Buying 5/2 Mbps service, but getting (usually) 30/4! I think Cox is trying to keep me on board rather than bailing for FIOS. Only problem: no FIOS.

Our Cox SOHO service has had stellar reliability; we've been down for a few hours on only 2 occasions in 5 years. (I don't count the time our jackass satellite installer unplugged our Cox cable.)

In 2005 my original price was $49 per month and that is long gone. LOL

I have been with Cox.Net since Nov 2005. The hookup was easy and painless and my speeds has been consistently over 12 Mbps and up to 22Mbps at times. $49.99

    UPDATE Feb 2008
Surprise! Please pay $59.95 per month just because we named the new download to PowerBoost.

    UPDATE Starting March 2008
You are now paying $59.95 a month

    UPDATE Jan 2009
Cox is increasing Premium users to over 20 Mbps down and 2 Mbps plus upload side. We will wait and see if they increase it again.

UPDATE April 2009 (This was a good time but that will vaporize soon)
    $59.95 17-22 MB/sec download and 4-5 MB Upload

UPDATE Sept 2009 (Speeds are slowing downing)
    $59.95 17MB/Sec download and 1.7 MB/sec Upload
Looks like things are slowing down for Cox
We also are getting for outages in my local area and they replace the part and the speed drops more each time.

    UPDATE Nov 2009
Speed has stabilized between 17-20 Mbps download
    Upload runs between 3-5 Mbps
Never have any outages unless a car hits a pole somewhere.lol

    Look at your bill

I believe you are getting a $15 credit. I remember when this happened. The bundle customers were all switched from Preferred service to Premier and got a $15 credit to off set the increase bewteen the two levels. In essence, you got a huge speed increase for the same price as Preferred since you are in a bundle. If you don't like Premeir service, call and downgrade back to preferred.

The switch from @Home to Cox's independent service was a total nightmare for what seemed like an eternity. Fortunately, Cox appears to be rebounding and getting their act together. It's been nearly a year, and we haven't experienced any major problems, and the speed has been very reliable.

UPDATE: Since moving from Scottsdale, AZ to Henderson, NV, I have taken a point off of "Value for money" since I am paying the same amount for less speed. Premier tier in NV is 16Mbps while the same tier in AZ is 20Mbps.

"Reliable, delivers the 20000/3000 to my area, excellent gameplay and low pings,"
"Poor communication between Cox Contractors and Cox Technical Support can slow repairs."
"The MaxNet Bundle is saving me 30 bucks a month after dropping ATT phone service"

I currently subscribe to the MaxNet Cox bundle and now subscribe to the 3 digital services offered. The end result is about a 30 dollar savings by dropping ATT and getting the bundled price.

My phone installation went in fine and the transition with my phone number was seamless. The voice quality is better than our experience with the ATT lines which exhibited hum and clicks and other annoyances that apparently could not be corrected. Contrary to what the Cox sales rep said, it appears that depending on the cause, the phone usually dies right along with the internet and TV when there is a problem. That is no surprise to me, in fact I was surprised when the sales rep insisted that would not happen. Ah well, I can simply report any outages with my cell phone... To be honest, there has been only one outage over the past year and it was resolved in under 30 minutes.

The digital TV service with HDTV works very well. My signal levels at the tap are very healthy and I have not had any viewing issues in any room in the house. Initially, there were signal level issues in my area, but Cox was diligent and rolled the line techs and trucks to replace suspect hardware. It has been totally reliable since those upgrades in 2007.

The MaxNet bundle moved me to the top internet tier of 20/3 and I usually exceed those numbers here. This afternoon's result (November 14, 2008):

I also have excellent pings when gaming online. Signal levels to the modem have been excellent over the past year through all kinds of outdoor temperature ranges.

My interactions with Cox have always ended up in a satisfactory manner when I have contacted them to report an issue with service. My experience with the Cox contractors that are usually sent out first by Tier One reps has been mixed. When a real Cox technician shows up they are always able to get things squared away very quickly. I would rate my total Cox experience as excellent.

    My Other Reviews·Time Warner Cable
Install coordination was fine. It was annoying that I have to install their software to connect online though. The broadband is fine, but I am not satisfied with the TV prices. I do not even have a phone, but I ordered voice service for the bundle deal, which worked out to be a wash. I think that I am paying way too much ($130) and they do not seem to show my favorite, closest, basketball team on HD unless I pay for their NBA package.

UJpdate: Switched to the slower speed to save $, since I mostly serf. I noticed the difference right away, but now I'm used to it. The HD TV service stutters a lot.

Ordering and installation was easy and simple, service actived quickly. I purchased my own modem thru my favorite local retailer, didn't require a visit from a Cox Technician at all.

When I started with Cox, I had their basic 3meg plan, they upgraded everyone to 4megs, and in the past few days I upgraded to their Premier plan at 5 down.. Any issues that did pop up were usually resolved before I got off hold waiting to talk to Tech Support, not sure if thats a good thing or bad.

Overall I am a satisfied customer and would continue to do business with them.

    My Other Reviews·AT&T Southeast
Download speed puts DSL to shame and browsing is a little faster with cable. AT&T service for DSL is outstanding compared to the service of COX HSI. If you are computer savy and can get around a few bugs here and there, then Cox is the way to go, but if you need help from time to time stay away from Cox, it is the lowest I have ever seen. The techs don't even know what they are talking about. I know more than they do and that is not saying much. As far as connection reliability, you can't go wrong with either. Overall, I will take Cox and the speed over the DSL unless they up the DSL speed in my area.

I am not getting the speeds that I paid extra for. Further, cox has implemented spam protection by reading your emails as they get sent through the SMTP server. My legitimate email that contained a link cannot be sent with a warning message saying that it is spam. This is new policy -and very stunning to me that they have the nerve to do this. Calling support used to be quick, but now it is an automated loop. I kept saying operator operator --- OPERATOR until I got a live person with a 10 minute wait. Of course they couldn't help. They said to send it to thisisnotspam@cox.net. Still nothing after 2 days has changed. Verizon moves into town, lays the fiber in our hood, and cox service and policies get worse? I don't get it.

    My Other Reviews·AT&T Yahoo
I have discovered that where I live there is no go choice. I had AT&T at first, and had a horrible time with my connection and their equipment, so I switched to COX HSI after two weeks. I work in the IT security field, and have a decent understanding of ISP operations, etc. Cox service was as advertised, and I ended up getting both cable internet and voip phone service with them. Now, if I could only get them to send me a bill on time. So every other month I get a collection notice from them for a bill I have never seen. I have called in multiple times, visited my local office, and have basically been told that they don't know why I am getting a bill. Every time I get a different answer. The thing that sucks is that I am out of choices... I have had bad experiences with both of the ISP that service my area. Apparently, it must be me.

    Cox support? or lack of?

Since july 15 2009 I've had 13 service trucks to my house! Cox has completely rewired my internet and BASIC ANALOG tv.
Tv is grate now but my internet speed is worse than bouncing a ping pong ball cooking for consistency! 13 techs have 13 different specs there working buy whats up with that?

Set up auto-pay with a credit card or banks account.
And have them e-mail the bills rather than send them by USPS.

Never set up auto pay with Cox (or anyone else). In the event of a billing problem it is up to you to get your money back.

Every COX Tech is differently trained

In San Diego, Cox uses contractors, so the quality ranges all over the map. We have had 3 different TV guys - the last one was excellent and resolved all the issues. The Telephone guy keeps coming back and is clueless so we live with "just-barely-phones" by COX. Our Hi-Speed Internet service is definitely not Hi-Speed and the connection fades out completely several times each day; the tech support phone people routine refuse to escalate and blame it on Microsoft Outlook which they don't support and has nothing to do with the connection. Even when we do have service, the speed is only about 175% of AT&T DSL, but , COX refuses to send a Tech to look at the problem. If you have an option, e.g. Time Warner, take a close look!

I have COX preferred. It took the place of AT&T DSL. I had AT&T for 8 years on the 3M tier. I started having line trouble. Instead of fixing the line they moved me to the 1.5 tier.
