Well I found out last sunday that they were finnaly offering broadband here through Mediacom so I jumped at the chance. I got on the phone and talked to a rep who told me that would come install a line on wednesday(4/11) then two days later another tech would drop the modem off and set it up. On weds they were suppose to show up at 3pm and install the line but that came and went then I got a messege saying they would be here at 5:30pm, that came and went, then they called around 8:45pm saying the techs could come out and if I wanted install everything that night. I thought that was pretty sweet because I really didn't want to wait longer for the hookup so they came out and met all my concerns about not going through the new siding by running a line through the basement. After the hookup we could not get it to find an ip and recognize the internet so we did test after test finnaly coming to the conclusion through tech support that the modem was fried. The guys said they were going to wait till tomorrow to drop another modem off but one of them decided he would go across town right now and pick one up so I wouldn't have to wait which I thought was very nice of him and appreciated it a lot. So far speeds have been around 1.5mb down and 126kps up which I think are just perfect. Other than the modem and techs showing up late issue things could of not of gone better.

I was on the Microshaft Network for two years and kept getting screwed over by them repeatedly. I finally took the plunge and and decided to go with cable internet through these guys and now I'm kicking myself for not getting this service earlier. The speed is fantastic. The slowest speeds I've ever gotten using Mediacom is in the 1200kbps range (not like that's a bad thing) and the service I got from the tech support people was top notch. They took my call in a friendly, yet professional manner *AND* treated me like an actual person when I needed to set up some more email accounts and connect the rest of my home network. These guys are a gift from God in an era of megacorporations trying to peddle crappy dialup connections and flaky dsl connections for megabucks.

I get broadband for two reasons: 1) Gaming - Counter Strike, Quake, Unreal, etc. 2) Downloads - Linux ISO's, Rpm's, movies, etc.
In gaming, my pings went from an avg of ~30 just over half a year ago to somewhere between 100 and 300 now, especially as of the last two weeks.
In downloads, I went from avg 300Kb/s just over half a year ago to somewhere between 10Kb/s and 40Kb/s.
The worst part is there's absolutely no consistency. QWorst is better than that, as I can pick my own ISP. If they ever decided to compete here in Urbandale (Des Moines area), I think QWest would have quite a few people switch.

I moved here in Sylva, NC and Mediacom is the only broadband provider here. No DSL or satellite broadband except Mediacom. I ordered last month and they said they have to delayed because of @Home transaction. Which is fine by me because alot of people would suffered by it. Anyway, I just had it installed last week and the speed is great. I just got up in 1000 download on my 3 years old 333mhz Compaq computer and it hasn't tweak yet. The installation was fast, the tech guy even called me first to make sure I was home, then he arrived in about 10 minutes later to install it. The speed by the way is faster than Comcast actually offer. My best speed at Comcast was only 700k. Anyway I'm happy to use broadband again, Broadband Rock!!!!!!

I have been using the Internet since the beginning of time or should I say since AOL first released there service a trillion years ago. Although I never did keep AOL for more then a month it was a new world from that time on. I have used many dialup services and never really got a chance to get broadband int'll recently when it became avaliable in my area. I was totally satisfied with my Dialup service and always thought it was fast enough for what I did. I was very excited to get Cable Internet with all the promises you see and every thing you can possible do with it. I have been satisfied since I have hooked up with Medicom High Speed Internet since the beginning and have found nothing bad about it. Since the day it has been turned on I have had no down time and no slow downs. I get 1.5 down and only 128 upload but I don't really upload much except for my web page and really it doesn't take much to upload a web page so I am completely satisfied there although I hope to see the 128 to go up in the future. At 39.95 a month I find it resonable but I think it could be a little cheaper but that 39.95 includes the modem rental which is 10.00 a month although they should have a rent to own system so that maybe after a year of renting your modem they just give it to you and then your monthly charge is only 29.95. Any way I am completely satisfied and recommend it over DSL or any other broadband service.

We started with @home here in town, then had to switch to Mchsi.com after @home shut down. Sence Mchsi started the speed has slowed down enough to make me wonder why I am paying for high speed internet. The 1-800 tech support line always wants to blame the local company and the local company doesn't have a clue on how to fix it. My downloads are now averaging about 80K/sec, a speed that I feel should be much higher.

Well, reliability in terms of latency have improved since the switch/caps were implemented even though the download speed is about 1/4 of what I was getting before. Upload speed is around 1/10 the speed I was getting before. Still better than what I could get with DSL (640/120) for about the same price/month. I had DSL for the prior year and other than the speed issue had never lost service. So far have been with Mediacom since mid Dec 01. Will sometimes get high latency/pings maybe 1-2 days (usually between 7-11pm central) every other week. Will see what happens down the road.

I guess the best thing you can say about any ISP is that "I don't notice them". The reliability and performance is so consistently outstanding that after awhile you just forget they are there. BMJak in western NC

I have been pretty happy with mediacom overall. Much better than the Qwest DSL I had previously. My only beef is with the decision to limit downloads to 1.5mb bandwidth. No more 400K/s downloads for me
