TWC came and hooked up my digital phone service, made all the jacks in my house active so I could use all my existing phones.
Gave me a choice of which cable modem I wanted, I choose a WebSTAR.
From what I hear, E911 works fine, but I haven't tested it myself.
Call quality is Excellent, better than my regular phone service.
Could be cheaper, will probably switch to Vonage or Lingo once their call quality and reliablity is rated "excellent" by a majority. For now I'm happy, but if TWC lowers their price, I'll stick with them.
Customer service is great, if you have a problem with your voice line they'll come out the SAME DAY and fix you up.
Website is cool, you can see all your calls made for the monthly history.
Oh yeah, and I kept my original phone number I had with Sprint.
Hmm, that's all folks, great service, just could be cheaper.
Hey, ANYTHING is better than Sprint, right???

| time warner in north texas, the worst in the WORLD Garland Texas...12/27/07...highest speed achieved 32Kbps on a 7 meg line...had appointment for a tech to come out, he called 2 times, I was on my phone both times doing other business, but was at my residence, the tech closed the trouble call because I wasnt home (I took the day off work to be there) funny, everytime you call their customer service, you will be on hold for like 5 minutes each time, but they cant make more than 2 10 second calls???? I am fed up, this company has ZERO customer service, both in quality and quantity...I have had this problem on and off since february...just say NO to crappy internet/customer service, dont call TIME WARNER they suck!!!
did I forget to mention that the place the service trucks leave from is LESS THAN 3 miles from my house???
did I forget to mention that I had to cancel the Voip service because the noise on the line was so bad anyone that called me hung up and called my cell number instead???
did I forget to mention that they sent out 5 different "technicians" (I use that term VERY loosely) to my residence between february and april for this problem and it never got fixed until I cancelled the phone service??? and now in november its back down to 35Kbps??? and they cancel a dang service call because I dont answer my phone on demand....screw time warner cable!!! | |

This service is good; it bundles VOIP (Motorola Surfboard SBV5220 with VOIP)with internet and cable for a discount, so I actually pay less than $44.95 for my internet. Installation was OK, but it took about three weeks for the appointment. Speeds are great for downloads (7 Mbps), but very slow for uploads (512 Kbps). I guess you really don't use upload speed as much, but I was used to having 2 Mbps at my old service.
All in all, no real complaints once the service was installed. Could use a faster upload.

I was an ex-Comcast digital phone customer that TWC took over. For 2-3 yrs, my monthly local bill was $32.65 (incl all taxes). 3 mnths ago, TWC converted me to VOIP and promised to charge me only 29.95 for an unlimited texas plan. However, after the promotional period of 3 mnths ended, they started charging me 39.95 (= ~48 after taxes). Many calls and emails have had no impact.
Needless to say, I'm dropping them immediately

I had digital phone service for the last two years with TWC. It wasn't until I changed my phone number through them that I got bombarded with telemarketing calls from the second or third day onward. This went on for weeks, although I had specifically requested an unlisted, non-published number at the time I placed the order. I also began receiving lots of junk mail addressed to me in those "welcome to the neighborhood" ad packets you get when you move to a new address although I have lived here five years. I have since found out that TWC is selling digital phone customers' new numbers to telemarketers. The calls were so numerous I actually turned off my ringer for a while. I made note of some of the numbers on my caller ID, and checked them out at »whocalled.us/lookup/8008452074?r=1. You can see by reading the comments at that webpage that I wasn't the only one affected by this! I felt that I had been sold-out by a company I trusted, so I decided to switch to another VOIP provider. I am much happier now, and the connection is actually better and at half the cost. I think what TWC did was very bad form. Oh, and as a final slap in the face, they had the unmitigated gall to charge me $7.95 for an unlisted, unpublished number!

UPDATE 4/22/07:
The service itself continues to be great no issues no outages, etc.; however, what is annoying is that each area is not on the same page as far as benefits and features and NYC is getting shafted in this area. TWC offers different / more benefits to other areas of the state, such as free voicemail (3.95 per month for me), highly discounted introductory pricing (I was lucky to get the 2 month free offer and had to fight for THAT).
Customer service sucks as they are not knowledgeable of their products and services. It is a waste of time calling them as they roll over and play dead when you ask them about services in other areas. UUUUGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
UPDATE 3/24/07:
Digital Phone must have read my post about offering more calling features. They have just now offered FREE 3 way calling, a bit long overdue, but nevertheless I am glad it is here and not offered for an additional charge. With Verizon you definitely had to pay for the service, 4.00 per month depending on the package have w/them.
UPDATE: 3/20/07
I have since discontinued the monthly unlisted service for 2.50 as I am not even sure that they even publish phone numbers; might be one of those bogus charges like what POTS charges.
Customer service is OK, kinda, except you have to call a few times before you actually get your request handled. For example I had to call twice in order for them to remove the monthly charge for the unlisting. It depends on who you get on the line when you call. In order to get the 2 months service credit on my bill, I had to call several times and spoke to several different people and departments. I did not give up as I was going to get my 2 months service credit, LOL. OR, it would have been a formal letter to their complaints department and then I will get a 6 month credit instead, this has happened to me; however, I will write about that later in a TWCTV review, LMAOOOO. I finally got one good customer service representative who credited my account right away. They were claiming that was not eligible for the discount as I didn't actually subscribe to the service online. I did, they send me an email stating that someone would call me back to handle my order - that's not subscribing online. So, I called customer service directly to sign up. AND, their was nothing on the site that stated that you must order online to qualify for the 2 month credit (now it does and it still is vague to me). I would have been happy to complete the order online, in fact, I would have preferred it. I made changes to my Verizon account online when I was moving 2 years ago, just followed up w/a phone call later to confirm and it was fine. The TWC website is horrible as their information is not up to date, not user friendly, you cannot send them an email message for service on it as you get an error message stating that they are looking into the problem, and you have to call them directly for any little change you want to make on your account. And I have mentioned to customer service that their website is not up to date and they just had a nonchalant attitude about it, too much!!!!
The service is great, I have not had any issues. I did call about the bit of feedback on the phone, of course nothing can be done. It is very slight and sometimes not there at all, it could be me looking for flaws, nothing to worry about though if you are considering DP. The overall call quality is great, sometimes better than POTS. The caller id doesn't always work but could be my phone, who knows. I just wish they had more features such as free voicemail w/the email notification feature, 3 way calling, etc. Brighthouse DP HAS free voicemail and 3 way calling, I need to make another call and ask about THAT!!!! I guess they think NYers are rich or something. We always pay more for everything. This division of TWC services FL and other states.
DP is a little pricier than other VoIP providers (actually now w/triple pay it is $33.91 - advertised price is $39.95 per month); however, I have not had any startup issues, I think I may have lost a call or two in the begining. The service works w/my alarm system which was a major concern and one of the reasons for not getting this sooner. Damn, I could have saved some money on the taxes for a bit until they decided to charge them in 07. Sales people told me there would be very little taxes paid and specifically asked them about this. They mentioned the E911 fee and a 3.00 sales tax added, NOT. It is still cheaper than the POTS line as I pay less for taxes and fees.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:
The $149.05 is TWC's triple play packages which includes digital cable service (minus premium channels - I have HBO and Showtime for 19.95), digital phone +3.95 per month for voicemail, and road runner standard service along with applicable NYC, NYS taxes and 911 fees.
The reason I made the switch from Verizon to TWC Digital Phone service was due to the fact that I was fed up w/Verizon and their exorbitant fees and taxes!!! I was up to $65.79 per month for the Verizon Freedom Essentials package for 39.99 (unlimited calling to the US and PR). I originally signed up for the service when it was 34.99; it was $5.00 cheaper for me since I have Verizon wireless. It was a "good deal" at the time since I was on their regional plan for the same amount. A few months later the price of all their packages went up $5.00!!! I was still receiving my multiple services discount; however, if I were not a wireless customer the package would have cost me 44.99 per month, too much!! PLUS TAXES AND FEES!! AND 2 months free service from TWC wasn't too shabby either, LOL!!
The reason I didn't make the switch from Verizon to VoIP sooner is that I was too chicken to experience any potential drama with switching phone services and was worried about compatibility with my alarm system. It had only become available in my area since last year anyway. Sprint once offered inexpensive local and long distance phone service (or maybe they still do) and all the features were not available at the time the phone service was in place (had to wait 2 weeks) such as caller id, etc. I immediately switched back to Verizon like w/in 2 days.
I have had the service for over a month now, digital phone was installed on 1/20. Installation was OK, the tech guy took a while to install as he or customer service mixed up the serial numbers on the new modem ... who knows (uugghhh). All he did was replace my old modem, install a phone jack, hook up the cable wire, ethernet, and phone wire (not sure what it is called) to the modem. My old verizon number was ported seamlessly which was a pleasant surprise. I thought I was going to experience drama with that and have to get a new number. Once the modem was finally installed my phone service worked immediately, all features, caller id, call waiting id, call waiting, etc.
My long distance call quality actually got BETTER!!! I called a friend in CT and he noticed the difference right away w/out me even mentioning my new phone service. Local call quality is about the same as Verizon. Occasionally, at night, I do hear a bit of feedback when the phone is ringing on the other end before the person picks up to talk, very slight, not bothersome though. I will have to call tech support to see what's going on. No issues with dropped calls and such so far, occasionally the caller id does not work; I am not sure if it is my phone or the service. I don't have a special VoIP phone just my vtech fancy silver phone, their newest model. No issues w/using the internet while talking whatsoever; I think they actually gave me more "juice" the web seems faster for some reason - shhhhhh, LOL.
Digital Phone only offers basic call features, such as caller id, call waiting id, call waiting, speed dial, call forwarding, plus the *82 type features (no *69 - I don't use it anyway). Voicemail is $3.95 8-(. You can view your long distance calls on the web. You can call all 50 US states, US territories such as the USVI, Marshall Islands, Guam, PR, and Canada - don't know anyone in these countries but I can call there for free, LOL.
Will provide additional information on customer service soon.

I use to be a SunRocket customer last year and when I experienced bad customer support, and tech support response from them I decided to go with Time Warner Digital Phone service. They advertise on their website that E-911 is offered to their customers. I decided to give that a test today after several months of service from them link is below. »www.timewarnercable.com/elpaso/p···anced911 I dialed 911 and got the local 911 dispatcher which was a good sign at first, I explained to them I was testing out to see if my name, number, and address was being recorded on their side and he told me he didn't see any of them on his side, I was shocked and angry at the same time.
I called Time Warner's Digital Phone tech support by dialing 611 right after hanging up with 911 and told them what had happened. He asked for my number and put me on hold for 30MINS before getting an answer, which is one thing about tech support I hate here locally with Time Warner, the wait time is a lengthy one even for activating or de-activating a feature on my line. He said that he contacted Sprint who routes E-911 calls for Time Warner's Digital Phone customers locally, I can't vouch if it is for all clients in every state they offer the Digital Phone service, but here locally in my town Sprint routes the call to the E-911 center according to Time Warner's Digital Phone tech support.
Moving on, tech support came back on the phone telling me that Sprint informed him they did see my number dialing out to 911 on their side. He said that Sprint had to refresh something on their side and tech support locally told me he had to reboot my modem which is what they do for every petty little call that I call in for.
It took me over one month of calling in to get my international calling activated the first time. Time Warner does not offer a web based management tool like other VOIP companies do, which is gearing me towards looking else where again. I have not tried calling back 911 since, but will give Time Warner the benefit of the doubt and wait 24 hours to see if it really helped by calling 911 again.
I went with Time Warner thinking it would be a better choice since they are local, but it has been a up and down with them. I think for paying so much for their Digital Phone service it should be top notch on the list of providers out there. I pay Time Warner twice more for their service and the least they could offer is the ability to log onto a web management tool and let me be more in control of my features. I have been calling Time Warner's tech support for the past two months telling them I cannot log into my on line account to view my call logs which is about all they offer online, and they keep telling me that they need to contact Austin TX, tech support said they would call me back and I am still waiting now going on three months. Every time I try to log into my account it says the number is disconnected and I have been with Time Warner's Digital Phone service since March of 2006, I am glad I have kept my cell phone in case of a real emergency.
I have tried SR, and Vonage which by the way Vonage cannot port my number and does not offer my local area code. I have been looking at Via-Talk and VoicePluse from reading other users comments on here and they seem like my best choice if I should switch from Time Warner. Via-Talk however has a cap on how much minutes I can use in one month for a residential line and that's a minus for me because I have a teenager who can talk her head off on the phone.
I have looked on VociePluse's website and haven't found anything stating they have a cap on minutes usage. They both support " BYOD " which I think is great. I have family in Puerto Rico and none of them offer unlimited calling to the island, but Time Warner does.Time Warner's international rates are much higher compared to others. I will post an update as to how the E-911 call goes and if the dispatcher was able to get my address, number, and name.
I would appreciate any feedback on experiences with other VOIP providers that others have had so I can decide who to try next. Thanks in advance, and thanks to DSL Report for hosting a great site like this one.

We originally got Time Warner DP back around January. It was about a full 2 weeks from order to installation. Original POTS number was ported over and kept available right up until the day DP was installed. All handled painlessly by Time Warner. Installation was a breeze and the installer was very friendly.
To this day, it has been running flawlessly and we have probably only had one case of MINOR downtime which was like a 'wee hours of the morning' case. Voice quality has been great. And considering the technical advantages it has over standard VoIP, I have yet to have a SINGLE case of any internet routing or download/upload saturation cause any problems with phone service (technical advantage of cable based phone services. Never gets anywhere near the internet connection.)
Highly recommended /IF/ your local franchise is a competent one.
