I chose Teksavvy for my home phone and internet needs mainly because of the excellent rapport they have built here in the DSLR community.

Submitted my order over the phone, and it sure is nice to start your call by talking to a human being that cares, instead of a machine that wants to know what language of voice mail maze you would prefer. The support reps I've talked to are very knowledgable, and actually have a sense of humor!

August 8th 2009: Received my Teksavvy PPPoE login via email, and it works great. Still have a lot of hurdles to get over, mainly the question of whether I will have any interruption of internet or telephone service as my official switchover date of August 18th approaches.

August 16th 2009: It was only because my PPPoE login for Bell and Teksavvy stopped working that I called TekSavvy and found out two days before my activiation date that Bell rejected my order to transfer services to Teksavvy, for "no apparent reason." Rep restored my PPPoE login immediately. I'm somewhat disappointed I wasn't contacted by Teksavvy as soon as the order was rejected. But, to their credit, Teksavvy jumped on this right away to try and make things right - on a Sunday, no less!

August 26th 2009: There were also issues with switching long distance and local phone to Teksavvy which took a while to sort out what ended up being quite a mess, but it was worth it to be rid of two other overpriced services I had before. Long distance to Germany is 3 cents a minute now!

September 4, 2009. I received my first invoice and there was one small error. One call to Teksavvy, they cancelled the invoice and sent me a new one via email the next day! The "other guys" would have never have issued a corrected invoice, and insist on full payment of the erroneous bill, even if I threatened to cancel. Thanks for realizing the customer is always right!

October 24, 2009: Been with Teksavvy for two full months now, and the service has been rock solid. I'm totally satisfied and contract free!

June 20th 2010: I'm moving. See comment above from August 16, 2009. The exact same thing happened AGAIN. Move order cancelled for no reason, PPPoE login suspended, I only found out about it when I called tech support to find out why my connection was lost... And I haven't even moved yet! I'm extremely disappointed having to deal with this again.

June 25th 2010: Move completed. Services up and running AOK. Long distance wasn't working but one call fixed that. Hold times for tech support are getting longer.

Click for full size

Jan 17 2012: Download speed upgraded to 625 kb/s. But I had to fight to get it.

Mar 15 2012: New monthly package including 75GB for $30 instead of 300GB for $35 (I've never gone over 40 GB so this is perfect for me). Thanks, Teksavvy!

Nov 9 2012: Still happy!

Apr 2013: Price dropped from $29.99 to $26.99! How many companies in this day and age DROP prices for customers?

A small update, since using TSI for a couple months now.

Very happy with the service, been just as reliable as Bell was. And the recent price drop is just icing!

Great service here!

-----------

signed up at the end January, once Bell jacked up all my prices due to my promo being over.

I called up TSI the same day, and spoke to a helpful service rep who signed me up.

Got an install date to coordinate with my disconnection date from Bell.

I started using the TSI login in February to not give Bell any ammo to keep billing me over my disconnection date!

There was a weird issue that no one could really explain. when using the TSI log-in when still signed up to Bell. It seemed all my downloads were throttled to a speed of 3MB of less (I signed up to the 15MB package) even though all speed tests showed my FULL speeds. No one could explain it really, as once I went back to using my Bell login, FULL SPEEDS! I was told to wait till I was fully transferred over before they could look and see. Which was reasonable as I wasn't fully transferred yet!

On Install day, I had 1 Tek show up, a bit late I might add. But I told him I was still online and already had POTS splitter. And he said he didn't need to do anything and left! My full transfer took to about 11:30 PM that night!

The issue after I got full installed a little over a week ago, seems to of resolved itself, so maybe Bell is throttling other logins or something!

Now a little on my TSI service, so far I've been pleased with the service, from my Bell connection my Sync rate seems to of stayed about to same to my Bell speeds, which is good!

EDIT: Looks like they finally lowered them to my 15MB plan, but i'm getting better upload speeds now!

The Ping rates on TSI seem to be about 5 - 10ms higher, its not too bad really!

Downloads are another story, it seems downloads on TSI seem to be hesitating a bit, I don't know another way to explain it. They start out slow, they slowly crawl up to close to what I'm supposed to be getting, This varies with servers as well, so it could always be a server issue, but I never experienced that on my Bell connection.

Streaming seems to be working well as well, the first Sunday I signed up I was streaming SuperHD Netflix on my PS3 smoothly on a Sunday night at 8PM!

This last Sunday, I was getting slower speeds and some packet loss though. Hopefully its not a standard problem on Sunday nights!

All in all, I am Happy SO FAR with my switch to TekSavvy!

I will update this review if that changes though

And a Shout out to TSI Jonathan for being extremely helpful in keeping me updated and answering questions!

I paid TSI to have their support forget the customer they're serving and to leave work, so there would be no follow up from other supports. If I try to find a trustworthy support from another support channel, I get requested to stay with one. I'm sure, any customer who had lost their trust with TSI support service would choose one or more support channels. How would I know if another support would forget their customer again?

Phone: Initial wait time 20 minutes+
E-mail: 8 hours+
TSI Forums: If they remember you.
DSLr: Apparently better than e-mail and TSI forums, but no where on the TSI site mentions about it.

Sorry, I didn't know editing the rating would bump this back up. However, I would like to mention other supports had been great.

Your Review

Hello Paul,

I am sorry that you feel your experience has been less than satisfactory.

I read through your direct thread conversations and as for Alan's comment to have it preferred to one communication medium, he is only trying to suggest that we keep support in one are to allow us to keep the confusion to a minimum and the information in one area to provide easier services.

This is especially true when we are as busy as we are now. With the recent changes in packages, things have been crazy all over the place which has increased response times all over. We are working on brining in some more staff to lower delays in answering customer inquiries.

I also noticed that your issue may be resolved, if this is not the case, please let me know so I can have someone call you.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Re: Your Review

Luckily my internet issue fixed itself. The support who didn't do his job correctly wrote the same thing as Alan. He even wrote "if you rather to have constant attention" on the internet issue to call TSI, which made me write this review. Do I really need "constant attention" on my issue or even use other support channels, if it wasn't for this specific support? As a customer, I pick the method of communication that is the best for me and I didn't expect it to be so awful.

Re: Your Review

I agree that it could have been better. We should have passed on the situation before leaving for the day.

It all depends on the definition of "constant". If you have an issue that needs to be handled constantly until resolved, then phone is the best method, however based on wait times, it is understandable to reach out in other mediums.

We hope to learn from your experience to make our support better.

Thank you for sharing.

Setup was a living hell, Bell did not communicate to TS that my house was not ready to receive DSL service, took 19 days to troubleshoot and send out a bell tech to replace a box with a new one. When Bell came over the 1st time they replaced the box but I don't even think they tested the line before leaving. 2nd Bell visit they upgraded my sync speed to near what I am supposed to be getting but that just made the problem worse. 3rd Bell visit they lowered my sync speed in an attempt to stabilize my connection but refused to move me to a closer remote and my connection was always struggling to do anything.

Bell seems to be as useless and non compliant as possible to make 3rd party ISPs lose customers. Teksavvy needs to take a stand and get something done about this problem.

I have since cancelled my Teksavvy DSL service.

Re: Your review

I have been a happy Teksavvy customer for many years and have been quite happy with both the internet and service.
Up until recently that is....
Let me go through what has happened to me in the past month.
-Service keeps going down intermittently almost daily !!
Up for 15 mins down for 15mins and so on and so on.
-Tech support has gone from almost always answering the call within the first ten to fifteen minutes to hold times of over 45 minutes being the norm
-Upon complaining to them REPEATEDLY about my EXTREMELY POOR INTERNET I was told by no less than 2 techs and 1 manager that I'm pretty much SOL with intermittent problems as Rogers will NOT ACCEPT THE TICKET!!
So in other words TOUGH LUCK TO YOU!!!!!!
I have repeatedly tried to get anything out of these guys such as getting the problem solved, credit, refund (At least giving me back my $140 credit I have with them but always the answer has been a resounding NOOOOOOOOO.
As in NO CREDIT
NO REFUND.
Their favourite thing is to blame Rogers for EVERYTHING and take no responsibility WHATSOEVER THEMSELVES!!! Must be nice to run a business like that....
I am now looking for an internet provider in my area as these guys have become DISGUSTINGLY BAD ALMOST OVERNIGHT!!!!!!
DO NOT GIVE THESE GUYS YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY YOU WILL GET RIPPED OFF!!!!!
I am STILL WAITING for a manager to call me (They say it takes over 48hrs to get one to call-AWESOME service eh ???)

To be fair, Telecon not showing up is not REALLY Tek's fault, but it really chaps my @ss that there is no accountability with the incumbent. Seriously, I wasted a day at home for what? My service was running effective 7:51am the morning of the install.

From Montreal I have an higher latency, first hop at 20ms, but for 4$ I have a static ip+1mbps binairies usenet access.

It took some time for the installation but I was notice during the order it would maybe take some times. And I never had dsl/pots at this place since 6 month. I wasn't bad because I already Cable internet with Voip, I wasn't worried at all.

UPDATE, more than 2 year later, I'm happy and nothing changed. Everything work as it should.

UPDATE2, (05/2012) Still happy, it even cost me less with the off peak usage as 300gb is enough!

Update3 (04/2013) Happy camper, I'm moving and would have got 25/10, but not possible on DSL. I'll need to go to cable. It's cheaper but I Wanted the static IP + usenet extra.

Next review will be on videotron Cable side in june.

My Other Reviews

·Bell Sympatico
UPDATE March/13

Canceled my service was fast and a confirmation date and code was given. Its unfortunate that they cannot prorate service as I was left with about a week of no Internet at home before moving out. Was nice that they confirmed the cancellation with an email when requested. Not many companies/utilities will do that and you always want to have some kind of cancellation confirmation.

UPDATE August/12

I forget who I talked to while at Teksavvy getting the service installed while living in Calgary, but we talked for a good hour on the phone getting my service up and running. He was very pleasant despite having issues finding my house in Telus system. Even after the service was ordered, Telus ended up having some 'issues' and the installation date was pushed back but Teksavvy had phoned back a couple times to keep me apprised of the situation. The Telus tech did arrive on the installation day, he did something outside but did not come to the door. Sync light worked moments later. Service was good for a week till I had some kind of authentication error. Called Teksavvy and after that the service was perfect for the remainder of the time I was there.

UPDATE November/11

After being with Bell for home phone service for *many* years, they decided to add a bunch of new fees to a basic line for no reason. No longer have any services will Bell directly and will not return nor recommend anyone to them. Ordered Teksavvy home phone, basically the same service I was getting with Bell and now save $10 a month. Bell lowered my DSL profile to the default 3mbit 'as expected' though but Teksavvy was prompt with their ticket to get the profile changed back to 5mbit.

UPDATE November/10

Called tech support for the first time this week. Called at 8pm at night and only had a 5 minute wait. Was quickly resolved by support. Looking forward to seeing cable offering expanding to more areas.

UPDATE October/08

I was randomly upgraded to a higher profile with Fastpath last night and received a call on my machine this afternoon from a Teksavvy employee wanting me to call back to confirm the upgrade. I was pleasantly surprised that both the speed and ping times were significantly better. Now that's what I call service after having dealt with poor customer service with Bell the last few years. Currently getting 12ms to Google.com, down from 30ms.

UPDATE March/08

Canceled Bell Sympatico after being a customer for 7+ years. Canceling was a terrible experience as I was told I phoned in 3 days too early to cancel. I was told I had to phone exactly 30 days to the end of my contract. I thought I was being a curious customer by phoning ahead to inform them that I would no longer be using the service after the contract ended. Phoned back and got a different person and after 20 minutes, I finally got a cancellation number. Switched to Teksavvy. Literally took no more than a few minutes to sign up for a full unlimited account (as I already had a DSL Premium login), get my login and completely switch over.

UPDATE January/08

Having been a Bell Internet Customer for many years, I finally decided to spend the extra $10 a month and test out Teksavvy's Premium 100GB login. All the problems I had with FTP SSL being capped at 32kbps and other throttling issues were solved instantly. I will be using the login for the next two months till my current Sympatico contract expires and will probably sign up for an Unlimited Account. I've been comparing ping times, trace routes, and overall connection quality and have been impressed with Teksavvy.

I think TekSavvy is probably the best ISP, but unfortunately, I'm having major slowdown issues at night. This has been going on for over 2 years, and I've been calling TekSavvy on a reguIar basis for this, and still nothing.

- I'm rating their tech support a 3 because although the techs themselves are ok, the tech support system doesn't seem to be powerful enough to actually change anything on Bell's side, so they are useless to me really.
- Connection reliability a 2 : speaks for itself based on the problems I see (goes down to ~0.4 mbits at night). I'm giving it a 2 because it is as advertised during the day usually.

I'll update if/when they ever fix these problems.

Hello Amou,

Thank you for the review. I’m sorry to hear you were having an issue with the DSL lines, I am happy to see you have upgraded to the Cable internet! How do you like it??

I also see you have posted that the phone support is always busy, we are aware there are current wait times. We do apologize for this! With the new lowered pricing, new packages and new areas just introduced a few weeks ago; this has driven up our call volume. I can assure you that our phone agents are working to get to everyone as fast as possible.

Thanks again for this post, if you have any questions please let us know.

Par for the course unfortunately.
