"No choice really, only DSL provider in the country"

Subscribed to the Streamyx 384/128 package. Been a subscriber for nearly 1 year now. Overall it has been a rough ride. More often than not, connection and latency has been bad, especially to overseas sites. Technical support staff are not well educated, as they do not know the meaning latency... I reported bad latency and I was told to change my DNS.

Since we do not have any other DSL alternatives, basically we are stuck with sucky TMnet Streamyx (more often it's Slowyx).

For those considering upgrading to the 512/128 package, don't. The international pipe is so congested that you will not gain much in speed.

A lot of people face a lot of problem subscribing to the service and complaint of poor tech support.

As for me, it was smooth sailing (almost), meaning that they kept all the promises which they made to me.

Basically having a monopoly is a good thing, for the company it's fairly obvious. But also for the users / customers as long as the company have good management and the government to keep an eye on it, this is because there is no problem about who control which part of the network and standards to use. Also no finger pointing when problem arises. We always know who to blame.

I''ve been using it for the past 5 months, and so far so good

Update: It's close to one year of using the service. No disconnection problem. No quality problem. I'm happy to save so much on the dialup charges when I move to Streamyx. Thank you.

Honestly, this isnt too bad of an ISP, considering the following facts:

    1. They are the only effective ISP that has expanded throughout the country.
    2. They have good ties with big corporations and government.
    3. Their mother company was formerly owned by the government.
    4. Their mother company is our sole last-mile telephone line provider.
    5. They hold and control probably the largest percentage of the Internet backbone infrastructure.

Having said the above, one would think that they have an abundance of financial resources at their disposal, considering their near-monopoly of both telephone and last-mile ADSL. However, looking at their performance thus far, they have a long way to improve.

Staff lacking technical skills is an understatement for this company. I have met many of its technicians in the Klang Valley area, and they are all wooden blocks with fixed carvings. They will do whatever they have been trained or told to do, and if trouble arises, they start pointing fingers at places the public cant access. Helpline should be rename as "HelpLESS", because much of the time their answers are the same:

"Sir, we will make a report for you and give you a report number, then you call back if anything, ok?"

The biggest irony of it all is that whenever they claim that they are doing some maintenance for improvement, the aftereffect doesnt really improve at all! Instead, occasionally they will foul up during the maintenance, causing the whole Internet users community to suffer due to their negligence.

However, despite many disappointing and unhappiness that has been said, written and published, this company isnt all too bad. After all, not many companies are willing to commit such large investment funds to rapidly expand ADSL coverage throughout the nation in a matter of ONE year. Bravo to TMnet for bringing ADSL here at the time when Malaysia was almost left behind. May this company strive to further improvise their service BEFORE continuing their expansion plans.

I am quite happy with my streamyx when i first installed it around Sept 2003... It;s quite stable and there is fast connection. After the Government Decreace the price for the Broadband Access.. the speed become unstable.. ie lagging etc.. maybe many ppl sign up the Broadband package after the price decreased... and the service become bad.... They are using "Upgrading / Infected with virus" as excuses for slow connection... Really BAD...
