Insight's 10.0 internet package has really held it's own in my location. It hasn't lost connectivity in quite some time and it performs at it's peak.
However, getting it set up was where most of the headache occurred. It would appear to me that Insight's policy with their contractors is pretty loose, considering that every install I've had (I've gone through 4 different apartments) the contractor has either been extremely late or hasn't shown at all; in fairness, however, I've received a monetary credit each time - but going through the experience is pretty disheartening (especially when you're dying to get your internet fix).
All I have to say at the moment is that I'm pretty happy with how the service has been running since I got it back last August (8/2007). I've not had to deal with the problems that plagued me in the past.

Very nice downstream. Can utilize over 14mbit (I have plus) after some heavy tweaking especially with RWIN.
Provides very nice Usenet access through Giganews. Always had complete and reliable binaries from the provided news server.
I was sent the wrong configuration file twice (I am a Plus user and I got sent the Basic bandwidth cap files twice). Fixed moderately quickly with calls to support each time.
Pings will usually deteriorate into the low 3 digit territory at times, and this can interfere with gaming.
Insight connections are packet shaped, noticeably with Bittorrent. incoming packets containing bittorrent data seems to be dropped at Insight's end. This can interfere with it on torrents with low amounts of seeds. Despite this, on well seeded torrents I hit my downstream cap and upload.

Wow, almost 1yr have passed since I last reviewed Insight and now for the last time. As we are all being moved to Comcast in Illinois. To date my connection has been excellent over the last year or so and I have not noticed any down time. Insight for the most part has been non-stop. With greater than industry speeds and no invisible caps, Insight has been awesome. The only major change was my bill.. I have since moved on to DishTV which has raised my bill to around $90.00 mo, this includes a leased cable modem and premium speeds. While I do not get any discounts this way, I really can't complain for what I am getting for the price. Any where from 20 Mbps down and 1.5 Mbps up.
Anyway It's been a blast. Thank you Insight for being true to your customers!
Now off to Comcast, for hopefully a Comcastic experience.
I ordered Premium service. 15000 down 1200 up. Service has been good for the last 6 months. I have been a customer for the last 7yrs.

Insight service has been very good for the last few months no problems. Ever since they moved to the new backbone from Sprint/Level 3 speeds have been outstanding. However during the transition was a nightmare for much of Insights customers. I now have 15000 down with 1200 up.

It's been pretty much the same. My connection has gone down recently and has been sporadic for the last few days. I did get the issues resolved after I called. Tech support was very reasonable and polite. Only complaint I have is I was on hold for 30 min before I got answered.

Rock solid and reliable. I have not noticed any slow downs or drop outs. But then again I don't do the online gaming thing as much as I used to. My last speed test came in at around 8000kbs down and 500kbs up. That's pretty on-spot to advertised of 8000/512.
The only gripe so far is cost. Unless you have the money or have a real need for premium service it's not worth it. IMO Insight should just make every one premium service class speeds. Then just adjust the monthy cost from there. Say 50-60 per month. 70.00 bucks is just too much for broadband these days. But then again Insight almost has the monopoly in this area. I think we have some DSL and wireless around but it is very limited , compared to Cable BB.

20MB service is awesome. Reliability is key. Tech's are still hit or miss.

there are 3 peoeple on my card, and they are not behind a shared connection. ALL the 20.00 are uncapped at this time

2 edits | Not a major improvement. If your downloading from a sever with a 200k transfer rate that's all your getting. Having a 20MB, 30Mb or 50MB download speed isn't going to increase the other guys speed.
The bottom line is your really not getting any major benefit from that extra 20$ other than spending more money to feel good.

Compared to most DSL packages, this is superior for high bandwidth applications since 10 Mbps > 768 Kbps. However, my ping times will increase from 100 ms to 400 ms during peak hours. They will also perform "maintenance" on the lines without any warning beforehand so if you have anything important to do that requires internet service, you have a chance of being without internet for as long as 12 hours.
Make sure that they give you a Motorla Surfboard rather than the RCA modems that they have if you are given a choice. The short RCA box that I was using a while back would frequently overheat and just seemed like an overall cheap design.

I have had service with insight for a couple years and have had little to complain about. I have had a few service slowdowns and DNS problems but they were taken care of in short order. Compared to the dsl providers I have used in the past, Insight blows them away.
