We signed up for Sunrocket in early November 2006 and got one year for free deal that was being offered online on Halloween . Total charge for us was $199 plus a $9.00 fee - $20 rebate from FatWallet. So for $188.00 for 24 months of service the total charge works out to $7.83/month. So far, the service has been very good to excellent. It has never been down for us. Every time we use the phone it works just fine. It was easy to hook up to my Linksys router. Initially we could only call out, but the very next day calls could be received on our new phone number. I have not used their tech support yet and hopefully I never will need to. This service has many nice features including call forwarding, voice mail, 3 way calling, etc.

8/23/07 Left all customers without notice. After 2 1/2 years of service that was pretty good.

12/29/06 Sunrocket has been rock solid for me for quite some time. Looking good..

05/01/06 Sound quality is bad in the evening but that is probably a charter thing. Been rock solid for me. I still can't recomend voip to my friends that aren't computer savy.

01/19/06 Been with Sunrocket a year now. I am really satisfied overall. I just renewed at the yearly rate and got 13 months for $199.

My gizmo died a month or so ago. This time for no reason. Due to the holidays it took about 5 days to get it replaced. Would be nice to have one in reserve. This time I didn't have to convince them that it was fried. They simply did a couple tests and said a new one would be overnighted the next business day.

11/08/05 Lightning struck my gizmo a couple of months ago. Kind of a pain to convince sunrocket that it was fried.

Occasional outages but seldom affect me.

Been with them for about 10 months. No regrets...

Some people just expect way too much.. New company and new type of service. Get over it. Let them grow and I'm sure things will be great.

New bottom line. If you don't like it then drop it..

    06/02/05
Been with Sunrocket for about 5 months now. It has been a good experience. I noticed that faxing got better with the 4.54 gizmo upgrade. Infact all my faxes have been perfect since. Before it was 80% with the other 20% you had multiple tries to get it to go. There has been some downtime in the past couple of months. 99% of the time that I need to use the phone it is ready to go. Caller ID still not working for me. I just wish they would stop making promises on it. Just say, it will work one of these days. That would be fine with me. I don't need caller id for the most part as I have a bunch of contacts in my account on thier website. I would like to see auto redial for busy signals. But I get a lot for the money.

Bottom line.. Please stay in business Sunrocket!!. I will go without phone service if I have to pay sbc another dime..........

    02/04/05
My phone line was ready 2 days after ordering. But it took about 7 days to get the gizmo. Which is about what was promised. I signed on for the yearly for $200. I pay $50 + per month with SBC. Big savings if it all works out. Sound quality is great. Very loud and you can hear a pin drop on the other side.

I emailed Tech support with a problem that I thought I had. I thought you could hook a phone into port 2. Turns out that is for a 2nd line which will be enabled in the future.. I didn't get a responce in 24 hours so I did the chat thing and they told me about it. About a week later I got the responce for the email. This is a new and growing company. NO problem. Tech support people are nice. There was also a mis understanding about porting my old number. So I just kept my new number, which is fine with me.

The gizmo is great. I have it set so it takes priority of the bandwidth.

In all.. So far so good. I really hope it works out in the long run.

On thier web site it says after your year you have to choice to sign up for another year for the same price. We'll see how that goes as the gov gets involved with taxes and other fees.

The No-Gotcha Phone Company Got Me Again! (Bandits Without Guns)

I had smooth sailing most of the way then got blown away by SunRockets solar storm. Didn't think greed and incompetence could cause such pain for so many, but, I'll admit, I was wrong. Tried switching to ViaTalk and got salt rubbed in my wounds.

    Optimum Voice now!

    June 4, 2007 (Update)

The "No Gotcha" Phone Company Just Got Me!

Everything was just fine with SR until my fifth month of service. Friends began telling me that my number (my signature number in this case) was out of service. I checked it out, and sure enough, it disappeared from my account. I called it and got a recording that it was out of service. I checked my voice mail and was told I had only one mailbox on my account, not two. I called Sunrocket and they told me that they deleted it because it was inactive. "Not True". Then they told me that they sent me an Email telling me that they were doing this. Again, "NOT TRUE" . Then they told me that they could undelete it, but would start charging me $3.00 per month beginning July 1st.

I looked at my records and found a "Number Transfer Request Confirmation" dated 1/2/2007 that stated: "Once the transfer is complete, SunRocket will replace your original Household number with your Transferred number and your original Household Number will become another Signature Number. You will be charged an additional $3.00 per month for any number over the TWO (2) already included with your signature service plan.....".

This is not a matter of money to me, it is a matter of ethics. This is the first bad thing I have had to say about SunRocket. Considering some of the reviews I have read in this and other forums about SunRocket, I suppose it was just a matter of time.

BUT: I don't get mad, I get even . In the long run, this little stunt is going to cost them much more than it costs me. They may never know it, but I guarantee that it will. (Note: I am not implying anything illegal). When I have good things to say about companies I deal with, I share it with many. When I have bad things to say about companies I deal with, I share it with the world.

This too, like a kidney stone, shall pass!

    February 11, 2007 (Update)

It has been another 3 weeks and I have not had any problems with Sun Rocket other than a handful of unwanted calls which I promptly blocked and have not been bothered since. If there have been outages, I have not been aware of them. The phone has been there when I needed it and nobody has complained about not being able to reach me. I am still "Happy as a Hog in a Mud Waller" with Sun Rocket...

    January 25, 2007 (Update)

My 1/23/2007 number transfer happened on time, but it wasn't working properly. It was now time to make my first call to Sun Rocket support. Based on what I had been reading in the forums, I figured that my day would be wasted and my good mood would turn sour. Surprise! Surprise!. After a short wait, a friendly, articulate and knowledgeable young lady answered my call. She listened attentively to my problem, took down information then transferred me to another number. After a short wait, another pleasant, articulate and knowledgeable young lady asked some additional questions and determined that my existing carrier did not totally complete the number transfer and that Sun Rocket would take care of the problem. Later that day, I got a call from a pleasant, articulate and knowledgeable Sun Rocket support tech who confirmed what I had been told earlier that day and assured me that if my existing carrier followed through on their promise to complete the transfer, that I would be up and running properly in the following morning. He was absolutely correct. I am up and running on Sun Rocket with may transferred number as my primary number and the number Sun Rocket gave me at sign-up as a signature number. Calls are clear and crisp both inbound and outbound.

I was never without phone service during this episode. I never lost the Sun Rocket number given to me at sign-up and as soon as Sun Rocket told me that my existing provider did not properly complete the transfer, I hooked up a phone to the old system and I was able to make and take calls on the number that didn't properly transfer.

I have a couple of issues with their website but these are minor and not even worth calling about. I am sure they will be fixed in the future without them hearing from me.

I installed Sun Rocket on 1/2/2007 and have had only one bump in the road which appears to be the fault of my old provider. The problem was diagnosed by Sun Rocket quickly and addressed in a very timely fashion.

My first experiences with Sun Rocket tech support was totally positive. Far better than my most optimistic expectations. I am not in any way affiliated with Sun Rocket.

    January 19, 2007 (Update)

I have been trying to find holes in my Sun Rocket Service for 17 days now. The only flaw I have found thus far is a degraded call quality on one occasion when I was running Streaming Quotes during a call. I have run this same test several times but experienced a problem only once. I have tried calling all over the country (even the mid west during the ice storms) and had no problems. I have heard many complaints about calls to 800 numbers having poor quality so I called numerous 800 numbers all over the country and had no problems.

I am scheduled to have my existing number transferred on 1/23/2007. If that goes well, I will stay with Sun Rocket. So far I am loving it!.

    [Original Post]

It was actually easier to set Sun Rocket up than it was to open the packaging. I plugged the new router into a LAN Port on the Switch connected to my Befsr41, plugged an RJ-11 cord (connected to a phone splitter in my basement) into the Phone1 port on the LinkSys SPA2102 and I was off to the races. Everything worked the first time.

The only remaining item is the transfer of my existing number. If that goes as smoothly as every this else, I'll be dancing in the aisles.

The six day from order to success would have been two days except UPS screwed up. The SR package had a status of "Out for Delivery" on UPS Tracking the day after I ordered it. I was waiting for it when the status changed to "Exception, Recipient unavailable to sign for the package". That was a bald face lie. It was also the Friday before New Years, so the clowns at UPS rescheduled it for a 2/02/2007 Delivery (4 days later). It came, no signature required at 6:47 PM on 1/2/2007. I complained to UPS, but that was also a waste of time. UPS apparently subscribes to the "3 I" philosophy of doing business " Indifference, Ineptitude and Incompetence"

I missed out on the $99 per year promo but did get 2 new GE 5.8 GHZ cordless phones with the package. The SPA2102 Linksys Phone Adapter with Router was also included free. The new Cordless Phones work well with my existing cordless package. Now I have 6 cordless phones and 2 corded phones all working with SR perfectly.

I called some friends in Vermont (from Long Island) and I could detect zero difference in quality between Sun Rocket and my old (Optimum Telephone) system. Neither could those I was speaking with.

So far My Sun Rocket Experience is a BIG THUMBS UP!

Before I went with Sun Rocket I scoured this forum looking for those in my locality having Optimum Online as an ISP who had positive experiences with their VOIP providers. Sun Rocket floated to the top. so I gave it a shot. So far I am glad I did!

    GOTCHA!

How about your 4.1 rating which puts SR at the top of the VOIP list and helps it keep its Silver Medal?

    Shenanigans predicted deficit of leadership

The shenanigans of this company easily predicted the inadequacy of the leadership it installed. Whether the installation was in error or the people who started it themselves were bad, is not what I am referring to now. The advertised and implemented product was run by bad people.

We received over 16 months of the second year free plan for $199. We previously had Charter Communications VOIP and Sunrocket was at least as good quality of service for less than half the monthly costs. Order and install went smoothly with a few bumps in the road that ended up being caused by Charter Communications, who is still our high speed data provider. We are now using Teleblend with slightly increased cost and decreased usability of features, We miss Sunrocket, who were easily reached and whose support had become quite efficient when they went to a US call center.

    ***UPDATE July 20, 2007 FINAL*****************
This has been the best phone service I have ever experienced.
It is going to be very difficult to replace them.

I wish all the now former employees of SunRocket good luck.
Thank You!! You all did so well for me.

Even if I don't get a refund of the remaining 5 months on my contract; I still saved alot of money considering the long distance and all the features that I used. I am well ahead of what I would have paid Ameritech or SBC or AT&T or whatever they are called now.

    ****update December 25, 2006***********
Well another year has come and gone, and I am still very pleased with my SunRocket service. I have far fewer outages with SunRocket then I have ever had with SBC(now AT&T). The savings on the long distance and features would have been unheard of just a few years ago.

By far the best feature is the call blocking. Being a couple year customer my call blocking list has grown by the month. I get very few telephone solicitors calling me any more. I have most all blocked. They hear a busy signal. The local news paper has been calling me for months some times 4 and 5 times a day to get me to sign up for the newspaper. They just always get a busy signal. For the first time in my life I control the phone. I am NOT on the do not call list.

I had some work contacts move from Florida to North Carolina this year. 1 phone call and 3 minutes later my signature number was changed to area code 828 phone number, with NO charge! Just that simple!

On the downside of things having had 2 phone numbers with SBC both ported to SunRocket; I get double the junk mail from AT&T offering me a deal to switch back. The deal is NO deal at all.

Renewal time is around the corner. I wonder what kind of deal I will get offered.

    *****update Jan 10, 2006*****
My SunRocket renewal came in last week. SunRocket is doing 13 months on the renewal and 1 month service credit. That takes my price to $14.03 per month for the 13 months. I am very happy with the deal they made me. The savings is just unbelievable for all the features that I am enjoying SunRocket. I love my SunRocket!!

    ****update Dec 14, 2005*****

I have used SunRocket for most of this year. I must say that I really love my SunRocket. I realize that nothing with telecommunications is perfect; I have had far fewer issues with SunRocket then I ever had with SBC in any given year. It is coming closer to renewal time. I hope that SunRocket doesn't raise the price on me. I have saved significant amount of money and have enjoyed all the features that SBC charged a premium for. The only problem with dumping SBC is all the junk mail they send me to come back. Too bad they didnt drop there price for me before I left them.

The transition from SBC to SunRocket is a success story.
    Thank You SunRocket!!

    ****UPDATE JUNE 6, 2005*********

Looks like SunRocket now has the name portion of Caller ID fixed.
Mine now works with NO errors!! I love my SUNROCKET!!

    **UPDATE***
I signed and faxed over to have my number ported over on Feb 26..
My line was successfully ported on March 14th. Goodbye SBC..
you are a company of the past.. SBC and AT&T can now sit back
and talk about the old days.. and continue to lose your customers!

Sound Quality is fantastic, and The $199.00 per year is best price I could find. I dont have to pay again until 2006!! Website is fully functional. I am having a issue with my call forwarding for 1 of my lines, I got a voicemail today from Tech Support that they believe they have the issue resolved.

I have had other VOIP providers in the past and this one the customer service is better than most. I say this in that I mean that you can actually get a human being on the phone when you call. Their follow up leaves a little to be desired but at least they do follow up. I have had a couple of issues that were quickly resolved.

Our call quality has been rock solid, the features are worth the price and overall we are happy with the service. The minor hiccups here or there (very few) are worth paying 1/4 the price that I was paying BellSouth.

    Update
Well I like the service so much I just got the $199/2yr plan .. yep $8.29/mo + tax can't beat it,

    *****03/31/07****

Well been with SunRocket for over a year and it is rock solid. I can't believe BellSouth/ATT charges $70+ for the same service. SunRocket ROCKS!!

Well thanks a lot for screwing your customers SR. I hope the powers that be there can't find jobs for what they did to their customers. I also filed a complaint with the FCC since I now have ZERO 911 service.

Only about 5 days from order to receipt of Gizmo. Easy Install. Tech/Customer Support Level 1 answer the phones and all speak fluent English. I've had Packet 8 for about 3 years, but the price & features with special deals from SunRocket & ViaTalk (2 yr for 1) convinced me it was time to consider the switch. I chose SunRocket over ViaTalk because SR offers two telephone numbers, has a full refund policy for 30 days and prorates refunds during the 1st year. SR does have one big drawback for me, it lacks failover to transfer calls to another number when the network or gizmo are off-line (which has already been an issue).

So good install, however, attempting to do a line number port of my Packet 8 number to SunRocket hasn't gone so well. SR won't transfer a number unless you are in the same rate center. While they claim this is outside their control, I see enough discussion in the forums to indicate most other VOIP providers don't have this issue. So per some threads, I attempted to change my service address back to the original address. Well, its taken 3 weeks, numerous emails, calls, and threat to cancel two days ago just to get the address changed correctly, now it will likely take another 3 weeks to hopefully get the LNP completed. So I'm already 5 weeks in and I'm still having to maintain the P8 line until the port is completed, so much for the savings.

Packet8 has their act so much better together on the ability to deal with E911, allowing multiple addresses and provisioning that happens much more quickly. You can switch between E911 locations easily. P8 & ViaTalk both have Simultaneous Ring, which is a feature I desire.

I have already experienced downtime with SR.

Sound Quality on SR is very good and loud, exceeds the quality of Packet8 on the same ISP line. P8 line quality for me went downhill after they locked up their VOIP device so that you could not select codecs a year or so ago.

If I had it to do over, I would have gone with ViaTalk and accepted the 14 day & 50% rebate later program. The fact that ViaTalk executives frequent BBR and openly request features/enhancements is a good sign to me of a company that is interested in surviving and providing good product. VT also has indicated they would have no problem doing an LNP across rate centers in Los Angeles. ViaTalk also appears to use the TimeWarner RoadRunner backbone, which is my ISP and seems to have excellent ping times.

Packet 8 won't survive unless they meet the competition on price. With Vonage now meeting the $199/year offers by SR & VT, Packet8 won't have a chance. I have no grips whatsoever with P8, but price competitiveness & the 1.99+1.50 fees drove me away.

    Update 10-10-06

I'm now 4 months into my service and still do not have the Line Number Ports completed. What's worse? Six days ago they began a Port and the number I am porting has been disconnected and responding "number is not in service" for 6 full days. My initial call to a CSR resulted in no ticket even being logged to the provisioning group. So it took 3 full months to get the port started, and now after paying for both services for 4 months, I'm left with my number not ringing anywhere for 6 days and callers being told its out of service. The Pops on the line persist. I am certainly no longer recommending the service, but have to keep it hoping they'll someday complete the provisioning of the number. My scores have been dramatically lowered.

    Update 10-19-06

14 days now with Line Number Port still in progress and number still out of service. SR says I have to wait until 10/21 which is the last day that Packet 8 has to release the number. Well I called P8, they have no record ever of an LNP request, and they will very willingly allow the number to port, but can't do anything about its having been saying 'out of service' for the past 14 days since it is not under their control. SR finally received the email I sent to member services from a week ago and responded they were adding it to the queue, fortunately I also called them (but to no avail either). DO NOT ATTEMPT A LINE TRANSFER WITH SR if you need your number.

    Update 8-17-07

Well SR is out of business now. I've obtained a GrandCentral number, ported my number of 22 years to a TMobile ToGo Prepaid service with a Voice Mail to call the GrandCentral number, and signed up for Net2Phone primarily for outbound calls.

I started with SunRocket a few months ago when their market was limited to the Metro DC area. I have found their product to be excellent and their company to be very responsive to customer service at every level.

After a month or so I decided to port my Verizon number to SunRocket and have been satisfied ever since!

Prior to using SunRocket I used both VoicePulse and Packet8. I liked VoicePulse because of call quality, I liked Packet8 because of price. SunRocket combines the best of both worlds (voice quality and price) and throws in fantastic customer service as well!

Of course, as with any new company (especially in the VoIP realm) I have experienced some of SunRocket's "growing pains"... but my expectations are adjusted to give them "a little grace" as they continue to grow.

fyi... My ISP is Comcast and my connection is nothing fancy... 3000 down, 384 up. But... even with the limited upload speed, SunRocket sounds great to parties on both sides of the conversation!
