a very stable system here which I am very satisfied with. When I do have an issue of any kind Customer Service is swift in resolving it. Kudos to Atlantic Broadband in Central PA.

@atlanticbb.net | Blows Atlantic Broadband has service outages here at least once a week. Sometimes for minutes, sometimes for hours. They traffic shape P2P or flat out block it. KAD is blocked. Typical "We dont want you to run a server" ports are blocked (21, 80, etc). | |

@atlanticbb.net | Broadband Atlantic Can't stand this company! Their customer service is a joke. They miss appoinments, don't call back, leave you on hold for a long time. It takes lots of calls to get anything done and it is always frustrating. If you can get other service -- do it! | |

| Terrible Atlantic BB "High speed" service Horrendous service. Long waits on hold. Tech support, cutomer "service," and the tech guy who makes the service call always have a different explanation for what's wrong. This past month my 3meg "high speed" connection ($34.95 a month) has been running at average 174Kbs (have tested on a 3 month old mac and 4 week old Lenovo laptop). Explanation? Construction in the area. Rain. Lightening. Power spikes. Too many people watching television. My computer. Software. Etc etc. Today the tech refused to come upstairs to my apt (after I waited all morning) saying that construction in the area was to blame and that he couldn't help. I called tech support later in the day and they said it was the modem. (The HDTV is often out, especially at night). So I'll have to wait at home ANOTHER day while they dispatch a tech guy. Customer service suggested I switch to AT&T and refused to refund the last month's charges (I did get 2 weeks back after waiting for supervisor). Second suggestion? That I move to Miami (Comcast) if I don't like Atlantic BB service.
I work in Latin America about a week each month and the broadband there is MUCH faster, especially in Mexico City (Telmex). Why why why do we get this third world service here in Miami Beach? | |

| Hate Atlantic BB
I hate this company for their monopoly in Miami Beach without providing good speeds for my money! I'm paying $54 monthly for their service-only internet! why they charge more than comcast? i can't understand why upload speed so low 200-400 kds/s is a joke! I wanna be with other company, do I really have to move out of my building!! ABB suck! | |

09/29/09: Wow almost a year since my last update: well speed has become more stable, I still get some drops on speed but they are usually are within 90 - 80% of the advertised speed. The actual speed I get is about 7.53 Mbps. There is no more issue with P2P throttling, in fact they stopped blocking some sites.
Sometimes the modem will disconnect randomly, it happens about once every two weeks, I guess it is some kind of resync. They have been incrementing their pricing slowly but steadily without any notice.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------
Well, now going with HSI.... ABB's supplied modem is a Motorola SBV5222 which has USB, Ethernet and Phone connections (VOIP service). The service often goes below the expected service (as low as 6 Mbps, but it could go lower like 4 Mbps), however, is not that much of a problem.
Service is part of a promotion that ABB has going right now, from call to install, it took them about 3 days.
I had some issues with the modem and the router we were using since for some reason it was unable to share the internet connection, and when it shared it, it was extremely slow (up to 1.5 Mbps), I mentioned this to the ABB tech but they couldn't help, I wasn't expecting the help anyways since their support limits to the PC connection itself. Aside that, service has been very good.
Update 09/21/08: well my weird issue with the router was solved thanks to the help of someone in the BBR forums (hint: MAC cloning). Speed has improved substantially since then, usually keeping over 6.4 to 7.3 Mbps. Uploads are usually 480 - 492 Kbps. Now I'm able to get full internet and be protected with the router (even though the SBV5222 works as a modem, it seems to me that it currently works on IP Pass through mode since my router is able to detect my external IP directly and the IP is not a private address kind (192.168.x.x) as it used to happen when it was connected directly to the PC).
Update 10/25/08: I have found some random latency variations. By default, the latency is about 50-60 mS. Some nights after 10 pm EST, it go up about 160+ mS with the drop on speed about 3-4 Mbps. I haven't called ABB about it but if it gets worse they will hear from me.
Update 11/25/08: The speed problem hit me again... my speed dropped to 350 kbps with a latency of over 700 mS. Fortunately it happened after 8 pm EST and it was over by the next day, I still think they must be doing some kind of upgrade to the network. Unfortunately, I still do not see any benefit or receive any notification at all before this happens.
About The P2P issue: so far I have not experienced this drop. The speed drop happens but so far, it happens even if I'm not using any kind of P2P application (plain HTTP traffic). I still think it is some kind of maintenance/upgrade that ABB doesn't bother to tell their customers.
Uh... well several P2P forums confirm the P2P throttling so then yes, it may be happening.

My building has a deal where Atlantic Broadband gives a discount on the bill plus free HBO if you sign up with them, so when we moved in we chose them outright. Other ISP options included Comcast, Verizon DSL and BellSouth. We've had BellSouth, and they were pretty good. But we have no use for a landline. Comcast is way too shady; they have no trust or integrity. So we chose Atlantic BB.
Their customer service is great! Every time I call, my wait is very short, and the person I speak with is very knowledgeable. Whenever there's an outage and I call to inform them, they always have a recorded message stating that they're aware of the issue and have techs onsite attempting to resolve it. They're always on top of things. As for initial setup, I called a week before I moved in and they were there the day I moved in to get me activated. The movers were still moving boxes as the tech was leaving!
As for price, they're very competitive when compared to the likes of Comcast who are usually overpriced. For internet alone, I pay $48.95 for 12 Mbps/768Kbps down and up. I have a Motorola modem; the first unit they gave me died, so they replaced it with a new one same day, though I did have to go to their offices to swap it out myself. That's standard practice in this business, though, as I had to do the same with Time Warner when I lived in NYC.
The only bad experiences I've had with Atlantic BB was with their DVR boxes dying on me a few times for the cable service. It's clear that they recycle old units, again, as do most other providers. The modem died once in my three years with them.
As for good experiences, the fact that I only have to call them about once a year is a testament to their service and reliability for internet service. Smart, friendly techs, low prices, no contract and high reliability. What else could you ask for?

| you work for the company.. Their CSR is so great that they are closing their offices in North Bay Village and transferring all calls to the Altoona office. The only reason they have people here in FL is because spanish speaking CSR agents are rare in their area in PA. Internet traffic is shapped, so as long as you only check your email and read CNN, it's great. If you update your games(WOW, city of heroes, etc), stream p2p your screwed.. go with another service. | |

I called to order their 5mb internet service and was told it would be installed next business day I called on Saturday and it was installed early Monday morning. Everything was installed correctly without shortcuts and they were done and I was online in less than an hour. I'm very pleased with the customer service and how quickly my service was up and running.

I've had DSL from AT&T for many years now. I want to get rid of my home phone and use only my cellphone so I signed-up for Atlantic Broadband HSI. My first call to them was eight days ago. I called on every single day after that. I could never reach a human. Nobody that I left voicemail for returned my calls. I finally got mad today and that seems to have gotten me through to an actual human. Once that happened things went very smoothly.
From the time I spoke with someone until I was up and running was just a few hours; the time it took to place the order, pick up the modem; an excellent Motorola SURFboard, get some cable, and switch the connection from my DSL to cable. This doesn't make up for the previous poor customer service. But it was worthy of note.
Installation was very easy. I had no problems at all doing it myself. The connection worked on the first try. My connection speeds for the same promised numbers (8mbps/768kbps) as my DSL were noticeably faster. In otherwords, I could see pages rendering much faster. Uploads speeds were also much faster.
I'll update my review again in a week when I have something more substantial to comment on with regard to the actual connection reliability.
Again, so far customer service goes they may as well not have any. It was awful. I practically had to beg them to let me become a customer. If I had another option I would have taken it. However I'm in a condo association with bulk cable so my options are DSL or ABB cable.

If they delivered the service that they promise is going to be the best ISP for South Pointe area in South Beach , With our super old wiring DSL speeds are very very low. About 60% of what they suppose to be. In other hand in the past Atlantic had a very bad reputation. So far what i see is good. I am paying for 12Mbit i get around 8-9Mbits but when i spoke with tech support they said that anyway the service is not official out yet , so its have to be better after few days and ill get my full speed. I have time , ill let you know guys after 10 days does they keep their promise.
Best regards.
P.S. Ok thats like a few months later. I think the service is great , no cons so far , except one that the upload is slow 786kbs. Anyway the price go down , since atlantic offer me to get a phone line combined with my 12mbit service the price instead 67$ go don to 50$. Thats a red point for Atlantic. offering more services same quality for lower price.
Good Job ATLANTIC!
P.S. I am extremely disappointing now from Atlantic BB they start to throttling connection when you using any kind of p2p connection , doesn't matter if its torrents or you are watching p2p TV.

UPDATE... December 21, 2007 No issues since the install, constant speeds(570kB down/ 58kB up). Can use Usenet at full speeds by using SSL.. Nothing else to report, everything Just works...
Ordered on Fri June 8th, Installed Tues June 12th, installer actually arrived 45 minutes ahead of schedule, but he called before he arrived to make sure i was home. Once he got here, we went over the order witch was just for the Internet service and not for tv since i have Dish Network Tv and love it. After running a brand new Line to the room the computer is in, he hooked up the modem and every thing seemed fine, he left and all was fine for about a hour until the modem lost sync and when it synced back up my speeds were horrible and pings were outrageously high. So i called tech support and they sent the installer back to my house and he found out that my power levels in the modem were way to high and after a few adjustments, everything is perfect..
