When considering clecs, remember, that if there are issues, and they have to deal with a third party : LOOK OUT . noone will get telus to do anything for me. My plan is to order a telus phone line on the same circuit so that I can get support finally. When I need to be sure i can get online I use my phone as a modem If i couldn't do that I would have switched to another isp awhile ago.

3 different people at this company have been rude to me. One was really really bad and insulted me. The others were just cranky/rude in general which i can understand. I told the guy I was speaking with that I would write a review about the mishap i was dealing with (fee for changing account information within first days of account activation) and he made me feel like i had to kiss his ass just to get a few buck off their fee, so it only cost me like 35$ for not remembering the correct apartment number I was moving in to. That's ok though , they have to deal with telus and pay them, so i guess i understand, and sometimes my phone line starts unsyncing every few minutes for the whole night. but they fixed it, I've been online for like a super long stretch now I can't remember how happy I am to be online yah! I'm going to go check the forums some more and see if I can't get on this usenet server now.

-- everthing is all fixed now though , no more connection drops and the speed is good too

the next day after i wrote this I recieved a msg from a tech

I havent had any problems for a day and a bit now, and I didn't even have to talk to anyone to get it fixed I got a message from a tech named Scott saying let him know if there is still problems, I don't know what someone did, but my connection stays on now solid and is faster than before too. I just called to leave him a message saying it's good now, anyways, Thanks much.

This is by far the best ISP I've seen here available in the National Capital Region. Not only is it fast and reliable it also has the best costumer service I've seen so far all business grouped together.

Had a speed issue the 1st day, contacted TSI Direct on this forum and withing 48 hours Bell had changed my profile to 5000/800 FP. After that 2 days later Bell changed my profille to 6000/800 Interleaved. Contacted TSI Direct again, and same results profile changed within 48 hours.

I even noticed that I was billed twice for my first month, called and TSI offered me to either give me back the money of the second payment or to put it for the next month, So I chose the second option since next month is December.

TekSavvy is not the best ISP in Canada for nothing.

Edit(02/10/2009) : After 1 year and half I'm still pleased with teksavvy! They are very good!

Edit(09/03/2009) : Still an awesome Service provider, nothing bad to say about them! Even transfered my homephone with them!

I switched from a grandfathered unlimited sympatico 5000/800 plan to TekSavvy's 5000/800 premium. The switch was seamless. I had good service with bell for years and TSI matches it. It's really been a seamless transition. The only thing I've noticed is more money in my wallet! I hope the service lasts me a long time.

Transferred from Rogers to Teksavvy, and after a few hickups when Bell transferred my phone line to Teksavvy and disconnected my DSL - everything is now running great. I have dealt with support several times including changing from /29 to /30 subnets - and have always been dealt with professionally and efficiently. I feel that the company actually does take an active interest in working out issues - which is more than I can say of the two major players. I have been a happy customer for over a year now.

My DL connection went from 5MB to 1MB to 512Kbps and CO location changed from 2km to 6KM. I was told that the DL speed change was necessary to resolve the connection problem with my network (since I am 6KM away from CO). CS ignored or don't have a clue on how i was 2KM to CO earlier. What I don't understand is how come my CO location is changed from 2KM to 6KM. There is no answer from their CS on this question and he was joking that "there could be mouse in your house which might be causing issue with my network inside my house". Yep. Mouses in high rise, well maintained condo is so advanced that it knows how to change your phone line from CO which was 2K to ~6KM.

Bottom line is, if you experience connection problem right after you are connected with DSL, just quit and go back to Rogers. My experience with Teksavvy is a nightmare... I am going back to Rogers and never ever again look at DSL connection even if they give it for free..

    LOL that cracked me up.

Sounds to me you have one of the following that happened:

    1. Severe line problem that TSI and Bell did not address, nor did anyone give a damn it seems.

    2. Bell moved you off a remote and more or less told you to take a hike since your a TSI customer and TSI can't do a thing about it except take your cancellation.

    or a combination of both.

That is the nature of Bell, resellers, and DSL.

    Re: yoyo effect

TSI Nick, Thanks for the response. To tell you the truth, I am really tired of going over the "fixing" process again. I called many times asking the CS to fix the problem with my line and I know that you guys tried your best to fix it. At one time, I was told that it was fixed by reducing the upload speed (which is fine with me as I am more worried about DL than UL) without any change to Download speed (5MB) (Ticket# OID-92446). I was happy for few days before everything went down hill (profile changed without informing me about it and moved to 6km CO). I know that this is bell's doing but only the very first CS promised to escalate it with bell and the rest (2-3 - subsequent calls) never bothered to address it, literally asked me to live with the slow speed.

It seems, Bell screwed up my line and TSI either couldn't do anything about it or thought not worth fighting with Bell.

Hi, I seem to have the same problem. It was great in the beginning, 4.5-5mbs, now it is 1-2, rarely 3-4. Could Bell really screw the whole thing?

I was with Videotron Cable isp for 9 years before they started screwing people over with their Unlimited package being now caped at 100GB. So i started looking for another ISP. DSL was never my #1 choice but i did not have any other options. So i started to check Sympatico and learned that they throttle their customers on P2P downloads and other stuff..

Then, i found TekSavvy, with their 200GB monthly cap for half the price of those other big ISPs.... Because it was ADSL and had never tested my line for an ADSL connection, i was scared to do the switch. But after reading all those great reviews and knowing that the customer service was going to be excellent. I made the switch.

Everything you read about the customer service being amazing is 100% true ! Subscription was made easy even though i did not know much about ADSL and how the hole thing gets setup. I received my modem and filters withing 48 hours and my activation date was 5 days after my call to subscribe.

I am now a happy TekSavvy customer with a very stable 5MB line and a 200GB monthly Cap for 29.95$ a month !!!

If you are thinking of switching ISP, Go with TekSavvy NOW !!!

EDIT: Here is a speedtest with my 5M TekSavvy ADSL account:
    525k/sec down & 78k/sec up

EDIT 25/08/2009: Been with TekSavvy for about 1 1/2 year now and still happy !
Sability is there, MLPPP support to bypass Bell's Throttling is available. About 7 of my friends switched with me in this 1 1/2 year and they love it too.

Now waiting for the UBB decision that will impact pricing, but one thing is for sure, TekSavvy is on our side !

I've been a Bell customer for 8 years, and recently discovered Teksavvy through various searches. Reading the reviews, they're bang on.

I live less than 0.5km from the CO in my area, so speeds were never an issue. Technically, their service for me was solid. However, the company business practices I find unethical, arrogant, and completely mis-leading.

Enter Teksavvy. No "EMILY". Every time I call, I wait 3 rings, and someone picks up. I wanted to cancel my unlimited long distance feature as it was not being used and the CSR simply said "no problem." Period. No up-sell. No offer for other packages. What a breath of fresh air to speak to someone in the country, and actually understand them plain as day.

I recently switched the Inet service to Teksavvy. Even with the UBB changes and the minor speed reductions, I am still thrilled to be a customer of Teksavvy. I know this company will always fight for us.

Teksavvy's strength is it's Customer service, and in the end, THAT is what matters most to people.

Thank you Rocky and gang for treating me like a human, and not an open wallet.

2009/08/25 - This is an update to my previous review.

I have now had TekSavvy for almost 2 years. The past two years have been extremely smooth. No major issues to speak of. TekSavvy does have "emergency maintenance" more regularly than other ISPs but I can forgive them--they are growing fast. I've moved twice and had no major issues with either move. My connection was pulled accidentally and TekSavvy was quick in having Bell come out and fix the problem.

TekSavvy customer support is still second to none. You get a human being within seconds and they know what they're doing.

Recently Bell has imposed throttling on all wholesalers, including TekSavvy. TekSavvy offers an MLPPP service which allows you to bypass the throttling, but it costs an extra $4/month. It's worth it for me, but it's an expense I wish I didn't have to pay.

I long for the day when Bell allows wholesalers access to higher speed tiers. Slow download speed is still my biggest issue with TekSavvy. When Rogers offers 10 mbps as their standard tier, having half the speed on TekSavvy hurts.

With the recent ruling by the CRTC regarding UBB, TekSavvy will soon have to impose a 60 GB usage limit on everyone. This is going to hurt. However, TekSavvy will still have ONE benefit over Ma Bell, and that is MLPPP--the means to evade throttling. This is a huge benefit for me, and probably enough to keep me as a TekSavvy customer even after UBB comes into effect.

Overall, I am still quite happy to be a TekSavvy customer. I'm worried about what might happen in the future but I'm confident that Rocky and the gang are looking out for our best interests. For the time being I still highly recommend TekSavvy to all my friends and family.

    My Other Reviews·Rogers Hi-Speed
Originally moved my phone line over to Teksavvy in July '08 and was pleased with the price. When I moved to Toronto in I was in need of a new ISP as Rogers was horribly slow so I gave Teksavvy a call. I haven't been happier with my internet service.

The connection is reliable and I am getting a full 5Mbps. TSI also keep you up to date on any of the work they are doing on their network that may impact you which is nice.

All and all I am very happy as a Teksavvy subscriber and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a new ISP
