Worse service I've ever had in my life. The dsl service keeps dropping =
multiple times a day. 2 techs have been out and say there's nothing =
wrong? Either ATT's service "stinks" or they have terrible techs, not =
sure. I would NEVER recommend ATT DSL as a service.

I got AT&T DSL when I moved into this house. It works and I am getting the speeds I am paying for. Not much more to say. I am happy.

I needed access at a vacation home and all the plans were $20+ a month and rated poorly by the locals. When I signed up at AT&T for my phone service (only game in town) they offered a $10 a month basic 384/168 plan for a yea. Given that what I mostly want to do is check email I jumped on the price even with a 12 month commitment.

When installed I had disconnects and was getting about 120 download, but over 300 upload. I contacted AT&T tech support and they said given the line quality and remoteness of the area (Olympic Valley, CA) that the plan offered did not cut it. They upgraded me with no questions to the 768k/384 plan immediately. I am now getting about 570/300 performance which is better than I expected. After all this is a weekend / vacation place.

The more amazing thing is that I have been a long term SBC critic. If the new AT&T can deliver this price performance consistently they just may have a long term customer.

Update: Upon receiving my first bill I find that they have charged me half the price of the modem for shipping. This was not disclosed and in calling them (SBC/AT&T), they refused to make any accommodations.

While I would sign up again, AT&T has not changed. Buy your equipment from Amazon. They have lost all the positive goodwill from me that their deal gained. I would still sign up as it is the only deal in town I will revert to my long standing distrust of AT&T/SBC.

Update 2: After 2 years they raised the price to $14.95. Still a deal. Bandwidth is ok. Webex , VOIP mostly work, Amazon and Netflix streaming do not work. May eventually upgrade for streaming and downgrade my Direct TV options in the winter.

Worst customer service EVER!
If you have ordered uverse and it has not been installed please read and save
yourself some headaches.

Here is our uverse story:
May 2011 two young fellows came into our neighborhood to sign people up for
uverse.
We declined.

July 2011 two different young fellows came into our neighborhood to sign people
up

for uverse.
Unfortunately my husband was at home unattended and was sucked in.

October 2011 we had a storm that knocked out our dish for an hour. I asked DH
what

ever happened to that uverse you signed up for. You see we never heard a word
after

signing up in July.

November 2011 I get a call from AT&T. "We have uverse in your area and would
like

to sign you up."
I work from home and could not talk. No problem she would call me back at 7pm.
She never called.

November 2011 (a week and a half later) I get a call from AT&T "We have uverse
in

your area and would like to sign you up."
This time I want to talk. I ask WTF happened to the two kids who were through
our

neighborhood. We filled out paperwork. Where is THAT order. Hmm not sure. I'll
check and call back.
No call back.

Three days later I get a call from AT&T "We have uverse in your area and would
like

to sign you up."
I reply, this is a joke, right? You must have camera's somewhere. I explain
about

the boys who sold it to DH, and I explain all the other calls to sell me. This
person actually finds the order. An install date is scheduled.

Install date today 12.14.11
Tech calls to say he is on the way.
10 minutes later we lose internet access.
Tech arrives. I ask what happened to my internet. He said he had to disconnect
our

DSL for the new service. So sorry.
He works for 2 hours back and forth to the attic, outside, all the rooms with
TVs.
Finally we have internet.
DH and I both work from home. Different companies. Neither of our office IP
phones

are working. Additionally the tech is having an issue with TV so he has to call
in

for support.
Support tells the tech that SERVICE IS NOT AVAILABLE IN THAT AREA. You need to
close that ticket.
Interesting. My neighbor (further from the CO than us) has uverse. Why would I
have

received so many solicitations for this service if it wasn't available? Better
yet,

why would you schedule and send a technician out to install uverse in an area
where

it isn't offered?
Now the real fun begins.
We have no internet. We both work from home. We spend 4 hours on the phone
trying

to find intelligent life at AT&T. They do not understand and are not able to
reconnect the DSL.
For now I am connected to the internet via my Blackberry tethered to my laptop.
A tech is supposed to be out tomorrow morning.
Any bets on whether we'll see that tech tomorrow or not?
If a tech does show and makes things right I will definately post an update.
Please

don't hold your breath. Blue is only attractive on smurfs.

funny

That's so funny. You left your husband home alone unattended. I love it. I always do those stupid things too when I'm left alone at home.

My Other Reviews

·DSL EXTREME
I actually had AT and T internet for several years. Cox Cable internet is the other option where I live, and most of my friends/ relatives, fellow geeks have Cox and swear by it's "lightning fast speeds" and swear by it's inherent superiority.

So I decided to try it for a few months.

My experience with COX was not horrible, but it did not live up to the hype. It even went out a couple of times (for about 20 minutes a stretch).

During the same time period, my mother's COX internet went out as well, hers for a few hours.

I got a call from an ATT DSL sales Rep giving me a special $25 a month offer to return, and I took it.

I already had my NEATGEAR modem/ router combo that I'd used when I'd had AT and T before. So I plugged in the cable to the router and the green light (signalling connectivity) was on the same day I spoke with the sales rep.

But when I connected tot the router with my laptop, it told me "AT has found a problem with your connection, please contact tech support."

I spoke with tech support who informed me that I needed to create a new login name (I was using my old one from when I had it before.)

I created the new login name and entered the information into my router. But I was not able to connect. So I called tech support again and they told me that my account had been activated, but the record was showing a dummy account.

The tech support walked me through the registration process several times, all the way to the screen that says "You're ready to surf!" But I still was not able to surf.

Finally, when I got to the third tech support person, we figured out what it was. For my modem/router, I was entering in my att email address as a login (which you are supposed to do). But I was also using my email password as well.

As it turns out, your email password is not the one you use for your modem when setting up a connection: there is a different password for that purpose.

So the solution was incredibly simple, but it took a long time for tech support to deduce the real problem.

As of now, everything is up and running and working perfectly though.

I'm able to Stream Netflix movies, surf, and even play online with the PS3 when I want.

Overall, I think for my purposes, it's a good deal.

I feel like I am caught is a tornado. I have been assigned 3 new
accounts trying to get working DSL/Uverse service. Now they have decided
that my home wired phone is a wireless phone and I cannot get customer
service to understand. I cannot talk to a knowledgeable person. I have
been made promises that are "not available or possible" according to the
phone reps. on type of service and pricing.

This line was originally dial-up! *gasp*

UPDATE: 3-24-11 - after years of waiting this line is still around .80 megabit (yes, .80) ... Cancelled. Started as an SBC YAHOO DSL account quite a few years ago...

To be concise, I have been waiting for over six years to get updates in my area to get better than a 384 kilobit account.

AT&T is rolling out a updates in my town Dec. 27th, but my CO is getting no updates and no plans to put in more COs.

Bottom line is they don't care in my area if can you get the speeds you need, as long as you can get at least something.

This isn't about me being "speedy greedy" - it is about being not able to use most of the Internet's new "areas," that require a lot of bandwidth.

---

UPDATE: 12-10-2011 (workplace by default covers at&t dsl, so I plugged it in to see if it's any better since I switched ISPs that previously were not available). It is still about .80 megaBIT download (yes, .80 - not 80), consistently. This has been its speed for almost a decade and for many years HughesNet was my only option before SBC YAHOO\AT&T DSL; and, with this DSL, no real infrastructural improvements for all of this time have been seen in my area to effect me (even had techs out to make sure all on my end and my neighborhood = OK). Finally, after many, many years cable and then later 4gLTE came to area. I am getting standard 4gLTE speeds and my cable goes between 25-30megabit consistently & with some higher bursts.

... Maybe in another area AT&T DSL is fantastic due to great infrastructure, but not here (Pacific Bell & then SBC originally here, before AT&T; many, many years ago before internet, the set up here was, PacBell as my local telco & AT&T as my "long distance" provider; this phone line was established and kept since 1983). All of these issues aside, their standard AT&T DSL tech. support routes are awful; their official forum I would use here usually brought as good as service as possible, considering my local AT&T telco DSL infrastructure.

The locked-in price workplace pays for is about $12\month; yes, I checked out if could get faster if paid more. The problem is, I couldn't even stream Netflix; luckily, the cable option came around finally with higher speeds - and just as stable of a connection with very few outages.

When I ordered online their DSL service is 25.95/month(and still this price now) within first year, but no contract, it means I can cancel anytime. The order was completed online and I wait for active date. No service on and after active service, I called AT&T 800 number, while, the guy checked my order, and said for some reason, the order did not move smoothly and it's canceled by them but did not tell me. So, he placed another order in the phone, and of course the new active date would be delayed. Then, everything moved well since then, the tech came and checked and service was actived on time. Until the first bill came out, the price is $29.95, not $25.95. I then called back and asked to change the price, the lady in the phone, told me the order the guy placed is different to mine online, like you can buy online or in store, the deal online is not in store, the deal he gave me is $29.95/month promotion price with one year contract, which I do not want, but he did not told me any single words about the deals are different, now if I terminate the service, I need to pay $150 early termination fee.. I think I will not use AT&T service anymore.
