Value for money:

I started out with this company when Aletia was a company unto itself. I purchased their 200MB "Super Deal" when I first signed on, which consisted of:

    200MB of storage space
    15GB of transfer
    Dedicated IP address
    Unlimited POP emails
    MySQL
    PHP 4.x
    Telnet/SSH access
    FTP

In the beginning, there were few problems. Servers routinely stayed online for weeks on end without so much as a hint of problems. The technical support was very courteous. This quickly changed once Aletia was taken over by JaguarPC.

Almost immediately a performance degradation was seen in the speed of the site, which could directly be attributed to their use of Yipes (www.yipes.com). It was also very common for them to have problems with constant DoS attacks and spam blacklisting As well, the servers would often only run for a few days before errant scripts or poorly constructed database queries would push load averages through the roof, sometimes spiking at 10.0+ for several hours or days at a time. It was almost as though they stopped monitoring the load averages on the servers. And its usually possible to see which process is causing the problem so you can email the exact PID, but JaguarPC started disabling key commands on the server whch prevented users from doing so. As well, their security precautions made it impossible to do any type of MySQL database work via the command line because they set the permissions on the MySQL socket all wrong. It wouldn't have been so bad since PHPMyAdmin is provided, but when PHPMyAdmin fails because of the way the server is set up, its very difficult to perform any type of maintenance on your databases.

One good thing though is that a month or two before I left with all but one of my sites, they raised the disk quotas for everyone by 100MB and I received a refund for a month when the server was down more often than not.

After a nearly a year with them, I've been forced to move all of my domains and sites from their servers to a new provider located at NAC in New York.

JaguarPC is a Great Host IMHO!

I've been with Jag since 2001. Personally I have found them to be a great host. JaguarPC was not my first host. Ive been online since 1999.

I remember when Jag purchased Aletia. There were a lot of problems. Jag did not create those problems. Jag inherited problems that Aletia was already having.

I base the above statement on a lot of forum post I have read by Aletia customers.

It took Jag a few months to get them worked out, but they did, and those who stayed are glad they did.

JaguarPC is not perfect but they work hard to take care of their customers. I can't recall how many times they have upgraded my plans, and basically I still paying the same thing I did back in 2001.

Personally I can't imagine being hosted anywhere else.
