10/18/2009So, I have had the service for about 5+ years I guess, and it works flawlessly. I would comment on how quick tech support is to respond; however, I never need them. My mom and a few of my friends have the service now and also are quite pleased. It would be nice to see some updated features, etc.; however, I am happy with what I have.

If you are trying to decide what to go with... Get VoicePulse. If you want a free month of service, msg me and I will gladly refer you. I still have my SPA-2100 but I think they are going with newer devices now. I have no need for a landline because they are full E911 compliant. I also have my mobile (just in case the power goes out).

    -----------------------
    Previous posts:
    -----------------------

I ordered my SPA2000 from voxilla and did second day. It shipped same day and it took voiceuplse about 18 hours to provision my account... Maybe less after signing up for it. You have to wait until you get your device to set your account on VP up. I am really happy with my decision to get service with VP, I only wish they had LNP. They told me it would be a couple months before they start, but they are going to offer it in the near future. And you can not beat the price!

    UPDATE
LNP (Local Number Portability) is in progress for my old line. It is not officially being offered, but they are doing it for me. VoicePulse seems to be growing fairly rapidly. I rarely have any issues, and the ones I do are usually ISP related. (The cable signal is not the best at certain times of the day... They are supposed to be fixing that.) The price is so good that I hardly even notice paying for it every month. I would recommend this to anyone.

    Another Update...
LNP took a little while but that was over a year ago... I am totally satisfied with the service. There is 911 coverage but not E911 in my area I guess; my cellphone offers E911 anyway and we have a wired line (my roomies company pays for that). I would recommend VP to anyone and actually have to several of my friends who are also satisfied. NO FAKE FEES/TAXES!!

Yet another... I never have any issues anymore, it is as reliable as VoIP can be. Which for me seems to be around 100%! It's cheap and has pretty much everything a person could think of.

I am back giving this company a try again and they have been perfect! Features are awesome. I am still doing BYOD since I already owned my equipment. I am using the unlimited local + 200 plan for $14.99 since most of the time we use our cell phones anyway. Recently, Comcast has developed an issue with the up link which used to be 5Mbps (I have the 22/5 service on DOCSIS 3.0) and now I am seeing only 512Kbps MAX. So, I lowered the bandwidth from max (64Kbps) to the next down, which is 40Kbps (G726-40) and it sounds as good as the higher bandwidth and is getting me through the downtime with Comcast (so, should I review Comcast? I will wait until after they fix this same problem yet again!). Skip Vonage and use VoicePulse is my honest opinion.

    ---

I tried these guys when I was considering abandoning my Viatalk line. These guys were almost exactly what I was looking for. Voice quality was perfect. They had a little issue getting me setup because their E911 verification vendor failed my address for some reason (no other provider has had that issue), but they resubmitted the next day and it was fine ... but the usual configuration emails didn't arrive [due to the exception I am sure]. Tech support was prompt and accurate and had me up and running in minutes .. all via online tickets. I did call them a couple of times and got either immediate answer or as long as a 10 minute hold time ... not too bad.

The only thing I did not like is that they make you reset your adapter (mine was a PAP2T-NA) and downgraded the firmware and took over line 1 provisioned and locked me out of the admin features. To their credit, the service worked flawlessly. THe ONLY reason I didn't stick with them was because the CEO of Viatalk came to the DSLReports forums and personally offered to remedy issues and he did, almost immediately, and I am prepaid until April 2009.

    Voicepulse -- HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

    2009
Had to visit VoicePulse website to see if I could block some annoying 800 telemarketers. I thought that I had the telemarketer feature turned on and do, but it doesn't block if the telemarketer provides a CallerID tag.
I was greeted by a redesigned website with easier navigation and was able to find the section to block specific numbers in a few clicks. Then used the search feature on calls received to narrow down my suspects and added the two offending telemarketers. They will now be greeted by a "line no longer in service" tone and message.

Thank you for making this task, that would be impossible/cost extra through traditional Bell companies easier.

    2008
I wasn't able to get a fax sent on a Samsung CLX-3175FN to successfully transmit over VoicePulse.

    (Original review from 2007)
After SunRocket burned out I needed to find another phone provider. I didn't want to go with either of the SunRocket "approved" phone suppliers. Instead I turned to BBR and looked at the rankings. At the time VoicePulse was #1 and so I went with them.

Ordering was pretty easy, just sign up on their website. Initial charge was $54.97 for activation fees and first month phone service. It took a while for the VoIP adapter to be shipped, but once received all I had to do was connect everything and it just worked and has been working since then.

Their website feels little "old", but it works and gets the job done.

    Features?????

"Doesn't have as many features as other providers"

    Huh?

Have you perused the website? Your user account?

Unlimited filters, Many ways to block calls or send them to voicemail. Voicemail notification. 99 speed dials. Custom Caller ID. Local calling includes all adjacent area codes. Do Not Disturb. Scheduled do not disturb. Call Forwarding. Automatic call forwarding if power goes out. Multi-ring. Distinctive ring. Anonymous call block. Telemarketer block. Caller ID block 411 block. seven digit dialing. Others.

How many features do you think is enough?

    Re: Features?????

I'll rephrase then. There are some features that are included on other providers that have fees at VoicePulse. For example absolute forwarding has this disclaimer on the my account section "Forwarded minutes on local calling plans will be 3.9¢ per minute."

This statement contradicts the "Call Forward is Free with VoicePulse" that their pre-sales literature states at »www.voicepulse.com/features/adva···ard.aspx

This feature was included with the SunRocket plan with no per minute charges. Another option that I had with SunRocket was the ability to record a custom voicemail greeting. That was a really nice feature VoicePulse gives a rather generic greeting that goes something like "Extension is unavailable. Please leave a message." Maybe there is a way to do this with VoicePulse, but I haven't found it (and yes, I have looked through their website.)

Don't get me wrong though, I'm happy with my price and would rather pay for call forwarding on the off chance that I actually need to use it than have a higher priced service. The call quality and reliability of VoicePulse are what make them top notch.

yes, Virginia, you can record out going voicemail

I read somewhere that forwarding is free with "Unlimited US" plan ($20/mo); but it costs with "Unlimited local" that you (and I) have.

However, on the occasions that I actually used this feature - there was no charge. Don't know, if it's a glitch in a billing system, or "underpromise - overdeliver" but who am I to argue

There is a way to set a personalized announcement on the voicemail - I know, because I have it But it was awhile since I set it up; so don't remember exactly.

I've been with them for a year and a half, and very happy. However, $10 more for open access seems excessive; and the web site is quite clumsy. Also, it would be nice if they allowed peering - they block both incoming and outgoing VoIP calls.

Just to be clear - they block IP (URI) calls. You can, of course call by the phone number... the old-fashioned way. But you can't, for example, call through SIPBroker or from FWD unless you have $10/mo extra "open access" plan. See »www.sipbroker.com/sipbroker/acti···itePages for example.

Jacksonville,Duval,FL
Contract price not specified.
"Sound Quality Acceptable"
"Took awhile for them to find my ATA, Spartan web portal"
"Acceptable Service"

Port of AT&T CV to VoicePulse. Purchased my own ATA (Linksys PAP). Placed order, got email confirmation, then.....nothing. Placed a call to VP customer service. Responsive, apparently I never got the BYO start email with the account info. Sent instantly with the port documentation and instructions.

Tech support is email only. So placing my PAP on the net, they couldn't locate it for several days. Finally placed it on raw net and they located it and started the service up.

Faxed over CV port info and after 48 hours I got a notice from VP that my port was complete. Call Vantage emailed me the following day with a "please port your number" request which I took to mean that the port was complete at their end now.

The DLink ATA for AT&T went amber the next day (offline) and I completed a 3 hour bridge on the VP service with no major issues.

Smaller issues....after being on a call for several hours I could count perhaps 2, maybe 3 clicks and pops that were voip related. All of the people on the listening end say the voice quality is excellent. I can't discern any voice quality differences between VP & AT&T which is a plus since that is what I liked about CV.

The AT&T web portal was much better than VoicePulse. VP is somewhat spartan. It wasn't at the top of my choice list, but it is not competitive IMHO. More to come as I use the service.

    Where are your scores?

You should rate them in the different categories(the little 1-10 rating system or whatever).

Also, you can call support directly using their customer service number. If you chose to contact them through the support portal, they typically call you back anyway.

I used AT&T CV as a beta tester and I recall the voice quality being exceptional compared to Vonage and even POTS. I also had Vonage at the time and could tell a difference between Vonage and AT&T CV, with AT&T being much better. I couldn't tell a difference between AT&T CV and VoicePulse though. Good luck, hopefully you won't have any more issues with your service...

    My Other Reviews·Verizon FIOS
Update: System again wants me to update...and still it's great!!

Update: System wants me to update my review well 3.3 years later and still going great!

Update: Still great reliable service, very rare to have an outage and the feature set is the best. Highly recomandable to anyone who can get it

Update: A year later and still rock solid...great service

Update: Just an update on my review, the service has been rock solid for months now and wanted to reflect that in my review.

    Nia

Ordered service in Oct 04, recieved the ATA within a week. Setup was quick and easy. Had some initial line problems that Techsupport was quick to help. There was the switch upgrades that made the service spotty around Thanksgiving but since then it's been rock solid.

Only have had one outage since then that was due to one of their routing partners.

I initially set this up in conjuntion to a land line, after a few weeks I ordered call forwarding on the land line and forwared it to VP. In Jan with the service showing itself to be nice and solid I started an LNP from Verizon to VP. It only took 2 weeks before the nunber was ported over and the old service was disconnected.

Nobody noticed the change in service besides the voice quality being better, my phone bills have become a nice predictable low amount. If I could get my wife to use the internet BigYellow for directory assistance my bills would be the same each month.

I went from about 60 dollars a month to under 20 a month, my wifes sister lives in the next town over from us, to Verizon that is a toll call, go figure, but with the larger area code coverage with VP people that are about 100 miles away can be local to me.

I'm very happy with the service and would recomend it to anyone.

I also have set up and told the folks in the family that in an emergancy to dial 91# for the local police or to use their cell phones, since we have 5 phones in the family that have E911 it's not a concern not to have it with VP.

My number one priority in seeking a VoIP provider to port my POTS landline to was quality. Second was price. Based on quality reviews and price comparison VoicePulse was the winner. And it was a great choice.

I chose the Local + 200 package, as 95 % of my calls are within the Metropolitan New York area, and it is unlimited with the plan priced at $14.95/month. The 200 long distance minutes included with that plan generally more than cover my usage for such.

The order for service went smooth. Although I considered accepting a device from VoicePulse, I happened to use my own device (PAP2T-NA) so I wouldn't need to return it upon discontinuing service (whenever that may occur; there is no commitments/contracts with VoicePulse.) I placed the order over the weekend, and received the instructions for service when there office opened the following Monday. (Somehow I hadn't received it via e-mail.)

After having the service for a few days, and noting it functioning well for both voice quality and service, I ported my wireline number from a CLEC (in a Verizon ILEC region). The port was completed precisely 7 days after requesting it from VoicePulse. And service thus far has been near landline quality.

8/31/09: All's well that runs well. Nothing but satisfaction with VP.

    My Other Reviews·AT&T CallVantage
9/12/2009 - Rock solid service so far.

8/13/2009 - About to be dumped by AT&T so I am giving VP another try. If everything goes well, I'll port my number over to them. So far so good. Call quality is as good as AT&T CallVantage which was excellent for 5 years.

All reviews below are from before 2005

Decided to try VoicePulse due to cheaper rates than Vonage and their offer of virtual number for Knoxville, TN. My current VOIP Vonage rates are higher and do not offer the Knoxville number.

Received it July 15th after ordering on Saturday July 10th. I plugged it into my LinkSys EW5Hub router at noon. It is working within seconds. I soon notice that some incoming calls are being forwarded straight to voicemail. I contact VP support via email and answer all their questions. I stopped working at 5pm and returned to my office at 10pm to find my Internet connections on both laptops stopped working and no dialtone on the VoicePulse phone. However my Vonage phone is working. After rebooting everything, still no Internet connections. I then go get my Linksys WRT54GS from downstairs and switch it out with the LinkSys EW5Hub. Now I get Internet connections on both laptops and the Vonage phone is still working. I reswitch the routers and still nothing works with the LinkSys EW5Hub but my Vonage phone (Cisco ATA 186). I reswitch again and now all work with the Linksys WRT54GS except the VP SPA 2000. I contact VP support to report the lack of dialtone.

Is it possible the SPA 2000 screwed up the LinkSys EW5Hub? It had worked perfectly for 2 years until today.

I've had Vonage for 11 months and found them very reliable. There were a few outages in the early months but have been flawless for the past 6 months. The Vonage call quality seemed better compared to the calls I made today with VP.

I plan to keep Vonage and VP for a month or two and terminate the worst of the two based on cost and quality. At this point Vonage is better by far. I'll keep everyone posted.

July 16th...8:44 PM - After corresponding with VP support about 6 times today, they decided to send me a new SPA 2000. I've got my VP number forwarded to my Vonage number which by the way has worked flawlessly. Vonage prices don't look so bad after 2 days with VoicePulse. If only Vonage would add coverage for Knoxville, then I'd stop looking around.

July 21st..10:15 AM - I received the replacement SPA 2000 and it is working. I made no changes to my router. I'm now waiting for VP to move my number from the old SPA to the new SPA 2000. The new SPA 2000 has a temporary NJ number. VP sent a prepaid UPS label so all I need to do is send the old SPA back in it's original box. I've made a few calls and the quality is good so far.

July 21st..3:30 PM - My number has been moved from my old SPA 2000 to the new one. Everything is working so far. The calls don't go straight to voicemail anymore.

July 25th 10:14 PM - I still have the problem every once in a while where the VP line won't take incoming calls and they get forwarded to the Line Unavailable number. I test this quite often with my POTS line. It's happened twice today where I call it mutiple times and the VP phone never rings....but I do receive emails from VP notifying me of the Line Unavailability. I was able to call out on the VP line so I know it is not dead. Also was able to receive calls on the Vonage line at the time VP wouldn't work. I sent an email to VP support but have not heard anything back. Once again, Vonage service is superior to VP service.

July 26th 11:03 AM - Received the following email from VP Tech Support and will test out their fix for the next 48 hours:

"We ran the trace all night and just finished taking a look at the data collected. There is something odd going on whenever your unit switches from one of our proxies to another (the switching itself is normal, and should be instantaneous). In this particular case, whenever your unit switches, there is a long period in between where it stops talking to one of our gateways, but doesn't begin talking to the new one -- and this is when your calls go to line unavailable forwarding.

We've made some changes to your unit's configuration to help us confirm our line of thinking. If we're on the right track, then you should not experience the problem at all over the next few days. We're going to leave your setup as it is for the next 48 hours, and would appreciate it if you could let us know if even a single call goes to line unavailable forwarding during that time."

July 30th - No problems since VP support changed the SPA configuration. The voice quality seems to be on par with Vonage or a POTs line. I am enjoying having the Knoxville virtual number. I've increased my ratings for VP based on the good tech support I received during my problem.

Oct 6th - I dropped Vonage and VoicePulse. Both were OK but I needed a very reliable service for my business line. I went with CallVantage and have not regretted it. The call quality is superior to Vonage and VoicePulse and the reliability has been 100% so far.

When we received notice that AT&T CallVCantage was going to cease operating come October '09, I looked into several options. VoicePulse seemed to be among those having the fewest complaints of any VoIP provider. As I did not want to bother getting my own ATA and having to configure it that ruled out some. Based on positive reviews and feedback, and few threads discussing problems with VoicePulse here on DSLReports.com, I made the move, ordering VoicePulse around June 15.

After connecting the Linksys PAP2T ATA and getting the service working ( I just plugged the ATA into the router and configured the router as their support site recommended), I then contacted them and arranged for LNP from CallVantage. Perhaps AT&T is slow due to the number of people they need to port elsewhere, or perhaps the delay was on the VoicePulse side, but it took a month to the day before my number was ported over. That was quite a bit longer than I had expected.

Everything worked well for a few weeks, then we started having problems with outgoing voice quality but on local calls only. I worked with the customer service people at VociePulse and we were constantly back and forth working to resolve the issue. Ultimately, after trying a few things on their side and me doing some things here, like testing with different routers, phones, cables, etc. we jointly came to the conclusion that it was more than likely jitter/latency related and I would contact my ISP (TWC).

Ultimately, TWC said that as long as I was not having a problem browsing the internet, they could not / would not be responsible for the "quality" of the internet connection as it affected the quality of third party VoIP services, so it was back to VoicePulse hoping there was something they could do. The last thing I wanted to do was go through the hassle and cost to switch internet and TV providers and I didn't want to switch to TWC digital phone due to what I perceive as a lack of concern on their part. Again, the determination to fix the problem was evident with VoicePulse and they have ultimately done some things on their end, perhaps even unique to us, to restore voice quality to the excellent level we enjoyed just after signing up with them.

The true measure of a company and its customer service is not when things are going good, but when there is a problem. The concern and determination to fix the problem were evident in every conversation with VoicePulse and they even followed up with me while I was working with my ISP to see how things were progressing on that end. VoicePulse has come through with flying colors and I recommend them to anyone for serious consideration if you are looking to use VoIP for the 1st time or are looking to replace your present provider.

Update (8/5/09): Still with Voicepulse and reasonably happy. (Very happy every time I see that small bill!) Sound quality has improved if anything (especially at the initial connection of the call - it used to be that the first 'hello' on our end was often not transmitted, this seems to have improved). I still have to reboot the ata every few months, and unfortunately the only sign of this is increased time to dial a call or someone tells us they can't reach us. The cheap ata is still home voip's Achilles heel.

Update (8/24/07): Back up and running. Fortunately this time the new ata was delivered in two days, and after scheduling the replacement on Monday, I had it on Wednesday. Here's hoping this ata has a longer lifespan than the first. (end update)

Update (8/20/07): Over the past month or so my service was going down every 5-7 days or so. It happened a couple of times, and each time rebooting the ata brought the line back immediately. Last week I was out of town for work when my girlfriend told me the line was down again. This time re-booting the ata wasn't bringing it back up. I called customer support and explained the issue. They were fairly convinced that the problem was with my router (despite the fact that the router config had not changed) and ran me through a variety of tests (triggering the sip ports, putting the ata in a DMZ, etc) As I was still not home, I couldn't physically connect the ata directly to the internet to take the router completely out of the equation. In any case I could monitor the logs on the router and clearly see that the router was NOT blocking any traffic. I was a bit frustrated that customer support was so convinced that it was a router config problem, and would not give me a technical reason why the ata would suddenly, out of the blue, need some new ports triggered to operate as normal, or for that matter, take my word that I could clearly see in the logs that it wasn't my router causing the problem. I arrived home on Friday night, but we were now past their M-F business hours for tech support. Monday morning I was able to speak to customer service again, and left the ata directly connected to the internet for the day so their techs would have access. I finally called back after work, and was informed that they are sending me a new ata (pap6) - but billing my credit card in the mean time. I am pleased that I have someone to talk to at tech support, and they are generally helpful, but unfortunately I'm having exactly the kind of experience that would prevent me from recommending voip for anyone not fairly computer and network literate (and willing to suffer down-time). At this point, IF the new ata ships on time (see original post for that if) and I get it before I leave town again, I'll have been down for 1.5 weeks. While helpful, customer service never apologized for the inconvenience, never offered compensation (I had to ask), and I'm being charged for the new ata that is being sent via normal shipping methods to me. Hopefully the new ata will last longer than the 6 months I got out of this one. It is surprising to me that these companies are willing to stake a large part of their reliability (and hence their reputation) on an inexpensive consumer level ata. The least they could have done was offer me direct sip access to my number (that I'm paying for!!) until they get me back online with an ata. (end update)

Other than the two weeks or so that it took them to get me my ATA from NJ to NY, and the month to transfer my existing number, my experience with VoicePulse has been excellent. When that ATA did finally arrive, all that was required was that I plug it in to my existing router and phone, and I was up and running. To be fair, I have it hooked into a good router with good QOS rules defined, but this is par for the course if you want to run voip.

Call quality has been excellent, 100% reliability in the several months we've had service, and the local + 200 plan at $17/month all-inclusive is much more reasonable for how we use this line than the $45/month Verizon was charging us.

On top of all this, the real reason to choose VoicePulse is their customer service. Unlike most other companies, you speak to someone who speaks clear english, and in fact, are generally assigned a case manager whom you always deal with (in my case with little or no wait) who is extremely responsive at knowing the details of your case and following up with you via telephone and email after every call. What a breath of fresh air that experience was!

    enthused as well

You are right; isn't that local + 200 plan great? And all the filters, the Do Not Disturb, the customizable caller ID, the 99 speed dials?

I agree that the website could use some work (you rated it 60%), but I like the simplicity because it loads fast! Not a lot of distracting, unnecessary graphics.

And no problems here either. When the charge to my cc bounced (b/c the card was reported lost), I got an email the next day advising me of the bounced charge, I called, and immediately got it straightened out by a friendly CS rep.

Hope you continue to be as pleased with VoicePulse as I am.

    My Other Reviews·Comcast
I have had VoicePulse for 2 weeks now. Here's my run down:
    1) Web site is not popcorn to the eyes but very well organized and extremely easy to use.
    2) Installation was a peice of cake. Able to use within minutes. Because VP puts you in the system before the device even arrives you can configure the voicemail, speed dial, filters etc. ahead of time. I also changed the settings on my router that they recommended before the device arrived.
    3) Call quality has been outstanding. Better then my pots line.
    4) Reliabilty: No problems so far.
    5) Haven't had a need for tech support so far but did send 2 emails with some basic questions which were answered very fast. They also have a tech support phone number now.
    6) Can't beat it. Had Talk America local plan for 19.99 a month plus the numerous charges and my bill averaged about 38 a month. Now I pay $15 for unlimited local and regional calls plus 200 minutes of long distance. One of the big voip companies I checked had only 1 extra area code for their regional plan. I have 6.

Their features are great and I've checked them all out except 3 way calling and conference calls, and they all work. I get a kick out of the filters. If someone calls that you do not want you can set up the phone so they always get a busy signal, an out of service message or even a recording from the rejection hotline, everytime they try to call again. There's also a feature that will block every number that is hidden with private or unavailable from ringing your phone. The caller is given the option of entering their number to continue. Outstanding features and these all work
One thing they were not offering at this time was LNP. But I liked the number they gave me so much I'm keeping it.
    The final word is excellent!

    Update 8/30/04
It's been a month now and all is wonderful. Everything I said in my original review stands. No problems. Has been flawless.

    update 03/31/05
Well I've been using VoicePulse for 8 months now and I have to say I like it more then I did since the last review.
The service has been excellent and extremely reliable. I forget that it's VOIP and not a pots line of which I cancelled 7 months ago.
All the features I use have worked flawlessly since day one.
Final word is still excellent and add outstanding!

    update 09/04/05
Had VoicePulse for over a year now and as happy as ever with it.
A few minor burps over the year but nothing major. Has been flawless and just as reliable as the pots line when I had it.
    Still recommend very highly.

    update 06/21/06
On 7/29/06 It will be 2 years since I first began using VoicePulse. As I said before I still couldn't be any happier with this service.
For 2 yrs. it has been almost flawless. The Features are still Outstanding, the sound qualities are awesome.
VoicePulse has been Fantastic for me!

    03/15/2008 Update:
Going on 4 years with VoicePulse now.
    Still running and working perfectly.
Have had better service and quality then I ever did with landline service.
    Still a Keeper.

    Update 08/01/2008

On 7/29, I have been using VoicePulse for 4 years now.
What can I say that hasn't been said prior?
Everything I said good about VP still stands.
    Call quality is extremely good.
Calling features are the best around.
My favorite is still the calling filters which allows me to block any individual number I so chose. From a constant busy signal to a number not in service or even the rejection hot line. Awesome!
I've had fun with this one and if you so desire you will be notified by e-mail that the number tried calling.
Call manager is another good one.
Check out their website for a complete list of features.
These run alot of money if purchased from AT@T for example.
I'll be with VoicePulse for another 4 years and beyond.
Thumbs up to VoicePulse and their staff.

    Update 07/31/2009

This past Wed., 07/29, I have been with VoicePulse for 5 years now.
I really have nothing to add to what I've said before.
Great service and excellent reliability is still the norm.

The one feature I am disappointed about is the lack now of e-mail responses if someone tried to call with a blocked number.
Their service department says they plan on putting back this feature.
    We shall see.

    Still a big thumbs up!!
