Well I am 25,000 feet from my CO and Project Pronto is going to be a while before it is finished. So I decided to get a IDSL. I have used Everyone's Internet for about a 1 1/2 years and have no problems. The ordering part was easy a couple of questions and that was all to the ordering process. I was told that it would be 4 to 6 weeks before my IDSL line would be installed, which was fine with me since I work for ASI I know about the different things that have to be done for the DSL to work. Well 6 weeks goes by and nothing. I notice a problem that seems to be a common problem wth all of the ISPs or DSL providors and that is there is no customer call backs when orders get delayed. Well thats what happen to my order it was put on a presale hold. So about well two months goes by and I decide to call and see whats going on well Ifind out that they are coming out to install the IDSL. Well I got No Accessed because my apartment manager did not have writtern permission to let them in. So I leave writtern permission and a week later a contractor comes out and tells the manager that he can not go into my apartment inless I am there. Well I could not take it anymore and I went to the MC10 and wired up my IDSL to the inside wire and then I installed my RJ-45 jack and configured my computer. All of that was supposed to be done by the no good contractor. Since then I have had no problems. Everything is working great an anything is better than 35k like I was getting. I can download songs from Napster in about 3 to 5 minutes instead of 25 to 45 minutes.

I came to Everone's Internet (ev1.net) as a Northpoint "ISP switch" from PhoenixDSL/Telocity, so I didn't have to re-live the pain and agony of getting new DSL sevice installed... I was able to have my existing Northpoint 208K SDSL static IP service "switched" to them. Apparently so long as the "switch to" ISP is a "Northpoint partner", the switch is a relatively simple matter.

When I first called EV1,the DSL sales team didn't seem to understand the concept of an "ISP switch" at all. It took several e-mails and phone calls to get to the right people, but once I did things happened fast. In just over 24 hours, I was completely switched over to EV1... not bad!

Everyone's Internet provides DSL service with unlimited POP3 e-mail accounts, 300MB of web space(!) with FrontPage extensions if you want 'em, and 24/7 tech support for $40/mo... same price as Phoenix/Telocity, but a lot better value and performance. Nice low ping times!

The bad news... and just I learned this today (1/18/01)... is that EV1 turned off their DSL sales lines and says they will be signing up no new DSL customers as a result of the Northpoint Chapter 11 filing. Maybe this is just temporary until they see how things go with NP, and maybe they would consider additional "ISP switches" who have existing Northpoint connectivity. Hard to say.

    Dan

Houston,Harris,TX
$40 per month (12 month contract)
about 145 days
Southwestern Bell
CLEC party: NorthPoint
"90% of quoted line speed. Good tech support"
"145 days from sign up to surfing. Sales staff lacking."
"The service is ok if you can take the wait."

EV1 needs to seriously revisit the way they are rolling out DSL to its customers. The sales staff is weak and the time from sign up to installation is ridiculous.

I will say that since my DSL has been up, I have been running at over 90% of my quoted line speed with no service interruptions. The tech support guys are pretty good and will spend time even on the stupid question.

All in all the service is what I expected but the 145 days to install was not.

For only $40 a month and everything else free, and since dsl is the only hi-speed game in my area, I can't complain too much.

Would recommend except for the wait from sign up to surfing!

Grapevine,Tarrant,TX
$40 per month (12 month contract)
about 60 days
Verizon (ex GTE)
CLEC party: NorthPoint
"Works good...no upload restriction speed.."
"I had to rewire my own house"
"for the money the best deal around here...but the price you pay is non existant support if there is a big problem"

For $40 a month EV1 offers to give you whatever speed you can get up and down. Does this mean 1.5 Mbs? No. But I know someone at GTE (Verizon) that says the phone company has to go out of it's way to make sure you have a good line to get that, and they don't. I actually get better upload speed than down (over 500 kbs down, over 700 up), which is something Verizon wants you to pay BIG bucks to get. And I get a static IP...I like that.

The installation by Northpoint was horrible. I wasn't there, my girlfriend was and she just couldn't stand up to him. He hooked it to an existing line IN ANOTHER ROOM and put in a 25 foot patch cable instead of running a new line. I got nowhere tring to get Everyone's Internet OR Northpoint to do a thing about it. I rewired it myself with CAT 5 cable and it works like a dream now.

An update - when I called to activate my 300 megs of webspace and e-mail accounts, I got right through to tech support - no hold time at all. My connection has been reliable - no down time in the last two months.

This is my first time giving any kind of feed back to you guys, so kind of bear with me. I live in the suburbs of Houston, TX. Everyone's Internet (ev1.net) is a local ISP. They sold me Northpoint DSL. I'm sure everybody's heard good and bad things about Northpoint, and I can vouch that most of those things are true. I ordered back in late July. EV1.net said great, we'll sign you up. They made me pay the $30+ sign up fee at that time, which is cool with me. They tell me it will be from 4-8 weeks... what can I do? I wait. I don't hear anything from them for a month. I check in late August, and they told me that Southwestern Bell (the local Bell company) will be installing my line in a few days. Great, I thought. Bell did the outside wiring without me having to be home, so no time wasted so far. Northpoint then called me the day after to tell me my DSL modem is on its way. BTW, the modem was FREE, so that was another good thing. It's a cheapy 3Com SDSL modem... what do you expect for it being free? I also made appointment for line provisioning by NP for 3 days later. It was a weekday that I already had off, so I didn't have to take extra time off. The guy came out and said that he couldn't hook it up because the pair he was trying to use was not connected to the demarc outside. "We'll have to reschedule since I don't have any equipment to run a new cable for you, and I don't know the house wiring well enough to redo the wiring inside. We'll come back out and have the stuff ready." GRRRRR.... why didn't he have everything ready the first time he came out? Oh well. The tech left, and NP called immediately aftwards to reschedule for 5 days later. After the tech left, I called the guy who did the phone wiring in my house... it being a new house, he still remembers how he did it. Turns out my house is wired in series, and they only reconnected one pair at all the phone jacks in the house. I went out and bought some splicers at Home Depot, and spliced the second pair of phone wires through out the house. Lo and behold, my line is live (checking with a toner). I hooked in the DSL, hooked up my modem, set up the NIC with the IP addresses that NP mailed with the modem (reads: I get a static IP), but it still wasn't working. Called ev1.net, and their answer was, "We are experiencing large volume of calls, please leave a number and we'll get back to you within 48 hours." Call me spoiled, but that was unacceptable. I called NP, and they said that since I'm a resell customer, they cannot do anything for me without somebody from ev1.net telling them so. The tech at NP was a nice guy though, and he called up somebody at ev1.net. They went through and did some resetting or something... all of a sudden I was up (hahaha... a switch some where must hav been flipped). Strangest thing. I still have some speed issues, but that can wait until the tech comes out tomorrow. At least I have DSL now. Another thing I need to mention is that ev1.net says they will provide you with the fastest DSL possible to where you live and still charge you the same price ($40 per month). I don't know how much of that is true, but I took their word for it. Right now I'm bouncing between 100k and 300k, so that's what the speed issue is about. A couple of things to note about ev1.net: the person who sold me the DSL service did not seem very knowledgeable, and the few times I called tech support it seemed they were always busy or have some people other than a tech field my call. Seems to me that the ISP just have a lot of warm bodies there to give you a warm and fuzzy feeling when you called. One last thing is that this DSL is not shared with your voice line; Bell installed a new line for me, so that's kind of good.
