"FAST!!! Great Tech & Sales Support. Nortel VPN Works Perfectly!!!!"
"None that I can think of."
"If ATT and/or DSL broadband where avail. I would still get DLS.net"

Prior to getting DLS.NET my IDSL service was twice as expensive, 10 times (soon to be 100 times) as slow, dropped VPN connections frequently, and was almost impractical to use. After speaking with several well educated and very polite tech support personnel, they convinced me that VPN (for various vendors noted) works just find and to take a shot at using DSL.NET. I was warned/informed by my company not to use this or any wireless service since VPN is gauranteed NOT to work, but I gave it a shot anyway.
I was approved within days of placing the order and had the service up after about 2 weeks after placing the order. The installation was very clean and professional as I was concerned about another RJ11 wire run through the house to my den. The first thing I did was to setup my router (5min max.) and connect to work using my laptop. VPN connected flawlessly and has been doing so for a few months now. I then setup my LAN and POP3 email, etc. and felt like a wiz - although I am not. Then I paid attention to the speeds for working with Microsoft's development tools (Visual Source Safe in particular) and it was as if I was on my work's LAN.
You have seen other POSTs with speed test so I am not going to add mine. You can expect over 1MEG download and up to 700kbs up - perhaps higher but I am not certain. I am upgrading to the 10MEG download service next week and cannot wait. It will be interesting when/if ATT and DSL get service out here what they will offer. Now if they just had Web Hosting service with Win2K and .NET (which they are in the process of doing, so I here...) & they will be offering 22MEG service in the not too distant future as well - I would need a new NIC card and router - don't know what more you could ask for!!!!
I would not hesitate to give them a shot. Feel free to contact me if you have any specific questions.

Let me start by saying that im a network engineer, who works from home often. I have been in my home for 6 years now, and in that time I have had Amertich ISDN, DirecPC Satellite Broadband, Qwest SDSL (256k max speed) and now DLS Wireless service.
Originally I requested an install in November of 2002, but the tower that served Mundelein at the time was too low and low powered to reach the far SE corner of Mundelein where I live (Allinson and Butterfield). I was assured a new tower in the Lake Zurich area was going to be turned up in January, and I was rescheduled for a January install date.
I became the first user on the new tower today, and at just a little under 10 miles with less than a perfectly clear line of site (Some large pine trees) I am up and running at around 800kbps down, and 976kbps up (Go figure). Due to the distance they had to install a 21db high gain Yagi antenna on a ten foot mast, but other than the fact that its pretty ugly, it works incredibly well so far. The installer was extremely friendly, took his shoes off when entering the house, and had everything done in around 2 hours from start to finish. After having a taste of this service, even if more than 256kbps SDSL were available to my home, I wouldnt switch. Pings average less than 30ms with the highest recorded being 110 ms, and there is just nothing like downloading a new 157MB game off the net in 18.7 minutes. Kudos to DLS, this was bar none the least painfull, most professional broadband installation I have experienced. If you can get it, this is the best thing going IMHO.

"Fast, reliable, great customer support!"
"Long wait to get installed , price/month high - should tier 10MB and 1.5MB"
"Great service for those of us who are limited on choices"

I ordered DLS.NET service and it took a month to finally get it installed. They are doing six installs per day and that is the wait time for this service today. When the installer came, he was courteous, took off his shoes, and surveyed the situation.
I have a wireless router and he had no problems hooking the service up to it, and making sure that it worked, although he didn't have to according to the contract. The install was very clean and professional and the antenna wasn't as big as I thought it would be from their picture on their web site. He even kept it on the back of my roof so no one can see it from the front.
The only disapointing thing about the whole install process was that their coverage map on their web site showed that I was well within the range of their 10MB service, however, when he got to my home, he said there is no way I am in that service area. The tower I am on is the one with 10MB service, however it is a directional antenna and I am on the wrong side. But once I started surfing and downloading, I realized that the 1.5 MB service is still pretty quick. I am getting 950kbps down and up to 900 kbps up, which I sure can live with after crummy dial up.
I made a few customer support calls already and the people on that staff are knowledgable and friendly. They know everything about wireless, routing, PPPoE, and computing in general.
The only negative is the price. $65/month could take a toll on my budget. But if the quality of the link stays the same, and the service stays the same it may be worth it.
Get this service, there aren't many alternatives in this area...

I have had DLS Wireless service since the day DLS has been offering it! It has been so reliable that our company is now accessing all of our automotive technical information online instead of the 7 DVD's I used to receive every quarter!
The service is always on so my employees no longer have to dial up and then share a 56kbps connection!
If you are looking for fast reliable service this is the way to go.

"Terrible Response Time to Request, Terrible Customer Service"
| Pre Sales Information: Install process: Tech Support:

Talk about a company that doesn't want to gain your business. DLS ranks at the very top of the list in companies with the WORST customer service.
I submitted a request for a pre-test to see if service was available. After a week, nothing. Not a phone call, not an email -- nothing. So I called them. Their answer... we haven't had a chance to perform the pre-test yet. Why not? Because they were too busy putting up another antenna on top of the Fox River Grove water tower. OK, how is that my problem? They told me that they couldn't perform the pre-test until they were done in FRG. OK, fine, aggravating, but fine.
Two more weeks go by and guess what? That's right. NOTHING. So I call again, and again, and again. I was told they would be out by a specific date. The date goes by and still nothing. So I call again. Another date. Again nothing. Another phone call. More and more aggravation. As bad as it sounds, even Ameritech isn't this aggravating (and that's saying A LOT!)
Finally, after six weeks, they finally come out and perform the pre-test. The test was successful.
Now I get called again and again from DLS saying, "... the pre-test was successful, when are you going to sign up?" When I need them, I can't get anything, but now they can get money out of me they won't stop calling.
At the time, the installation price was $350 (now it's $250). I told them I was skittish about getting their service after such a hard time getting the pre-test done. I was told, rudely and flat out, "If you're looking for a reduction in the installation price, forget it. It's not negotiable." Don't get me wrong, I wasn't looking for a "free-ride" on the installation -- I just wanted to negotiate it (I would have paid half.) Even Ameritech gave me six months of free service after they blew-off the installation appointment and didn't get back to me for three months (back when they didn't have customer installs.)
Really, so I'm supposed to thankful that they're the only game in town when it comes to high speed access. I don't think so. I contacted them recently to see if they've changed their position and they still haven't.
DLS is a company that doesn't have the first idea of what it takes to make a customer happy. They only care if you pay. I am a consultant that works mostly in their coverage area. I guess they'll never really know how much business they just lost by not handling the pre-test problem correctly. Getting service at home was a convenience for me, I already have DSL from Ameritech in my office in Cary (less than two minutes away.)

I've been an extremely happy customer of DLS' wireless service since April. Once they announced 10Mbps service, I immediately called to upgrade. The monthly price is the same as their 1.5Mbps, but they do charge a $250 install fee for service upgrades. I personally feel this a little steep, but still acceptable for me at least. The upgrade went smooth and I was up within an hour. Speeds are incredible. I found that I even faster downloads using a download manager like flashget. Striaght from IE, I can get 200-300KBps, yes kilo-BYTES per second. Using a flashget, I can get 600-700KBps. I've never experienced a connection this fast before. I now find that my speed is limited by the host's connection, NOT mine.
I would recommend them to anyone within sight of their towers. Since April I have only been down for scheduled maintenance, with the exception of one time a faulty generator at a tower failed during a power outage (not DLS' fault).
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me.

I have been a customer of DLS since 1999 starting with ISDN moving to DSL and finally to wireless10Mbps. A remarkable team will assist you with any of your needs. My downloads have been consistent with other users in the area bringing down a 50mb file in 60sec. I have not done much uploading yet to confirm my results.

I am the first customer apparently in the Lake in the Hills area for DLS's new 10megabit service - and wow, it SCREAMS! A 50 meg file was downloaded in just under a MINUTE! The average throughout was 995k/sec - that's nearly a MEGABYTE per second I also do alot of remote control stuff on other computers, and the latency is so low it makes it feel like I'm on a lan. I guess I am a bit lucky having a clear line of sight, which everyone may not be able to take advantage of. Also, my "dish" is really small and not very noticeable - 1/4 the size of a direcway dish.
The install was pretty quick - 1/2 the time was in trying to get my nic card to work. Like many, I was a bit skeptical, but I was so sick of my horrid Direcway system and the 900-1100ms pings, I am glad to pay the $300 diconnection to direcway.

I was very skeptical at first when my speeds were over 1Mbps down and upload was around and has stayed around 800!!!!! Completely great. Finally a company has capitalized on what Amerwreck and ATT Cable dont want to do is provide REAL broadband access for the burbs.
