$30 per month about 3 days "Easy to install, like the online setup" "Accnt Mgmnt Website Slow" "Jury is out, but so far so good"
| Web-site: Ease of Installation: Call Quality: Tech Support:
|
Everything still good, no problems, fax out, receive faxes, make calls, no problems, I did have the temporary number showing up instead of my porting, sent an email and it was fixed same day...
OK, have Verizon Fios and Verizon POTS on two lines. Price of additional line is expensive, so I thought I would give Voicewing a try on the additional line. I have a Vonage line also. Why don't you go with them you ask? Well, they have been OK, but the quality is iffiy sometimes, and I'm adventurous, so why the heck not. And before I start getting replies about who to get, Sunrocket, blah, blah, etc. I know about all the providers and I have read all the reviews, good and bad.
Ordered online, TA shows up two days later. Go online follow the setup instructions, enter the MAC address. Instant dial tone. Make some test calls, and they are great. Only thing is the volume is loud both on the receiver volume and the other party's receiver volume. Causes a little echo, but the the actual voice quality is better than my Vonage line. I did call Customer service and they took down the volume on the TA, which has cut the echo.
There was also a problem with the online request to port the number and I had to fax the request in.
Both calls to customer service were answered immediately, and the reps appeared to be friendly, and knowledgeable, but I didn't have a major problem. Certainly better than Vonage reps for the limited times I've contacted them.
I've had a week with no problems that people have described, but the jury is still out long term. I'll update as I go along.
Here's my take on VOIP. Don't get rid of POTS for a main line, don't try and port a very important number, don't get married to a phone #, don't expect great quality and reliability, don't expect great customer service, expect periodic glitches and outages, expect cheaper service in general, and cheap long distance.
Why?
Relatively new technology, providers struggling to make it financially, dependant on quality of users ISP (which probably causes most problems). Know what you are getting into and don't cry about it.
OK been a couple of weeks. My line was ported within 10 days, no problems. So far people have been telling me sound quality is better than my Vonage line on their end. On my end, it's much better than Vonage quality wise.
The website is slow, but not painstakingly so, and I'm hard to please.
I did import my contacts from outlook into the directory, what a cool feature.
Maybe I'm just lucky, but other than the need to resend my transfer request, it couldn't be any better so far.

First of all I do hate the website. its soooo slow. However, the service overall has been good since I called and complained about choppiness. They sent out a new configuration change and since things have been smooth. The main complaint I have other then the slow website is that I wish numbers programmed in your contacts would show up on the caller id with the actual name in the contact list rather then "cell phone" or something similar like SunRocket does.

I had Voice Wing for 4 months and they could not get it to work properly. When we made a phone call it would sound like every thing was normal, you would get a dial tone then hear the phone appear to be ringing and then silence. The people you were calling would hear their phone ring but when they picked it up no one was there. Then you could immediately redial and everything was normal, for this one call.
But wait 5 minutes and the phone was broken again, like it was going to sleep.
I called service repeatedly and they tried something different each time but phone would still not work, they finally gave up and said they were handing it over to the engineers.
This problem was not a sometimes thing it was everyday. I had to cancel and go to vonage which has worked perfectly from day one.
So sometimes life hands you a bad deal so I forgot about it and went about my business, now is when voicewing begins to really suck. They didn't stop billing me ! I had to call several times because as you have read customer service is very rude and I think they represent the type of company they are working for.
When I asked how they could charge to a phone number they no longer owned because it now belonged to Vonage that got their attention and they refunded the last months overcharge.
Not over yet ! Got my credit card statement today and they have charged an early termination fee of 39.00 even tho it was their fault it was terminated. When I asked to speak to a supervisor I was rudely told none were available.
I told the representative that I was going to challange the charge on my credit card and she laughed and me and said "o.k. good luck on that". This email will also be sent to the Texas PUC. If you sign up with voicewing after reading these reviews you will hate yourself if you ever have a problem.

This is not a review of Voicewing since I never actually had the chance to activate my service but it should be useful to those considering it. One word of advice. DON'T!
I placed my order online on January 6th, receiving a confirmation email stating that it would take a few days for them to ensure I could get e911 at my location which should be a no brainer since I already have CallVantage VOIP at my location.
On January 9th, I rec'd a confirmation email stating that my order was processed and placed and that I would receive my adapter in 5-7 business days. I again rec'd an email on Jan 10th, stating the same thing. On January 19th (the 8th business day since my order confirmation), I rec'd an email stating:
"Our system shows you have not yet taken advantage of your Verizon VoiceWing Broadband Phone Service. Please review the information below to get started and get ready to experience VoiceWing and experience a new way to communicate!"
No kidding...because I have yet to receive the adapter. So I call the customer service line and after 5 minutes of searching for my account, the rep states that she sees my order but needs to check into why I have not rec'd the adapter. On hold for another 5 minutes and she comes back to state that my order wasn't properly processed and never shipped. She says she can replace my order and I'll have it in 2-3 business days. At this point, it's not worth waiting...perhaps if she said she would overnight since IT WAS THEIR MISTAKE, I might have been inclined to give them another chance. Instead, I asked her to cancel my service and ensure me that I would not be charged anything since they never actually sent my order. She proceeds to tell me that I won't be charged (after putting me on hold for another 5 minutes) for the service since I am in the 30 day cancellation grace period (how nice, considering I never had the chance to actually use the service since I had no adapter) but that she couldn't waive the shipping fee.
Huh?
Her logic was that since the order had been placed, they couldn't waive the ship charge without "escalating" the matter. My logic is that since they never shipped the order and she in fact admitted it would never have been shipped since the order was not properly keyed into their system is that there is no way I should have to escalate anything...you can't charge me for a service you haven't provided. Can you imagine buying something from Amazon and prior to the order being shipped, you cancel it but they still want to charge you shipping or at the very least put you some ridiculous escalation process?
At this point, I asked to speak to a supervisor, since I want to resolve the issue now and want written confirmation that I will not be charged a dime by these clowns. One Danelle Dyer gets on the phone, representing herself as a supervisor. She pretty much gives me the same explanation but adds that since they have no way of verifying whether my order shipped, they have to escalate the matter. But wait, didn't the rep I just spoke with state that the order never shipped due to their fault? Yes but according to Danelle, they still can't credit the shipping charge and that she will escalate the matter, if I would like her to. Uh, yes, but I'd actually like to talk to someone who can actually do something about it NOW. Sorry, but that's all she can offer me.
Are they kidding? This is how they run a business? I originally was thinking about going to Voicewing since I have had some many issues with CV since I had FIOS TV installed. I have come to find out that the Voicewing group isn't remotely connected to the FIOS group and that basically, they are a joke.
If you are considering Voicewing, DON'T. EVER.

Currently a Verizon Voice Wing customer but I am not happy. I just figured out that they have been ripping me off via this "Extra Services" recharge account to the tune of an extra $30.00 in the last 4 months of service.
If your credit card expires as mine did or you are not on the "account white list as they put it." they tap into this account by switching you to a "pay per minute plan" I cant find any information about that in the terms of service. This is how they drain the money from that fund. When it's empty your account gets shut off. You call and they "claim" they tried to contact you - Not in the call logs Voice Wing...sorry your lying. Then they presume to tell you that an email was sent and you must have us in your email contact list to get our email. Hunh?? I get all other email just fine.
The web site for the call manager is painfully slow. 5-10 seconds between clicks. It is difficult to find where to change simple things like your voice mail pin. Its not listed as an option under the tab "voice mail" . Other items like you account number that they persist in requiring every time you call is not on the main page.
Simply put, they have more reasons for causing you service outages based on unknown rules that you will be calling them constantly to get your service re-activated.
Total customer no-service. Refunds or credits to your account??? Forget it. They will take your money and run.

Switched over from a regular (verizon) line, to save some bucks.
The installation was somewhat painful. The connection wouldn't work out of the box, which turned out to be related to the fact that it was routed through two NAT devices (router and modem), which it doesn't like. I was on the phone with tech support for about two hours, during which the tech's instructions brought the device in a locked up state such that it had to be exchanged.
More importantly however, most of the time the quality has been poor (I am running on 1500/512 Verizon DSL), to the point that it is impossible to have a decent conversation (or send a fax). It sounds like talking on a cell phone with a poor connection (blocks dropping out etc.). I called once to complain, at which time they adjusted the volume. This seemed to improve matters, but recently, the problem seems to have resurfaced.
I am now running Vonage over the same DSL connection with a _much_ better quality. Installation was plug-n-play. The other thing about Vonage is that you can get somebody on the line pretty much any time of the day (and weekends). My two experiences with Vonage tech support (at my work) have been very good.

$24 per month "Easy installation" "Service was down for days!" "I fired Voicewing - I'm going back to POTS until VOIP improves"

Wow - what can I say..
Verizon's Voicewing VOIP service nationwide has been essentially down for 3-4 days now. Users can't receive incoming calls. Automatic voice mail is also down. And their Personal Account Manager (PAM) is down too. In fact, their entire website was down for quite a while, and is operating at about 10% functionality now. I noticed the problem Saturday afternoon, but couldn't get through to their "customer support" on the weekend. They didn't even know they had a problem until this morning when they showed up to work (that's what they told me over the phone, believe it or not). Their subscriber web page actually had the following posted in red blinking letters: Attention: We are aware of the current Voice Mail and PAM feature outage and are working diligently to restore the services. Additionally, some of our customers may be experiencing problems with receiving inbound calls. We apologize for any inconvenience this may be causing. When I could get through on my cell phone, they told me there was no ETA... Well, it finally came back up today - 4 days later.
I sure hope they fire somebody over this crap.
By the way, it took 75 minutes with Verizon on the phone to get my POTS back. The folks I talked with didn't even know what Voicewing was. It's obvious that VZ is not "one company" internally. I do love their FIOS internet service (I have 15/2), but after this, I'll avoid their new TV service at all costs.
Oh yeah - their website stinks too. Looks like it was coded by kids in elementary school.
STAY AWAY FROM VOICEWING.
THINK - IF YOU NEED TO CALL 911 YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO.
THINK - IF THERE IS A FAMILY EMERGENCY AND SOMEBODY NEEDS TO CONTACT YOU, THEY WILL GET A "This number is currently out of service" MESSAGE.
THINK - YOUR PHONE IS ALSO A SAFETY DEVICE - IS IT WORTH YOUR FAMILY'S SAFETY?
STAY AWAY FROM VOICEWING.

I ordered service about 6 weeks ago. Because my home was newly built, they had trouble getting or finding the address in the E911 database. After 2 weeks, it was straightened out. Other than that, the TA arrived quickly and was a snap to setup. One thing I like is that they answer their phone for support and billing issues very quickly. Tech support isn't always very helpful, and getting to 2nd or 3rd level support for issues is impossible. First level acts as a go-between, and often doesn't ask the right questions or simply passes along erroneous information.
The feature set is comparable to other VoIP services. The only complaint is the web site. It is slow and and sometimes doesn't work properly when using it to update features like call forwarding.
In the past six weeks, I have twice had service interruptions. Both occurred over the weekend, and they don't have any support available on Sundays. This has resulted in two days per occasion without phone service.
I have experimented in the past with both Vonage and ATT CallVantage service. Vonage wasn't nearly as unreliable as Voicewing, but the hold time for a CSR was terrible. I also didn't like that Vonage doesn't offer a call screening or anonymous call rejection feature, as does Voicewing and CallVantage. With Vonage, I often had to spend an hour on hold before getting help. CallVantage worked out the best for me. Had all the features and decent customer service (though they are closed on Sundays, too). They were more dependable than Voicewing. I would use CallVantage now, but the same problem with the E911 I had with Voicewing keeps CallVantage from giving me an account. They can't find my address!! At some point I would like to give Sunrocket a try, too. I need to replace this crummy Voicewing.

Greetings:
After ordering via Verizons website, the Voicewing/Linksys adapter showed up on my doorstep two days later. Cool. I quickly plugged it in and no dial tone.
I searched the web for answers and looked in the install documentation, added some holes to my routers firewall....still no dial tone. A call to Voicewing tech support and the device was still not working. It seems that port forwarding/open ports/firewall configuration is not exactly what Verizon OR others online say it is. After looking at the .LOG file of my router and seeing outgoing/incoming connections being blocked on ENTIRELY different ports then what was mentioned, I opened THOSE ports and dial tone could be had.
Everyone starts off with a "fake" phone number, assigned when they sign up, I used the phone to call everyone I knew that was local/long distance from me. Great call quality. Most people reported that I sounded like I was right there with them. Rarely did someone mention that I had the classic "voip echo" that plagues many.
Now it was time to dive in and play around with the thing.
Forgetting for the moment that ANY/EVERY CHEAP "answering machine" comes with a "quick reference card" along with detailed instructions outlining the CODES that one could enter on the phone to turn features on/off, set password, voice greeting and the like, the Voicewing phone has NO SUCH DOCUMENTATION AT ALL. After searching high and low on their website, I finally had to CALL CUSTOMER SERVICE to find out what my default password was !! You have got to be kidding!!!
I finally got my greetings set and my password set on the phone.
Then the real fun started.
Their website is VERY FLASH intense and appears to run on a 4Mhz 8086. So slow that it is mostly unuseable in itself without taking into account that the 'feature manager' and many other website items are just plain broken:
1. Login to the website and be greeted every day that you have new calls that day. No matter if you actually have "new calls" or "new voice mail" or not. Alarming to say the least. Was there actually a call that I missed? Where did that 'new' voicemail go?
2. The caller ID on my phone will register calls where the Voicewing call log will say "unavailable". If the ID was available to be sent to my phone, why is it not in the .log??
3. For those calls that do log a number and not a name, you can REVERSE LOOKUP these numbers and sometimes get a name, HOWEVER you have to write the information down BY HAND as there is no option to COPY this information to your address book and the use of FLASH prevents you from doing copy/paste with Windows commands.
(forgetting for the moment that an automatic reverse lookup with an option to add to the address book would be ideal)
4. The address book insists on listing people LAST, FIRST instead of FIRST name LAST NAME.
5. Did I mention the "feature manager" ??
While this appears to of been broken before I signed up and has been for 2 months (and Voicewing Techsupport says there is NO ETA on it being fixed).
Forget setting "anonymous call rejection", it won't let you set it. (or most of the other "features".
The "feature scheduler" has problems scheduling: events that happen on the same day that it is being entered (must be in the future) and events that go past midnight or even worse, go from one month to the next. (11/30/06-12/1/06 is a no-no while 12/1/06-12/2/06 works)
While the "scheduler" appears to be a cool thing, events can't be layered: I'd like to: Call forward if no answer in 5 rings OR if busy. Can't be done.
Call forwarding negates the already non-fuctional "anonymous call rejection".
In conclusion, would I recommend this "service" to others? No.
When tech support is asked when these features might be fixed and would we be getting credit while all the above is broken, the stock answer is: as long as you have a dial tone, your service is working. These extra "features" are NOT part of your service, we give them to you free.
Add to that the now seemingly industry standard of "LIMITED UNLIMITED" IE: 5000 minutes, I'm looking for another provider.
Stay away from "voicewing".

I moved over from Vonage as I was having problem with Verizon FIOS router (actiontec) and the Vonage Cisco ATA.
After install it did not work and I had to call Tech surport. They said they are having problem with the Verizon FIOS Actiontec router and voicewing.
That is just very poor planning on the part of Voicewing and Verizon.
They said I needed to put the Linksys PAP in the DMZ on the router. This was done and it still is not working that great at all.
I'm still waiting on if they can port over my Vonage number. Most people say it can not be ported over but hey you never know.
I will update as I know more and if they can fix the problem.
