I am an in IT and support over a hundred desktops and servers. I often have to tunnel into work from from home via VPN. I previously had 3MB DSL line, but it could not handle more than 2 systems at a time, especially when I had a remote desktop connection. I tried Insight and it was great. I'm moving the rest of our systems onto Insight and will be removing the DSL. For now, the 10MB package is working well, but it's nice to know that I can go to 20 or even 30 soon if I need it. The only issue I've had was the billing department (accounting) which could not seem to get my statement right for 4 months. It was very annoying to have to call their billing dept every month to tell them they didn't get it right.

I hesitated to go with Insight internet. I've had them for cable and haven't liked their customer support. But AT&T got too expensive for speeds slower than Insight Broadband cable. I went with the package deal: cable TV, Broadband Internet 10 meg down/1.2 up, and phone service. Everything has worked well. However recently, for the last three mornings, I have not been able to send emails. I can receive them but not send. I've left emails, I've looked at online FAQs, and I tried NetChat. FAQS sucks but that true with most companies. In my experience FAQs rarely cover the problem I'm having. I have received no replies to my emails, and no one ever picked up on the Live NetChat, and this was at 9:00 EST. So product is very good, price is ok, but technical and customer service is awful.

    Insight over AT&T

    8-24-2009

After fighting AT&t this AM for more than an Hour and fifteen min., trying to get them to understand, that I wanted to be hooked back up to my telephone and cable services because of the flood in Jeffersonville IN. Yes it took that long, I finally got the order through.
I made one call to Insight to get my cable hooked up, it took less than 15 min. to do so!
I then inquired as to their package deal, I was told what I wanted to know, right away!
I made one more call to AT&T to cancel my order and went through, Insight it cost me less and only took a short time to achieve this.
Now it boils down to this AT&T is getting to big to handle coustomers and their needs! The are taking over all of the smaller phone services, and returning to the old MA bell!
Your best be go with you loco cable subscriber!

With speeds of 10000/1000 I can't complain. $30 a month for one year was the deal when I signed up.

Edit: No longer in an Insight service area. Above review may not be applicable.

I've just had this service for a month, and overall I'm satisfied. I had AT&T's Elite DSL, but it was quirky these past few months. Call AT&T, and you would go through hell to get support. Insight has very quick installation time; it has great speed; and when the service packed up 5 days ago, they sent someone within 2 hours to go through the whole apartment wiring. He found the problem in the apt cabling and was out within an hour and half. So far so good.

    Modem: Motorola SURFBoard SB5120

Comcast bought Insight, and the only good they've done is for themselves. They increase the price every other day, and the speed is appalling now. I wonder why Comcast is so bad. I'm looking forward to the time I move to my new house in a month. I'll use the opportunity to dump Comcast.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------
I am now using there 20 meg download service and it is supper fast. It is only 10.00 more a month so I figured I would try it. Insightbb is the only ISP available in my area that is broadband.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------

I've been a subscriber to InsightBB ever since it became available to me back in April 2001. I haven't had any complaints with them and the service has been very reliable in my neighborhood. It has only been down a few times in the last 2 and a half years and my download speeds have ranged from 3 to 3.5mb down.

The upload speeds are not fast. I only have been able to get bps and while Comcast and Time Warner have raised there upload speeds to 384kbps, InsightBB only has 384 up if you give them $35 more a month which to me is not worth it.

InsightBB has since raised its speeds to 4mb down and 384kbps up. and 6mb down and 512kbps up for the faster teir which puts them in line with the ADSL service that the phone company offers if you live within range of the CO.

In my area InsightBB is the only choice for broadband since Cincinnati Bell ADSL service is limited. I am happy to have cable broadband where I live and would not want to go back to dialup service.

    Update

As of 11/01/06 InsightBB has raised its basic teir speeds to 10/1. I'm getting close to that execpt during the early evening hours when speeds drop to half of what's advertised.

I have had Insight's version of Road Runner here in Columbus, OH for over three years now, when i first subscribed it was 4Mbps down/512k up.. Since then they had pushed up to 7Mbps/512k up for the standard service and that was $40, so when they had called and offered me their "Turbo" service for an extra $10 per month, i decided to take them up on it. I could not be happier with this service since it had taken me up to a guaranteed 15Mbps down/ 768k up.

I usually get around 27-32Mbps down and i usually stay right at the 768k upload.

In the three years i've had the service, it's only went down once and that was for a fiber upgrade in the neighborhood and i was made well aware in advance of the outage, so i am definitely pleased with the service and am extremely happy with what i get for what i pay! i would recommend them to anyone

I signed up for Insight Broadband in mid-January '06 when it was 4/384, under their offer of $30/mo., with that price guaranteed for one year. My local Insight office still offers this deal because it's so popular. Insight now calls their product Broadband 10.0, since the download speed was increased to 10Mbps in October, 2006, with an upload speed of 1Mbps.

I had considered getting DSL service from BellSouth (now owned by AT&T), but they simply didn't offer the speed I wanted at the price I wanted.

The ordering process was pretty smooth, and it took about five days from the time I placed my order to when the Insight technician arrived at my home to do the installation. The cable modem I have is the RCA DCM425.

I installed an Ethernet card in my computer, plugged the modem into the computer, turned the computer on, and plugged the modem's power cord into an available outlet on my surge protector. As I was going through the registration process using the QIC Assistant software (Insight no longer uses this for broadband registrations), I encountered a problem: the modem would not boot up.

I tried everything that was suggested and nothing worked. What would happen is that all of the indicator lights would flash briefly, and then I would get only one blinking light. I even disconnected the Ethernet connection and hooked the modem up to my computer using the USB connection, and that didn't work either.

I called my local Insight office, and told the service rep what my problem was and he told me to give him the MAC address of the modem, and still nothing worked. About a week later, I woke up one morning and found the modem was fully working (how this happened, I don't know). I then went to complete the unfinished registration process, and to my dismay, the QIC software would not allow me to set up an insightbb.com e-mail account. I've since gotten a free Hotmail account so I can have e-mail access.

For the most part, the service does work as advertised, but depending upon the time of day, the amount of network traffic, etc., download speeds can slow to a crawl. Overall, though, I'm happy with it.

UPDATE 2/8/2008: I just read earlier today here on DSL Reports that Insight is now offering a new speed tier across their entire Kentucky/Indiana footprint with download speeds of up to 20Mbps, and upload speeds of up to 1.5Mbps for an additional $20 per month. However, this new speed tier will initially be made available to Insight Broadband customers on a first-come, first-served basis.

IMO, while I believe that the additional speed tier offering is a great idea, I don't think that it's worth paying an additional $20/month just to get a 10Mbps increase in speed. I'm paying enough already just for 10Mbps service. If Insight offered this new speed tier for just $10 more per month, I would consider getting it. What Insight should have done is offered existing Broadband 10.0 customers the option of upgrading to the new tier for little or no cost, instead of their usual practice to nickel and dime customers every time they offer a new product or service.

    Just my two cents.

I switched from DSL (static IP, 6Mb) to Insight's 10.0 service and sticky IP over a year ago and am VERY pleased with the service. Admittedly, you have to edit your domain IP every once in a great while, but with the speed of the internet's DNS servers updating so fast, it's fixed in less than an hour.

I've called their tech support several times and while you can on occasion get 'the trainee', I've been overall pleased with them.

I recently bumped up to their 20.0 service, and honestly get download speeds running over the 20 meg cap. Best so far was 2.19Mbps from Adobe. Obviously, your milage may vary, but I'm a happy geek =)

    One Year Update:

After a year of Insight Cable 20.0, their 20 Megabit service, I am still VERY pleased with their service, throughput, and quality of signal. The only outages I've experienced were during Hurricane Ike and the Great Snowstorm of '09. They had services up and running even before I had electric power restored. That shows the power of going with underground power!
