Solid DSL service at a reasonable price. Switched over from Shaw after I grew tired of the incessant harassment for going over their caps.

The service consistently maxes out the link speed of the DSL line. For me that's 3mbit down / 1up: faster service would be great, but the link speed is in the hands of Telus and is the best I can get in the area.

The modem is reliable, the tech support is easy to reach and knowledgeable, and you can get advanced features unavailable with other ISPs, like MLPPP and static IP addresses.

    I was on Videotron.
When my contract was due to renew, overage costs would go from 30 (plus taxes) to 50 (plus taxes).
I had highspeed. I always had overage costs. I paid about 65/mo total for monthly net service plus overages. With the increase, it would jump to almost 90/mo.
They gave me 30gb bandwidth on the regular service one-year plan.

Since I use anywhere from 60gb to 160gb per month on download, the overall new cost was prohibitive.

I researched quite carefully the available companies in my area who offer DSL. I chose TSI; determining factor was consistently high reviews in this forum.

From the start, the CSR's I spoke to were friendly and professional. Service commenced with an overlay on my Videotron contract (I did this on purpose so I would have no interruption in net access); TSI started service a week after I signed up. No problem in setup, receiving their modem (i paid for it), and accessing their net.

Called Videotron to cancel. BLABLABLA why are you leaving BOOHOOHOO we have no choice but to increase overages BLABLABLA oh shut up already. Fed-up, on another call, I finally said I would have no computer so I didn't need net access. Fighting a customer on cancellation is wrong.

    I'm on TSI's 5mb plan, 31.45$/mo tax included.

    Let's do the math:

Videotron: (if I stayed) 90$/mo including overages (never higher than 160gb/mo)
TSI: 31.45$/mo (200gb included in plan).

    Savings: approx 60$/mo

Downside: Lower download speed (avg 5.3mb) but I knew this when I joined so this isn't a negative point.
    Upside: $$$ in my pocket.

I'm happy with everything, tho today I'm annoyed because they emailed me a 5 hr interruption of email service. It's 16 hours and 24 minutes later and still no incoming email (another thread I saw explained the delay). pfft I can live with it

    Cons:

Few... sales wasn't as informed as I would have liked them to be about the technical end, but by far more knowledgeable than Bell's tech support so kudos.
Install takes a few days longer than it should, but again, wholesaler issue - nothing can be done for the first 3 days it seems just because of Bell's crap.

    Pros:

Everything else. Intelligent tech support that actually listen if there's an issue (no canned Q&A), fast response to everything, communicative, honest, and relatively inexpensive.

I would like a better price ($39.95+$4 for MLPPP + band charges + tax) but for unlimited bandwidth and throttle bypass it's worth it. It's also $15 cheaper than my previous Bell contract which was only 2mbps faster and capped + throttled.

Any company that interacts openly with their customer base on all issues deserves my hard earned money. Rogers has been ripping me off for so long, my only regret is not joining TSI any sooner. Highly Recommended!

    My Other Reviews·Bell Sympatico
After eight years with Bell Internet, I decided to look for more economical alternatives, and have arrived at TekSavvy. I am on TekSavvy's Premium service, running a self-purchased Thomson SpeedTouch 516 with v6.0.22 firmware.

TekSavvy had received favourable reviews from my personal friends and the DSLR community, and I was not disappointed. The phone reps are knowledgeable, efficient and friendly. Calling a second time in one day, one recognized me from my voice. Wait times were virtually non-existent.

This was just as well, as my switchover was quite painful. I was transitioning off Bell CondoTV, aka VDSL, which is an atypical situation. I wanted minimal downtime, while such changeovers could take up to 5 days to sort themselves out. It involved a lot of calls to Bell and TekSavvy to sort things out. Unfortunately, there was a lack of experience in handling VDSL from both parties but TSI remained good sports about it all and worked hard to sort things out.

TSI managed to get DSL hooked up in under a day, however I received no sync. However, one quick call and a Bell technician arrived the very next day. To Bell's credit, he too was knowledgeable and efficient. The culprit: no one had bothered to connect my line to the OPI-DSLAM.

In the end, the switchover wasn't completely smooth, however I only lost a day and a half of Internet service. TSI's customer service won the day.

They offer a really good service. People on the phone seem nice and pleasant to talk to. I now have an mlppp setup with them at 2 x 6016/800 it cost me only 67$ taxe, second dry-loop and fix ip included. download give10mbps upload give 1400kbps (real speed)

The ordering process was great, really nice person on the phone.

Changing from 3000/800 to a faster line have been easy and fast. Activating mlppp connection was fast too.

The customer service is really great.

Speed is good and reliability is good. I sync at 6016 / 800 interleave on my line.

their French customer service had improved a lot since I'm with Teksavvy, that great.

Had problem with physical connection, bell take time to repair as they had problem finding the where it was located, but have receive good service if i take into acount the difficulties of the problem.

    "not fully bilingual"

What do you mean? TekSavvy has a lot of people that are bilingual. Of course, not all of them, but quite a few.

»TekSavvy FAQ »Official support in the forum

That list only shows those who are bilingual and also post on these forums, I'm sure there are more when you call.

you have always French CSR at the first level, but if you need to talk to a tech of second level they are not always available in French. I don't find this a problem for me, but maybe this could be a problem for someone.

    My Other Reviews·odynet
I signed up for Internet service with TekSavvy near the end of August, with activation set for the beginning of September. There were no issues at all with my switch from OdyNet to TekSavvy, and communication has been great. I was already a home phone customer with TekSavvy, so I was already familiar with the friendly service.

I have had no connectivity issues, and my DSL profile was upgraded from 3 Mbps to 5 Mbps when I switched providers. In fact, there is nothing to really talk about other than reliable service at a great price.

The only issue I have had is with billing and accounting. This has been an ongoing issue with the company. It isn't anything major like overbilling, just small things like inconsistent billing dates (my first month charge was invoiced almost a month late), and lack of itemization of long distance charges (not strictly related to Internet, but TekSavvy in general). As of 2009, all my bills have since been consolidated, and long distance billing has now been itemized, so I'm happy to see this has come together in the last year.

I really wish that TekSavvy would have an online billing system which would allow me to access my bills over the Web rather than having them delivered by e-mail. Such a system would be more secure, and would give me a centralized location for my billing history.

All in all, TekSavvy is a great company and a great value. I hope that they can keep it up in the face of competition from companies like Bell.

    My Other Reviews·Rogers Hi-Speed
Used these guys for 3 years, never had any issues. My only complaint is the 5Mbit speed and the throttling, though those are both Bell's fault.

Hopefully the CRTC will change that. If so, I'll come back immediately.

I just got my Internet set up today, it is a Dry Loop. It took awhile to get everything set up because of Bell -- I had activation date set for Sept 14th, but it was delayed until the 16th. Anyway, everything looks good now; the TekSavvy people were available 24/7, I even spoke to somebody near midnight on the 16th who put in a request for Bell Technical Solutions to come out and fix my line.

BTS came this morning at around 0900, he was a pretty nice guy, pulled the line to a demarc point, and tested it, informing me the sync rate I would obtain is 5mb/s.

The first bill was a bit much (came to about $150, but that's because I also purchased a SpeedTouch 516 modem), and I'm still not sure if they will offer to pro-rate their service price since I will probably be cancelling it in about 8 months (I'm a student and currently renting).

The modem seems a bit pricey given that other places sell the same one for $50, but I needed it quickly. TekSavvy also seemed like a nice company so I don't mind helping them remain profitable, since they are probably the most competitive player versus the ILECs.

I did a lot of research prior to getting the connection, and had briefly considered Acanac since it's cheaper, though I ended up going with TekSavvy since it was a reasonable price and I had amazing customer service (both via these forums and calling).

The above mentioned monthly cost contains everything it will cost to me over an 8 month projection, on the Premium plan ($29.95 base). I took the equipment cost of $75 amortized over 8 months: $9.38 as an "equipment cost"; my band is $9.10/mth for dry loop; plus the one-time costs: activation $19.99, shipping $10

I'm leaving out probably a bunch of details here, but I'm strapped for time, so I'll clarify later.

Thanks TekSavvy, you're awesome. I got lucky I guess with Bell's service people
