Decided to go with Mediacom after Iowa Telecom, decided to increase there rate's for basic phone service Pre Install- Ordered the 3mb Cable package without any other service total for 1 year is $35 ($19 + $15) Install was scheduled for the 19th He came at the specified time and was courteous and professional We live in a brick house so he had trouble initially deciding how to best run the cable as we have a crawl space with is hard to get to. so what he did was move the ground block to where our phone line comes in at basement windows and ran it in that way into our splitter and we used the existing cabling in my room except, He didn't have the screw I need on our house to secure the cable to the brick! The Modem is an Ambit 60678 EU cable modem which I have connected to a Motorola WRG850G router
Speeds are great
I would recommend Mediacom if your in an area served by them and you value speed (At least in Iowa)
Update: 7/10/2009 Speeds still are great, No major outages (had 2 that lasted all of 1 minute) I later found out that the Ambit was reporting incorrect signals and was the cause of the lost connection. I now have an RCADCM 425 modem and new wiring and everythiong is working great. I do computer support and I hear numerous complaints about our local phone compony. If you can get Mediacom (Internet) go for it

I have gone from 10mb to 15, and now to 20. Services are a little pricey forcing one to package deal.
Installs have all gone pretty well, ontime, and prearrival call.
My biggest hangup is having outages, calling support, and having tech say it is something on my computer. I always contact other MC users before calling support, so I usually know when it is something on my end or theirs.

I've had it now for almost 2 years. The advertised speed went from 5000/256 to 8000/512 but my download speed rarely exceeds 5500. I do like the increased upload speed. I have been annoyed with down times ranging from a few minutes to several hours but they have been getting rarer. Overall I have been happy with it.
12/26/2007 - My speed jumped to 6500-6800 which made me happy. I then switched my old 802.11b router with a Linksys WRT54G which allowed consistent 7500/490 speeds.
04/25/2008 - Been running into a lot of slow time. Download speed will drop to 500 - 1500 for a day or two and then jump back up to a normal 7500 - 7600. I was also sent an info pack saying since I have all 3 services (cable, internet, phone) I will get a free upgrade to 10000/1000 but I haven't seen any change yet.
6/27/2008 - Finally got upgraded to 10000/1000. Tested at 9365/945 so that's nice. I've been having a lot of slow time though when I'll be lucky to have 20% of that and it'll last for a couple of days.
7/17/2008 - Went an entire evening of no service but it seems that was due to repairs. Have been getting consistent 9300-9600kbps downloads. Even during high traffic times it doesn't drop below 7500kbps. and that is rare. My upload speeds are always 930-960kbps.
8/09/2008 - Mediacom seems to be testing Web-boost. Uploads are the same but have been getting 14000-18000kbps downloads.
10/18/2008 - Service seems to be either very fast (10,000-30,000kbps) or very slow (800-2500) with very slow being by far the most common.
11/15/2008 - Getting better with less slow times.
6/26/2009 - Modem went out so I had to call customer service. Surprise! I didn't have to wait forever, the automated troubleshooter was quick and easy and I got to talk to someone within 2 minutes when the automated troubleshooter couldn't figure out my problem. I had a service tech at my house by 11:00 the next morning and he switched modems for me. I'm happy (for now).

I have the 20mbps MAX package in Ames, IA. Right now, it is summer time where lots of the college students have gone home, so my speeds have been rock solid 24 hours a day. Hopefully that continues through the coming school year(s).
Also, I will say that if you're looking for the best HD picture quality in the Des Moines area, Mediacom is the winner. Some of their channels are not rate shaped at all, and the others are rate shaped a VERY small amount. That's much better than DirecTV or Dish will give you (though the satellite guys do offer MANY more channels). Unless you can get FIOS, Mediacom is your best bet for PQ.

Their HSI is the only good thing about this company.
CSRs are idiots, CSR managers are just as clueless, and I know more than the tech they send out.

Don't ever expect mediacom to know how to work on two line phone service when one company is mediacom and the other is verizon.
They "worked" on my phone system and in the process of removing noise on the line completely trashed my home wiring. I'm at the point now that I'll have to call in "real" phone techs to fix my homes phone wiring back the correct state it was before mediacom screwed it up.

I've been a Mediacom customer for 6+ years.
I have the OnlineMAX, and the Digital cable. I had Verizon DSL for years. It's OK, but the speeds weren't all that good.
Overall there service is good. They have problems, but I can't imagine what cable company wouldn't. There pricing is right, and support isn't too bad. If you need a tech to come out, they will send one.
My reviews are magnified sometimes, because I work from home online, so when there's a problem I get irritable....lol
I would suggest if you have Mediacom available to get it.
UPDATE: Right now, I'm having some small DNS issues, but I think that's because Carbondale IL had some storms here earlier this month that pretty much took down every tree and telephone pole in the city.

When Mediacom was the only game in town I was willing to put up with a lot of crap. For example it took 3 attempts and over 30 days from the initial installation until I had semi-reliable service. Once internet was operational my cable television service went out. Another service call and my television was repaired but internet began to drop again. The service tech told me "off the record" to just unplug my modem, drag the coax wire across a metal object and to screw it back in to the cable modem. He then added "this happens a lot because they use really cheap cable and it's not properly grounded". I repeat, the Mediacom service technician said this to me. Eventually I was able to have fair broadband service and fair television service at the same time.
Then after a year or so my entire community began to suffer from an unexplained and unannounced outage 2-3 times a month. These outages would last anywhere from 12 hours to 2-3 days. All the customer service reps would tell you was that they were working on it. Soon the outages stopped and the bandwidth slowed to a crawl. We finally had reliability but Mediacom accomplished this by dropping speeds from 500-1000 kbps to 150-200 kbps. The CSR's would advise they everything was operating normally and it must be my computer. I began a campaign of taking screen captures of settings, speed tests, etc. on multiple computer at my house, friend's houses, etc. After sending 25 pages of documentation to them they responded by telling me that no one else was having these issues so it must be my computer. Except everyone I knew was complaining. I asked every I knew to contact everyone they knew and to complain by email to the head of Mediacom for our area. He was bombarded by complaints and suddenly, without admission of fault, our bandwidth improved. Victory! Except my service started dropping constantly once again.
Bye bye Mediacom and hello Swiftel! The local phone company completed a 3 year project and brought fiber optic internet to town and into my life. I am 9 months in with my new ISP and don't have a single complaint. My bandwidth has never slowed, my connection has never been lost and my download speeds are phenomenal. If I had to give Mediacom and overall grade it would be a "D-".

I have been with Mediacom since they took over from the ATT @home days. So far their service here has been very stable. Only a couple of outages here in the past few years. I pull a steady 18meg down. The only other option here is DSL which is more expensive and has less speed. So I guess I will stick with them until something better comes along! I also have their phone service which is working good for me. I am just waiting for FTTH but I doubt that will ever come up here!

On site technicians, for the most part, have lousy attitudes and don't really care if they successfully diagnose and remedy a problem. The telephone and e-mail customer support persons generally have no clue what our local cable offers or any other issues. Some have been downright rude on the phone.
Broadband Internet is also generally very reliable and speeds are as advertised.
