Sales and tech that installed when were professional and friendly, although tech support was knowledgeable and got me off the phone pretty quick, I had to wait 4 days for a technician to come out.
During the day I get (what I would call good service for satellite) 1.5 down 200k up with around 800~ms ping times. Like clockwork when 4 PM comes around speeds go down with it. Ping times shoot to over 2000ms and download speeds are a pitiful 200-300k. You even have to refresh pages often or they will time out before they load. The satellite is obviously overloaded as it is easily overwhelmed every day. And as to be expected rain or heavy clouds also screw with your service.
It's better than dial-up and their caps are much better then HughesNet (17G month vs. daily caps), and its quite expensive, I pay $86/month for their 1.5M package. Absolute last resort before dial-up.
Comments:
| | hughesnet monthly? Actually Hughesnet has an overnight "fap free time" from 2am to 7am eastern, which 'can' allow for more data per month than Wildblue. The fap free time allows for users larger updates, etc., during what can be considered a lower use time on the satellites).
ViaSat1 for WildBlue should allow for better speeds and FAP limits. I have not looked lately, but it is expected to be launched sometime in August 2011 and then home users service by January 2012. Hughesnet Jupiter launch, in about mid 2012. -- Prisoners are treated better than supposedly free North Americans.

Wild Blue satellite internet service is faster than dialup, but only slightly faster. And the half-duplex connection means you cannot do VOIP, VNC, or other highly interactive applications. Web browsing and email are okay. I would never attempt telecommuting using a Wild blue connection.

Completely dissatisfied. Got the basic plan for normal use... after it was installed, Tech mentioned something about usage and slowing of service??? But, we use the Internet only for "normal" reasons - so no problems! Got my first WBA notice in two weeks - so, upgraded to the expensive plan - another notice in two weeks. It's ridiculous.
Potential customers should be made very aware of severe limitations - especially those new to satellite services.
You must know - your bad reviews double your good ones?

| | Poor service and poor system!!! I've been trying to email a friend of mine in Flemington MO for the past 2-3 weeks and his service (after their upgrade) is WORSE now than ever.... NONE!!! I suggested he go with another company and DROP THEM! No contract will be upheld in court if the company isn't filling their end of the deal... AND THEY ARE NOT | |
| | | Unsatisfied in Seattle This service is just about as fast as dial-up... I hate it. I'm coming from Comcast Cable (50mb) to 150-200kb on Wildblue. Very poor. If I could access dial-up, I would get rid of Satellite. It's overpriced ($90/mo) for 1.5mb, but I've never seen that speed since subscribing. Very bleak outlook until Verizon comes down my road for DSL. Hopeless in Seattle.... | |

Wild Blue's marketing and sales are very good. They market a good service and are very nice people. The bottom line is you are really limited as to what you can do. The basic plan was sold to me as being able to surf the net, check emails and download videos and songs. It was disclosed there are thresholds, but it is not explained well how fast those thresholds can be met and that there is a penalty when you surpass them.
We only had the service for 8 days when we passed the threshold limits. All my family does is log on to Facebook, do normal surfing, and download a couple of movies from Netflix. Nothing big. This service is really not for the general user. You would really need to sign up for their premium service which is very high compared to the market place. I suggest Verizon or Comcast Internet Services.
After a couple of phone calls with customer service, they were nice enough to let me out of my contract since I had only had the service for a little over a week. They were very nice to me and I appreciated that. I am changing companies.
Just be sure to do your research before choosing their services. It may not really be for you.
Comments:
| | NetFlix You do know that one NetFlix movie could be 3GB? The basic plan is almost useless for any large videos.
The basic package is only 7.5GB down and 2.3GB up. More than 2 NetFlix movies will kill that easy. -- Consumer Rights is more than just a suggestion.
| | | | Re: NetFlix The size of the movie isn't the problem, it's way too slow for streaming movies from Netflix. | |
| | | | | Re: NetFlix Wildblue is not recommended for Netflix as well as online gaming. Satellite Internet is for casual browsing not for real time applications such as netflix. Is it possible? Yes, with the middle or highest package but not great performance. And with FAP only a few movies a month is possible without being FAP'ed. | |

| | | My wife and I are currently getting screwed by a team up of DirecTV and Wild Blue. A third party salesperson set us up with both based on them being the "best price and services in our area". Well, we live smack dab in the middle of Las Vegas! Wild Blue turns out to be expensive and USELESS! We reached our download threshold within the first week of service, and it was horribly slow before that! Now we get less than 5 kbps data transfer rate. What the #$%^? People actually pay for this crap? Do they have a "satisfied customer"? I now realize that this service is for people who live in remote areas, but if you have to drive less than 50 miles to find a hot spot, you're better off taking the drive. You will waste A LOT less time and money.
What's worse is that even if they admit they're wrong, they WILL NOT REFUND YOUR MONEY!! Their rep admitted that this service should not have been sold to anyone that lives in a city and that it makes no sense for us to have to pay for this service, but there is no refund for any situation. They said they would give us twenty some dollars back (out of the $90 we paid). I called the 800 number on the card and stopped payment, but I have to dispute the charges and they will probably win. Good thing I paid with a prepaid card, as soon as the charges are disputed, I temporarily get the money back on the card. Then I can withdraw it and throw the card away. Screw Wild Blue!

Do to the almost of people in our locating the service is full and causing very slow speeds. Consider some other service before contacting WB. Been with them for 5 years now and service and speeds have been getting bad! Looking right now on a different service..

Have had Wildblue for about 3 months....ummmm better than Nothing...but not much. It is so slow. The only game I play is Cityville and it won't even load half of the pages. I thought about upgrading but have heard that it doesn't help. Any suggestions how to make my computer run faster? I need help. I live in Newport, WA a bit out of town, we don't have a lot of options.
Comments:
| | How about this one »www.povn.com/Wireless.html I guess by your local, this is the area for you. Newport, WAshington state. And no contract if you are in range, but site does not list speeds or GB cap.
But you are stuck with WildBlue for two years(contract)?
Another option is to see if the other satellite is better. Anik F2(beam 12 mainly with beam 13 as an edge) and WildBlue 1(beam 102) are the two satellites for your area. I don't know if one NOC(gateway) serves both satellites, so if bandwidth is lacking on the server, you are still screwed. But you are in the spot beam overlap area for the Anik F2, so service may have an issue in that regard.
ViaSat 1 in service for maybe January 2012. Unless they damage it again.
Hughesnet is another satellite provider with the spaceway 3 KA band. Stay away from the KU units. Free time(no FAP) between 2am and 7am eastern. And around 200MB's to about 400MB's per day(not counting the FAP free time). The first few days there is no FAP to allow for computer software updates. But don't abuse it.

In a rual area with only dial up, No DSL, Cable or good cell tower around. Had service over 5 years now and all in all happy, Looking forward to the new satellite launch this summer. Hope to see improvement. (Much better than the 24.4kbps dial up i had)
But make sure to get a good installer and watch him or her.....

I had to intervene for my daughter who signed up for Wild Blue internet service yet she was not told that for $49.95 per month she would only be able to upload ONE 2.3 megabyte picture per month!!. That's one picture for $50, then the service shuts off! We tried to cancel the service but the person we spoke to, "Marcus", refused to cooperate and refused to give me his supervisor's name because I was recording the call. He said it was OK for them to record the call (as they announce at the beginning of the telephone call) but I could not record them!! Beware of this company. If it isn't worth $50 for you to send just one 2.3 meg picture or file, then look to other suppliers.

W5JGV join:2001-02-03 Natchitoches, LA | Upload linits I think you have an error in your calculations.
The limits for the $49 Value Plan is 2,300 MB of upload capacity per rolling 30 day period. That is two THOUSAND three hundred MB.
So you could upload about 1,000 2.3 MB photos per 30 day period, assuming that no other upload data was used. In reality, taking into account other upload data used during web browsing and email, more likely between 500 - 700 photos per 30 day period.
Note that there is a great deal of difference between the Value Plan and the Pro plan. Everyone I know who signed up for the Value Plan eventually switched to the Pro Plan, due to the higher up/download limits and the faster speeds.

| 4 edits | Record them Contact your States "Consumer protection" or "State Attorney General" to get their facts on taping "your conversation" with companies to prevent/confirm fraudulent statements by the company. And then if you can tape, notify that ruling to the company that tries to avoid conversations with customers recording. And file a complaint with the courts(via, State attorney General or consumer protection) on it.
Or try to go email conversations only(insist that your phone is broken(excuse of, "people say it rings, but you don't hear any ringing". Call display to screen calls.), as the only way you will converse with them. It provides an instant written document for court.
Interesting loophole article. »householdwatch.com/logic/recording.php
But record without mention(depending on Nanny States B.S.) and then transfer that recording to paper with proper time stamps. So if the recording is not admissible in court, the notes may still be, as your "text" of events, since you can not write as fast as people talk(loophole). Please the Judge with proper explanations of your actions to be able to bring Justice, that would not be achievable otherwise.

Remember you are using your own States laws and regulations, since WildBlue is doing business in your State and the product is being used in your State. WildBlue will try to defer to their own States laws(Colorado).
And your upload limit is 2.3 GigaByte Or, 2300 MegaByte per month.
Note that if she exceeds the monthly limit..... Dial up will be faster. As she will have speeds reduced for roughly two weeks, until monthly rolling FAP(fair access policy) reduces to about 70% of maximum monthly consumption.

| | | Doesnt make sense Satellite does have his limits but with HughesNet and wildblue you are allowed so much bandwith per day/month. Neither company limits you to a 2MB picture per month given both companies give you at least 10GB per month on the most popular plans. You have your information wrong. | |

unless someone is stealing our bandwidth, we do not get the amount of daily up/download that we should be and even when we do it is as slow as dial up, I am looking for cable internet that will serve the area I live now..no way will we be renewing our contract with wild blue, the prices are way over what anyone should have to pay for such poor service.
