So far I'm totally satisfied with FIOS triple play and saving money too boot, at least for 2 years.. The speeds are great and HD nice and crisp, no rebooting my router and TV box once a week like with Time Warner..

| Price? Where you already a Verizon customer?Depending on what TV package you got that price seems a bit steep. I know if you were just getting started with them they offer a great triple play package down here in the Bronx. I was able to get 50/25 internet,Phone, and Prime TV package(which is all I need) for $ 82 @ month and a $200 debit card.Contract os for 2 years. | |

Update 06/12/2013
Like the energizer, just keeps going. Best service available, period!
Isn't the cheapest, I also don't drive a Yugo, very good value for the cost.
Currently have 75/35 Quantum, best internet one can get.
Update 11/30/2011
Pretty boring, no issues, have the new image 1.9 and it works fine, when I renewed I went to Fios Digital Voice, it only saves 3.50 but one gets a tone of features most VOIP providers have.
Phone, TV, internet all work great ... what else could one expect from a provider? oh I know there is a forum full of never to be happy people that will knit pick things to death, for everyone else, Fios is a great service
Update 12/4/2009
Nothing New, Flawless still, very happy customer. Waiting for FDV ( Fios Digital Voice ) to roll out for Florida and Quad Play discounts that the Northeast gets, but this will just be icing on the cake.
Update 8/29/2009
Flawless performance since last update. Verizon has come thru on all promotions, The VISA card came right on time and billing is correct even though I upgraded to the 25/15 tier for a 10 dollar increase over the 20/5 tier. Everything is working great, no issues or concerns
Update 5/27/2009
Well I signed up for Video, It was really hard call to leave DTV and pay the penalty for breaking my 2 year contract, I read daily the Fios TV forum and if you go by what is posted there its a scary thought to make the move.
The tech showed up on time, he let me do everything how I wanted as I am on Ethernet, he gave me a new westel router and I configured it to be behind the dlink 655 I use for the primary router. Total install for Video change over ( one DVR ) was about 30 minutes.
Had and issue with VOD and premium channels, Verizon keep escalating internally and each time Verizon called me with the status, at the end of the day it was fixed and we are very happy with the service. The DVR disk is small but with the VOD its almost pointless to record stuff as most content is available using VOD.
Only wish is that the guide was HD width, hear that is coming latter this year. Overall, we are happy with the switch and discounts and signup bonus will cover the DTV ETF fees
Update 3/8/2009
Things have been smooth, I signed up for the double play, billing finally got the some of the credits promised and service has been solid. I watch the FIOS TV forum as see there is progress there but for now I'm staying with just phone/internet. I have increased my rating on connection reliability as the service has had no interruptions in almost 3 months.
I'm using a DIR655 for the router now, mostly for 1G lan networking, nice to be on Enet as I can switch routers as I choose.
Update 12/15/2008
Well, all the promised credits never appeared, worse the contacts at Tampa office have all be reorganized and the people that promised the credits are no longer in charge. I have tried for 3 weeks to get things resolved, I did manage to get a partial credit but it no longer makes sense to have 20/20 as except for large torrents, no place on the net , including online backup services do not support 20mb upload speeds
I have gone back to the 20/5 and phone bundle.
Also, last two days , service has gone out twice and down for 5-6 hours ( internet and phone ) and had to call 6 times to get things resolved ( 3 hours on cell phone ), the first level techs are pleasant, but literally can't do anything, including putting in trouble tickets or even getting a network tech involved without a managers approval.
The problems were all CO related as my neighbors were also out.
The 3 year wait for FIOS is now the reality a fast local internet to a slow national INTERNET, billing which has three different departments, which one of ALWAYS turn down credits over 50 bucks
When a customer of Brighthouse I always got billing resolved with one call, when they go DOCIS 3.0 I'll look into dumping FIOS, Verizon is totally out of control on the support and billing and now with two outages, I'll never get the TV service, as at least I still have TV with DTV when FIOS was down on Sunday
Update 11/15/2008
Service has been flawless. Thanks to Karl, I am on the 20/20 service now, I'm not in a bundle but due to the BBR and Karl, I'm getting credits so in effect I am getting a bundle discount.
Still using my own WRT54G and again the installation tech was great, my neighbor now has FIOS and did a similar install
One things I notice is the speed tests are useless for testing upload. I have no issue getting my rated speed using torrents and using Verizon speed test. but the fact is the Net is NOT wired for 20mbs upload from residential accounts.
Verizon has been easy to work with, again thanks to Karl, I have the local contacts and they have been fantastic in two minor billing issues ( getting charged for activation but came from DSL ) and the package change.
I'll keep milking the DTV thing until I won't get dinged canceling, currently I just call up to cancel and they keep giving me credits to stay and free movies, probably next year when the FIOS video issues are all address, I'll go triple or even quad play when Verizon finishes on buying Alltel, my current cell provider
Original Post:
Well today I got FIOS, 20/5 package and The Freedom Phone Package. I decided to wait on the triple play as I have monitored the BBR FIOS forums since day one and the Video issues still have problems ( mostly DVR issues ). I'm also under DTV contract and am happy with the service so I'll wait it out and then NOT have to give DTV 400 bucks to switch
The Tech was great!, On time, professional and installed exactly where I wanted it and we used my WRT54G as the router, never even took the Actiontech out the box. No issues, worked first try, my 3 year wait is over and couldn't be more pleased!

Update 6/10/2013: Just found out about some of the Verizon "value added" features that go along with their Fios service.

FREE 24/7 customer phone support, even if it is outside normal business hours and they're not supposed to be there, you can talk to a live person. They might not talk back, but they're ALWAYS listening!! FREE Web Site filtering. Not that they stop anything with it, but it carefully filters through records of everything you do online. If you dont value the US constitution or the bill of rights, or believe its an outdated document that is no longer relevant in todays society. If you have absolutely no regard whatsoever for your own privacy and security, or that of your friends and family. FYI Current Services: FiOS DV, HD Ultimate TV, Quantum 150/65 Internet 3x MOTO 7232 DVR + 3x 1Tb external storage. 3x MOTO DCT700, they're practically useless now, but still free since digital conversion.
Ordered 15/2, I get 15.5 / 1.8 pretty reliably. Still waiting for 20/5 upgrade promised by end of 2005. Internet installed 9/2005, 2 weeks after order placed. Subcontractor burying conduit made my front yard look like a "Monster Truck Mud Bog Shootout Event!" They took down a section of the fence in my side yard to get the Ditch Witch through, and still have not fixed it
By all means, If you want FiOS with any degree of reliability, insist they they leave your copper connection intact. Don't let them switch their voice service over to fiber.
If your Copper phone connection has not been any problem, follow the old adage, if it ain't broke, don't F' with it.
I have been through 4 FiOS ONT's in 7 months.
Believe me, you really want to keep that Verizon copper phone line, the FioS phone reliability completely sucks.
Once they switch you, they are required by PA law to restore the copper if you request it, but they will fight you tooth an nail to make it ever happen.
But I am keeping my Excellent Fios Internet Service, and problematic, but better than Comcast, Fios TV service. For now..
It's still the best bang for the buck for Internet, and needs some help for Picture Quality for TV, but is still the best deal in town.
FIOS Internet, If it's available to you, Just Do It!!!!
OK, My original Fios Phone+Internet Install was on 9/30/2005. Now moving into FiOS year 3.
This marks my 2 year Anniversary review of having Verizon FiOS service.
From 9/30/2005, my original install date, moving everything on fiber was great, Phone and Internet, until they installed the TV service on 12/08/2006.
Verizon's reps outright lied repeatedly about their 20/5 upgrade coming to me in 10/2005, I am still stuck at 15/2 to this day.
The nightmare began 2 months later, in February 2007, when I completely lost all Fios service.
It took Verizon over a month to restore me to where everything had been before, but I also was forced to loose any prior service credit, and grandfathered pricing in the process.
Since then, the TV service has been an abysmal mess, and the Phone and Internet has greatly suffered from outages during that time period.
Would I recommend Fios to anyone else???
Phone= Ask them to keep the copper first, proceed with fiber optic phone service with caution. Fios phone reliability depends on a battery backup, dead battery=NO phone service. Internet=Definitely TV=PROBABLY NEVER AGAIN. Verizon needs to call Comcast and ask them how to be a REAL cable TV provider. (Less the regular price increases though)
UPDATE- 11/2/2007- They installed the 5th ONT today since this past February, and confirmed that there was a bad tap at the street.
That in an underground service vault, which fills with muddy water when it rains heavily.
Might be an answer to much of the service problems I have been having.
I had a 3+ hour outage last night of all Fios services, and that might be the cause.
A Verizon Line crew is supposed to check/replace it next week. After 9 months of aggravation, it may end up being their Fiber equipment supplier, Corning, that is the root of all the problems I have had....
It makes perfect sense, the same company that made the plate you ate your dinner off tonight, also makes most of the plant equipment for Verizon's FiOS network.
Corning needs to stick with dinnerware, and leave the fiber optic business to another company.
WOW, FiOS has finally become stable here, this on the evening before the new IMG software rollout.
Their billing department still has my account screwed up, I have 2 Wireless lines with Verizon now added to the same bill, a practical Triple-Play if you will, but they are now double billing me on the wireless end.
Thank god I have my 4 most important wireless lines still with T-Mobile.
They still have not provided the 20/5 option that I was promised when I had FiOS installed back in September 2005, so I still rate their pre-sales information as a complete lie.
Tech support has stabilized, but I still have a semi-regular picture tiling on various FiOS TV channels, so i can't rate them any higher than middle of the road .
The $325/mo cost is for all 4 Verizon services, about $80 is for Verizon Wireless.
My only reason for even considering Verizon for Wireless service is tied to the ON-STAR phone built into my car, that only works with Verizon....
I will follow up this review as conditions warrant.....
*******Review Updated 8/1/2008********
Promised Fios TV HD Channel additions by Spring 2008 have still not happened although it is more than half way through Summer 2008.
Analog Channels have been removed from the TV Lineup, so the Fios TV is now "100% Digital"
Some HD-VOD is available, but the selections are not on par with other providers.
Still experiencing occasional TV picture Tiling and Pixelation.
DVR Firmware Updates still cause occasional freeze-ups and missed recordings.
These problems have been going on for over a year now, I think any expected permanent fix is now a hopeless cause.
Their Telephone Tech Support reps are in need of some serious re-training, and they need to be able to work together with their billing department, something that is seriously flawed with all things Verizon.
Nothing but billing errors almost every month with FiOS TV, but at least I have yet to run across the dreaded problem of being charged for the "supposedly free" Digital TV Adapters.
Phone Bill reached more than $95, so I canceled both Verizon landline phones and took 1 to T-Mobile@Home VoIP(over FiOS Internet) and the other wireless.
Upgraded Fios internet to 20/20 connection speed, but it took 3 weeks to get the upgrade processed, they said it would take less than a few hours, but nothing Verizon says actually happens the way they describe that it will.
Internet speeds are currently around 20.8/ 18, which is fair enough for now, since I don't really need the 20(18) Mbps upload speed, I will likely drop that back to 20/5 to save a few bucks.
The Fios Internet service is the only thing I can seriously praise Verizon for, I really can't remember when they last had a service outage, probably back during one of my earlier review updates over a year ago.
Verizon could stand to Exit the Telephone and TV business and just stick with Internet service.
They could provide IPTV and VoIP over the Internet connection and dump everything else, and that would cure 99% of their tech support and billing issues, but I don't see that ever happening.
$135 for TV(That includes 3 DVR's, 1HD, and 1 SD Box, The Movies&Sports package, and HBO).
$0 for Telephone, because I completely canceled it, and went VoIP.
So, about $155/mo
I will update this when (or if) Verizon ever meets their Promise of 100 HD Channels by 2008 Year end.
Update 8/29/2010: Well, at least Fios is now generally stable.
Internet is now running roughly 35/28, although I only have the 25/25 service plan.
The Internet speed is universally better than cable, or other sources, it's the best connection in town you could ever find.
Fios TV still has occasional picture and audio dropouts, which seem to be more of the fault of their existent 6426-2 DVR's.
I have had numerous Fios techs at my home in the past, telling me that the problems were caused my TV brand, but it took a Verizon manager to agree first hand that the problems were beyond my home.
The problem was never properly fixed, and I am convinced that Verizon has no desire to care for it's customers.
Verizon never replaced the defective tap across my street, that I am connected to, so heavy rain still fouls up my TV service when I get enough rain to fill the underground vault that the tap is contained in.
More to come, this update will always be a work in progress......
2/29/2012:
Verizon DESTROYED my CREDIT REPORT, WITH A NON-PAYMENT OF ALMOST $500, which I DIDN'T OWE, AND THEY DON'T CARE.
They credited my account back for disputed charges, but still ,consider it delinquent, even though I HAVE NEVER MISSED A PAYMENT.
Their service is very stable, 7 years in, but their customer service is still terrible to the extreme.
VZ Quadruple-Play is a joke, they don't care 1¢ about their customers, I took my cell service back to T-Mobile, who actually provides cell service where I live..
If you actually care about your credit rating, whatever you do, Don't touch them with a 100 Billion-foot Pole.

| Re: Your Not a FIOS customer Maybe you should go back and read the earlier parts of my review.
I dumped the Quadruple-play part of the deal in 2011, so no more VZ wireless.
Yes, I still give a 30% (average) rating, because I have to call them every single month to correct the mistakes on my bill, their tech support is no help, and there is still the property damage done by the installers that I had to fix out of pocket.
Credit issue isn't any different, it's a dispute about un-returned equipment they claim I didn't pay them for. Problem was it wasn't returned, because it's still on my account, and still in-use.
I'm still with Fios because it works, and there really aren't any other options available.
Note that I have the Reliability rated at 100%, and the Value for the money is 50%. -- ROCK 'TIL SUNSET | |

Services: FIOS Double Play - 50mbps down / 10mbps up + Select HD Cable
Price: $45/month + $7/month set top box rental.
I initially only wanted internet. However, using Verizon's build-your-own-bundle tool, I found out getting internet + cable was cheaper than getting just internet by itself ($45/mo vs $70/mo before taxes and fees). Verizon also waived all setup/installation fees and threw in a $100 Visa gift card. There's a $7/mo set top box rental fee, but it's still cheaper than just getting Internet.
Installation was fairly straightforward. I scheduled the installation for 1pm - 5pm. The tech arrived at 1:30 and finshed at ~6:00. He initially had some trouble finding something related to the cable connection, but he was able to find it eventually. FIOS comes with a free wireless router, but I told the installation tech I wanted to use my personal router and he hooked it up to the modem for me.
My first bill was much higher than expected: $80 before taxes and fees. When I called customer service I had to provide proof that I was offered $45/mo for the services I was getting. As it turns out, I was being charge for 75mbps/35mbps, even though I ordered 50mbps/10mbps (because that was the fastest speed available to me when I ordered), and my bill even said 50mbps/10mbps. Once that was cleared up Verizon updated my bill.
Update: Apparently, that was bullshit. They claimed they would fix my bill, but they didn't. They also sent me another bill for the wrong amount. I spent 5 hours on the phone trying to get it fixed. Verizon gave me the run around. They told me to fax them the order confirmation with the price I was offered, but they gave me non-working fax numbers. I'm seriously considering going back to Comcast.
I had to make complaints to the BBB and the FCC and send an email directly to the CEO of Verizon before they took my complaint seriously.

This is the fastest I have had in my home. Everything loads great without a hitch. I had their 25/25 tier for 2 years and renewed to the 50/25 tier for free and another 2 year contract(including TV).
Can't complain I tested the connections and was getting well over 63mps/30mps. Great value considering other options and prices.

I first placed my order for Verizon FiOS on August 29, 2010 with an install date of August 31, 2010. I never received an email and on August 30, 2010 I placed a call to Verizon. The order had somehow vanished from the website and never went through! The order was placed again and the service was installed on Sept 2, 2010. It has only been about 6 days but I am excited that I have made the change. I use to have Cablevision's Optimum Online, and for the past year it has been a battle to either get stable speeds or a reliable connection. After not getting anything resolved it was time to jump ship and pay the extra 5 bucks a month for a more reliable internet service as well as a bit more upload speed. With Optimum Online I was on the 15/2 package, and sometimes I was lucky to even get 7/2. With Verizon FiOS I have a stable 15/5 package. I game a lot and stream Netflix etc, and have yet to notice a problem.
The install took about 2 hours, which is about average for a FiOS install. The tech was very nice and friendly. All in all the service has been great so far and I am hoping it will stay the same for many years to come!
Edit 6/25/12 : Back in May 2011, I subscribed to the TV and phone service as well. It was a rocky first few months as there seemed to be a problem with the Television service. Some channels would work fine on one box, while the same channel didn't work on another box. It took about 3 techs to finally fix the issue, which of course was a bad wiring job. My internet was boosted up to 25/25, which is actually 30/25 because you get an extra 5mbps because of the television service. I have a year left on my contract and really do not see myself switching services anytime soon. I switched over from Dish Network which got rid of every RSN in NY. It's nice to be able to watch MSG, SNY, YES, while also getting every game in HD. Dish was a joke.
6/9/13
I loved my FiOS service. No complaints except the price just got to high. I have switched to Cablevision. We may meet again in the future Verizon .

As you can see from my other reviews (AT&T, Metrocast), I recently lived in an area served by second-tier providers (SE CT) who really didn't invest in that area. I'd previously lived in VZ territory, but pre-FIOS, so had Cox HSI/phone/video.
Anyway, recently move back to VZ territory (Boston metro-west), and I am thrilled with the FIOS services. Signed up for a double-play (HSI/video), and am using a variety of VOIP for phone services (voip.ms, GV, Voipo, CC).
I have the 15/5 HSI, and routinely get 25 down, and consistently get 5 up. With a young family, this is sufficient for our needs, which includes the occasional Netflix and/or Amazon subscription.
Contrast the current service with my old ATT DSL, which was rated for 6 down and 1 up, and routinely I got only 1.5 down, and *never* exceeded the rated speed no matter the time of day.
The FIOS video clarity is amazing, and the channel lineup extensive. Contrast this with Metrocast, which picked up the leftovers of Eastern Connecticut cable at fire-sale prices and then used the plant with few, if any, improvements. Muddy SD picture and pixelated HD passed for service down there.
Uverse lawn fridges appeared in the area, but were never lit up.
I should also note that I now use a HDHR Prime with a single cablecard to send video to our devices. If you haven't tried one of these you should. Video is sent via DLNA to a couple of PS3s, a DNLA aware LG TV, a computer and a couple of tablets. Works great (and only costs me 4 bucks a month for the cablecard).
Would be happy with the FIOS service regardless, but moreso because of where I was immediately before. So happy that I might even pay the non-contract price once my contract is up (and I've never done that before). I'm saving $15/mo on the package, and $5/mo on VZ Connections. In CT I was paying $95 for cable alone!
