I have been with Mediacom since they took over from the ATT @home days. So far their service here has been very stable. Only a couple of outages here in the past few years. I pull a steady 18meg down. The only other option here is DSL which is more expensive and has less speed. So I guess I will stick with them until something better comes along! I also have their phone service which is working good for me. I am just waiting for FTTH but I doubt that will ever come up here!

On site technicians, for the most part, have lousy attitudes and don't really care if they successfully diagnose and remedy a problem. The telephone and e-mail customer support persons generally have no clue what our local cable offers or any other issues. Some have been downright rude on the phone.
Broadband Internet is also generally very reliable and speeds are as advertised.

Speed is mostly there, however the customer service sucks, and from time to time the connection likes to completely drop out.
The price (for the whole package) is pretty rediculous too, however my neighborhood has no options other than mediacom.
A hell of a lot better than when i had mediacom in ames. In ames i was lucky to get 1mbit sometimes.

I have been a customer of Mediacom Cable for year now, ever since they came to offer services in Murphysboro Illinois. Over the year, I had only subscribed to Family Cable and had DSL through Verizon. When Mediacom launched their VoIP services we switched over and got their VoIP service with their VIP internet package and digital cable. Over the course of a year we have experienced NUMEROUS outages lasting over 24 hours and the phone just likes to stop working when it wants.
They run two networks, VoIP and internet are on one network, TV and Digital Cable/HD/DVR's run on another. When one is down the other is up, and vice versa. So at least you can do something while Mediacom gets an act of congress to send out a van.
The installer that came to install our lines was extremely knowledgeable and did everything to the best of his abilities to get us up and running. He has been our installer and technician on multiple occasions, and when he comes to the door he knows exactly what to do and remembers where all the lines in the house are ran. Their local support team is fantastic.
Now on the other hand their toll free support team is horrible, I rate it with the AOL cancelation team. They don't give 2 cents if your problem gets resolved, they could care less if your services are functioning, and if you report an outage all they do is send an email.
Our bill runs around $214 a month excluding franchise fees and so forth.

I ordered and install .. al was fine till about 5 months ago (GBLX ring ahh bell for anyone else ??? false bandwidth advertised speeds?) 4. Motorola oldie 5. Good not much to say about this .. for the past year Bad alot of bad :-( Poor call log history: CS reps not completing request for escalation or escalation depart is not responding etc.. Ability to diagnose and repair .. ah very poor... 4 months on the jobs and connection are worst than ever.. ~~Techs have no pc to test anything at all! on site, or after they install a modem ? (wth ??) an internet tech without a pc? that's brilliant !! PS getting redirected to Washington dc servers( or Langley VA, hummm) before i go anywhere else on the net .. most likely the problem to all of this .. but I'm sure that will never be admitted new software for the internet cops and looks like there abusing it in the first week of service.. ( Microsoft released new stuff for-em April 14th 2009 :-(.....)

I have been a Mediacom member for a long time and have never really been dissapointed in their service. They are all around a decent company with a friendly staff.
I have had their digital cable/Internet for years and only so often am I ever dissapointed with it. Prices are somewhat high but quality is unmatched in my opinion.

Yes, I'm very unhappy with Mediacom.
Customer service is terrible.
Multiple times I was told someone would follow up by an email or phone call - I got neither. One time I can understand, sometimes things slip through the cracks. When you are told by employees of a multi million dollar company that they will call you back you tend to take them on their WORD.
Mediacom's WORD is worthless and look forward to the day I can close the account.
When businesses feel there is no competition they think they can continue to give terrible service and expect to maintain customers.
Yes Mediacom I had a 600MB file i needed to transfer. That took 3-1/2 days at 5kbps average upload speed. My friend transferred the same file which took only 42 minutes with Comcast.
I jumped through all the hoops for Mediacom. Went to their service center picked up a new modem. Installed alternate FTP software. Even installed a new operating system. Even had my friend bring over his computer to no avail.
Ive been using FTP since 1995 and consider myself quite knowledgeable, but certainly not a network engineer. And its a real shame when a hack like myself knows more about networking then their level 2 technicians.
Don't know how many levels of techs they have but I'm sure cheap ass Mediacom only has ONE top level tech for the entire country most likely overworked and underpaid and could give a sh*t less about anybody elses pain! Quite possibly my issue is something that would require Mediacom to replace some expensive router or server,(or just have it configured correctly) certainly if they need to open up their wallet I'll be waiting til the cows come home.

Update 2009: Meh. Still better than dealing with Qwest, I guess.
Update 2007: Connection at my new residence is less reliable.
Update 2006: Mediacom's price/performance ratio ratio gets farther out-of-step with other cable HSI providers every year.
I've had cable internet service in the DSM, IA area since the pre-DOCSIS system went live under TCI several years ago. While the transition from TCI to AT&T was fairly painless, the AT&T->Mediacom transition was like something out of a bad horror novel. I won't go into to much detail as the ensuing farce would fill several spiral-bound notebooks, but it took nearly 2 years, numerous calls, office visits, emails, and finally the intervention of my credit card company to straighten things out. Since then, things have bee relatively smooth with decent reliability.
Some random comments:
1. Mediacom's price/speed ratio is becoming increasingly out of step with the other national cable HSI providers.
2. Level 1 support is a complete joke; though this is an industry-wide problem (once talked to a Mediacom L1 who didn't even know what a DNS server was).
3. Mediacom punishes consumers who do not subscribe to to both TV and HSI services; maybe if they offered a TV service that came close to the price & quality of DBS services like Directv or Dishnet I'd consider it....until then, they can "take their cable box and shove it".
I am not completely displeased with Mediacom; my misadventures with Qwest DSL and the Qwest billing dept have shown me that there are FAR worse companies to deal with.
