They installed Motorola equipment. The time between order and install was next day service. I ordered the High Speed package @ $29.00/mth for the first 6 months. This included telephone and cable. After 6 months my bill was still only $93.00/mth. Service is very fast and efficient.

I signed up for Shaw's 10mb package in my new apartment and the installer showed up 5 days later (on time). Installer was very knowledgeable and helpful and had everything setup and running in minutes.

The speed is very reliable at 1.1mb/s download speed. There is occasionally some throttling during peak hours (maybe 2 or 3 times a week for a few hours). Shaw's throttling is nothing like Bell's. The throttling only seems to be when the node is busy (Thursday and Friday nights) and only on certain protocols (ftp). I have not tried torrenting on the connection.

I am very happy with the connection and have had 100% percent uptime since signing up 5 months ago.

The package has a cap of 100gb/month but I have not been penalized for going over... yet...

There is supposedly Power Boost enabled on my connection, it worked fine for the first couple of months, but stopped working after that. My installer told me it would only be enabled when there was spare headroom on the node. I have no reason to complain though because all of my downloads are fast and Power Boost wasn't the reason I signed up.

Have never had any reason to deal with tech support.

    UPDATE:

I moved a few months ago and getting service hooked up at my new place was as simple as a quick call to support and a tech showed up the next day to do the install. The 10Mbps package I used to have has now been upgraded to 15Mbps at no extra charge, and Powerboost seems to be working (I mean really working!) Download speeds for small files are around 3MB/s and large files hover around 1.8-1.9 MB/s. I do not download torrents from home (thats what seedboxes are for) but I have noticed that individual FTP transfers are throttled to about 350KB/s. This can be overcome by running multiple FTP transfers. However I usually use SFTP which is not throttled and I can usually pull a steady 1.9MB/s.

The cap on my connection is 100GB/Month, however I usually use 200GB/Month and have not had to pay any overage charges yet.

I have been with Shaw High Speed in Sault Ste. Marie for a year now. I took advantage of a 2 month free trial, and free install. This allowed me to do a side by side comparison with Sympatico. I was quite happy with Sympatico but they can't come close to Shaw's speed. The installer showed up on the agreed upon day and on time. The installation was straight forward. I already had the network card so the cover didn't come off the PC. The modem is a Terayon and there have been no problems with it. The IP isn't static as far as I can tell but it seldom changes. I thought I was getting 5 mb /1 mb but apparently it is 8 megabit down. I haven't seen any speed like that. Around 5 mb is the best and frequently tests at 3 to 4 mb. No complaints with that speed as it serves my needs very well. The outcry over download limits doesn't affect me as I stay well under 5 gigabytes. The only complaint I have is Shaw's smoke and mirrors pricing. When the last price increase came along the full package subscribers were supposed to be exempt the High Speed increase. My cost went up! I didn't rate tech support because I haven't needed it.

In response to an "Update your review prompt".

I've experienced one 7 hour outage which was due to a car hitting a pole and taking out a fiber optics cable. So not Shaw's fault. Speed is still good and at times better.Perhaps this node is not heavily used? Download speeds range from 1.5 Mbits to 5 Mbits depending on net weather. Upload is always around 475 kbits. Shaw credited me a day when I complained about the 7 hour outage. High speed now costs me $37.95 as I purchased the modem. I needed technical support twice in the last year as I could not access the Internet. The tech was correct with the solution first try on both occasions. Shaw still rates 2 thumbs up in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

I've just finished a 4 and 1/2 month trial of Extreme Speed. It was great and speed was as advertised. The last statement received prematurely ended the Extreme trial period discount and the bill jumped $10. In addition, Shaw, so as to not lose revenue in the trial period unbundled my services. In other words I was offered a trial service at a cost of $10 less than my regular subscription but it ended up being only $2 less. Seems a slimy way to do business. I would have paid full price for another 6 months of Extreme service after the trial if Shaw had not be so money hungry. The devious pricing aside, the service in Sault Ste. Marie is great.

UPDATE: as requested an update. Shaw Internet is still excellent. I follow the Bell Forum and have been with Bell Sympatico before so their services would never be considered. I have bundled High Speed Internet with Shaw's basic telephone. The whole package comes in at $53 before taxes. The 7.5 Mbits downspeed is pretty well constant subject to net weather It would be nice if upstream could be closer to 1 Mbit rather than the average 450 - 480 kbits that I see. I realize that there seem to be much fewer service issues in Sault Ste. Marie than other areas Shaw services. I would recommend Shaw to anyone in this area.

I'm not thrilled but I'm satisfied. Having moved from the US (Roadrunner) to Shaw in Canada, I saw a performance increase, decent reliability, and good customer service.

I'm 2 weeks in. There have a been a few speed issue but Shaw is dealing with it. Not as fast as I would like but things are getting better. They got the levels under control and now it's just a waiting a game for them to finish up getting the bandwidth figured out. I have been told the abuse team is dealing with it and it is getting better. I guess they have bandwidth hogs on my node.

Good work Shaw keep it up.

Well after constant problems with Telus I decided to get another tech out. He came and was nice enough to release me from one of my 2 internet contracts without penalty.

I decided to see what shaw was offering.

When I called in they were very informative and new there products. No pressure at all to hookup. They were more than willing to give me a day or two to make up my mind and work things out.

Day of install was great. Tech showed up exactly at 5pm. I asked he be there as early as possible and they came through. Although they say no promisses as far time.

First day of service was a bit rocky but after a call to support they figured out the issue and will have it resolved within the next week. Not a major issue but it is a pain at times.

Botton line shaw has gone though some major changes for the better since the last time I had any services with them. If things get fixed when promised and everythings continues the way it is I will be one very happy camper.

Well Shaw came in and installed Tv service. They got the TV working no problems but ran into level issues with the Internet. They got the internet fixed and now have to go back and fix the TV again. At least they did the node split before promised.

Well the service has been up and down and they have been having trouble find the problem....After 6 service calls they finally figured out there was a break in the line some-where and are working towards fixing the issues in fairly reasonable pace....

Bottom Line Call center is full of it......Field techs when they take the time to do there job right they work miracles......Bottom line Shaw field staff need to stop running there days buy the clock.....and actually fix things instead of passing it off....

I got Shaw installed two weeks ago and i must say that i am very pleased with my overall shaw experince so far. I ordered digital cable and high speed internet on a saturday and it was installed on a monday morning. The installer got everything working in 1 hour. showed us our tv guide and left. he cleaned up after him self and didnt leave a mess and was very professional. I ordered high speed internet at 19.95 a month for 3 months then after it $33.00 for internet when bundled with tv. the customer service reps are very friendly and in all very satisfied

    Yes it has

They took all my updates sped the fuck out of the netblock then reassigned me to a new slow as fuck one hoping I would do their job for them again because they seem to be too stupid to delegate their own network.

Telus has forced me to move to Shaw since they cannot support higher speeds in my area. Well, I'm glad i moved to Shaw Xtreme I. The service has been outstanding and i get much better speeds for lower price. Also my pings have lowered for my games. Overall, I'm really happy with Shaw.

I had recently relocated to Canada from the USA and did not have any information to open an account such as a social insurance number, Canadian credit history, etc. The account reps at Shaw were very helpful in working with my circumstances and getting my service established. They explained the different packages and did not try to force the most expensive package or bundled packages on me. The service was installed without problems a few days later. The installer was also professional and helpful in making sure everything works.

There have been occasional outages due to freakish Vancouver weather and I have been able to get a support representative on the phone with very little hold time and the issues are resolved a few hour later.

Shaw is constantly upgrading network bandwidth and rolling out DOCSIS 3.0. The speed upgrades have been automatic with no increase in prices.

Lucky you didn't move to the greater Toronto area, you'd be crying like a baby. Much higher prices, speed throttling and traffic shaping, no newsgroups and much lower speeds. When they roll out docsis 3 in Canada you'll wish you were back in America the caps here are a sick joke not to mention the prices will be at least quadruple what they are now in America for docsis 3 service.
