"Speed, 2nd level Techs"
"Cust Service, wire installers, everyone who comes to your door is subcontractor"
"Lack of quality control on every level of service - do not walk - run if you have where"
| |
With COX in Arizona, you need to watch out. Several observations:
(1) if someone calls and identifies as COX, most of the time they are - they are a sub-contractor;
(2) COX does not have ANY quality control system over what sub-contractors do and Cox has no published quality standards for anyone to follow or verify;
(3) COX does not have ANY way of having any specific sub-contractor to come to your home;
(4) COX will always take sub-contractor's word over yours;
(5) COX will collect the fees for internet, but if you dispute the fees for wire services (which are under their service contract - therefore should be free) they will turn of your internet and cable;
(6) COX will violate Fair Credit Billing Act and will challenge you to sue them before even investigating your claims;
(7) COX will not respond within 60 days as mandated by Federal Law to your billing dispute and will not obey the law mandated prohibition against retaliation.
(8) Cox subcontractors will damage your home inside and outside and Cox will not take any responsibility for it, but to decided your claim they will ask the sub-contractor if he indeed did do damage and Cox will take sub-contractor's word for it over yours.
(9) Cox will use sheet metal screws to attach wall plates; and Cox will install wall plates where they please and not where you need them; Cox will make holes in your celling; Cox will not make wall plates aligned neither to vertical nor to horizontal alignment of anything else; Cox will leave the dust, staples and stuff for you to clean up.
(10) COX will make notes when you call - but the notes will not reflect your orders or complaints.
(11) attitude of Cox employees is: we do what we want, we know better and sue us if you do not like what we do - apparently the example comes from the top.
(12) When you call to change service and honestly push the proper selection you will be put into a cue for at lease 15 minutes, and than the representative will say hello only one time before hanging up - you have no chance;
(13) On June 30, 2008 COX sent the price increase notice effective July 15, 2008 - increasing Basic Cable from $10/mnth to $21/mnth i.e. 110% increase along with a letter only nincompoops would believe.

Came home the other night, had some pressing business to take care of online, found my connection was down, cycled the modem several times, modem would not acquire. So I went to dinner. This happens somewhat often and usually comes back in a short while. While waiting for dinner, turned tv on.. 100% snow! About 2 hrs later, went back to see if outage had passed, no luck... So I bit the bullet and called support.. Was forced to go thru the mindless automated troubleshooting, and after it was unable to ping my modem, was handed off to a script-reader. I asked them when the outage in my area was estimated to be corrected.. He told me he showed no outage, and wanted me to go thru the "disconnect modem from router, connect direct to computer"... I reminded him of the tv AND HSI outage... The drone kept insisting there was no outage... Having had this same exact scenario happen about every 3-4 months, I decided to call it a night, and sure enough, the next morning, all was working again... A coworker at my dayjob worked as a Cox support tech for a while, and told me the tier 1 support people have two screens that show outages, one right in front of them, showing global outages, and another, where they have to get up and go look at, that shows localized outages... Apparently this is a case of either lack of knowledge or lazyness. Cox HSI is pretty good, as long as you don't need to call support, and from reading some of the horror stories about some other Cable HSI providers service/support, I thank my lucky stars I have Cox in my location...

"Reliability is good -- impressive uptime, problems fixed quickly"
"You'll see about a tenth of your bandwidth if you're lucky. Congested, at least in my area."
"For the price you get good reliability, but the lines are apparently pretty congested. We're looking to switch."
| |
This review is for over 10 different COX business connections that I administer around Baton Rouge.
I noticed that the site wanted more COX reviews, and I have a lot of experience with them. I registered solely to post this review.
Let me first say that the uptime is really surprising for a cable connection. Also, outages are fixed quickly, and I receive prompt responses from my sales contact whenever I want to setup new sites.
However, the amount of throughput that you actually receive compared to the amount of bandwidth that they advertise is comical at best. I have one "3 meg down" link that starts having 500+ms pings to the default gateway when the traffic passed across the router exceeds 300K/s down. I contacted COX about this and a tech came out (quickly, I'll add). However, he pretty much told me that I'd have to upgrade the amount of bandwidth I purchase if I wanted this to change.
As I'm writing this I decided to get an up-to-the-minute test. I am currently on a "10 meg down" connection from COX. At 800K/s down the ping from the router to the default gateway exceeded 100ms.
If you're thinking about going with COX do your research around your area and see if it's congested or not. I don't doubt that it's a great service if you happen to have a lightly loaded node, as the reliability and the price are both on point. However, we will be moving all locations from COX to another provider within the next year, as the bandwidth is simply not anywhere close to the rate advertised.

I had ATT. DSL, for about 4 years...., Just got tired of the run around. and the add ons, just time for a change. I had the 1.5 speed but the best thay could get me is 1.1 or 1.2 at the best.. So I went with Cox I've had it about 2 months so far,, so good.. I'm on the 7 mg speed now, but going to do the 3 months at $29.99, then go to the 1.5 speed at $26.99, I'm retired, can;t aford the good stuff,, plus I just do a little surfing and reading so that will work good for me. Will let ya know how it goes in a few months. Update 7/2/08...Very Happy with Cox.. Service has been very good... The 1.5 speed is alot faster than the 1.5 speed of the DSL that I had with ...ATT... Customer service has been real good & fast.. & get to talk to a real person faster too...... so I'm very happy with what I have..

Well after the problems with earthlink i thought i start looking for a new ISP.I Always wanted to try out Cable so i thought this was a good time to try it.Im glade i did speeds are very good and Very little if not no packet loss.The only thing i wish they Did was up that upload to 384.I seen they had 4/384 for almost 80 dollars i thought that was way to expensive for what it is.If it was a lower price i would of got that easy.The install was also very Painless and easy..
Update(its been a while)
Well they have updated the speeds in Cleveland to 9/1 pretty good Yet they still have the same Routing Problems west they always had from the time i started using them the east side of the US is still good.so all in all I just droped the Connection Reliability from 5 to 4.Im still holding out hope they change this(Routing) sometime.
10/27/07

COX speeds are good, however, I have had nothing but trouble since switching from my Windstream 3Meg DSL to COX 12 MEG cable.
I ordered and picked up my equipment, which saved me a lot of money for the "professional" installation of my internet. COX did come and install the cable outlets, so internet hookup was fast and easy.
The cable modem supplied was a Motorola Surfboard SB5101.
If I can get my connection stable I would say COX is the best I have ever experienced in a ISP. But at this time, I cannot say that. I am almost considering going back to my trusty slower DSL.

| Update to my Review of COX Well, COX came out a couple times. Both times they were prompt, and very courteous. They decided to swap the modem to see if that was the issue.
Hopefully this resolves my issue. If not at least COX is trying and that makes me feel better. | |

Nothing really to say about the service. it's been extremely good. I would say it's even better than my work's T1 line provided by AT&T.

Cox blows AT&T out of the water on all fronts. I've never had one thing to complain about with Cox after 2 years. I just wish I could get more upload bandwidth (but who doesn't).

Webmail has gotten worse. For the past two weeks I have only a 50% chance of getting through regardless of the ISP, browser, OS, etc. from which I access. Cox' response is to ask me to dump my cache, i.e., the usual. On-line technical help referred me to a website that was totally useless. Cox at its finest. Firefox reports it is a server problem at Cox' end.
Since my last post, Cox seems to have resolved its problem with regard to speed in Uptown New Orleans, at least I am now reliably getting speeds of 4500kbps or greater. The Webmail is still terrible. For the moment, I am mollified. I waited a month before posting this because in the past I have seen improvements that are short-lived.
