Was a Comcast customer for years...tried Verizon DSL for a while because of the price, it was a nightmare. Back with Comcast and so far so good. I have a tri-bundle...Internet, phone and TV...for 139.99 plus tax. I get more than my advertised speed and only down time I had was due to faulty modem which was replaced next day. Got a credit because tech had to come to the house. All in all I'm very satisfied with Comcast.

    My Other Reviews·Verizon Online DSL
Have had Comcast HSI for 18 months now. Speeds are fast, never had connection problems, no problems sharing it over home network.

Yeah it's a little expensive but for where we live in NH we have 2 choices: Fairpoint DSL 768k or Comcast . Went from $12/mo to $52/mo but for me the speed was worth it. My fiance thinks it costs too much but when she watches streaming TV and movies I remind her we couldn't when we had Fairpoint DSL 768k. (Fairpoint couldn't upgrade us to faster speeds, said wire in neighborhood couldn't handle it, no plans to upgrade lines here either)

From the beginning I have been having problems with this company. Although I enjoy the services and connection speed, reliability is completely lacking. I've had many techs come to my place, say the signals are fine, and leave. Almost always they say it's the splitter that is causing the problem. I've finally gotten a tech recently that says he will come back and rewire the main line coming to the building, but we will see if that makes a difference.

When one calls tech support, they are greeted by well intentioned albeit totally clueless people who rely purely on the tools and script in front of them in order to operate. The way they try to blame connection problems on the router is almost shameless. There also seems to be a disconnect between techs and the tech support as they always claim that they were not informed about the specifics of my problem, even though the person on the phone said that they were notating it in my problem report.

Comcast does offer good service, they definitely have the means to, but when it comes to customer relations, it seems that there is a problem. It may be that certain problems cost money and time and so they don't want to deal with them, but I don't think it's fair for someone to wait so long to have a problem fixed. I've already screwed up on multiple online assignments as my connection drops at just the wrong moments.

It's a large company, as everyone knows, so depending on the area, your results may differ.

Have had Comcast HSI for ~ 1 year now. Has worked out great so far.

On the initial install, even after telling the sales rep I had my own modem, the tech showed up with a modem in hand. He installed my modem and had the line re provisioned. However, my first bill had a charge for renting a modem.

Called a CSR up, and they were quick to fix the error.

Over the past year, have had almost no downtime, and the speeds have been very reliable.

Over all, a great service for the money.

    My Other Reviews·Vonage
    ·Millennium Digital..
Well it has been several years since I have placed a review on Broadband Reports. I'm now back with Comcast since I moved back to Baltimore City. The service so far has been excellent 100% up-time during my waking hours. The TV service has allot to offer except my Boomerang but I just found out I can get that on demand! I have been packaged in a special promotion for a year so the cost is great at this time but the regular price would be awful I am looking at over $200 for the service that I have.

Overall I give Comcast a solid grade A for a great effort they are putting in the customer service side of things. Had a miner connection issue with the coaxial cable connecting the HDTV converter to the TV. They knew exactly what the problem was and showed me how to fix it.

The internet is consistently testing at 10 to 15 megs down and 1.7 to 2.3 megs up. So am satisfied with the connection of the internet. Average ping is between 33 and 57 hops so good pings for gaming.

I will update if situation changes.

    My Other Reviews·Vonage
Since the recent upgrade Comcast has become very unstable with many issues in the system. On weekends when the neighborhood is online, service is fluctuating all over the place.
Easy install and Motorola modem is nice. Ip addresses change every now and then.4mbps downloads are reachable but at peak and then averaging mid 3 megs. Uploads are advertised at 384. Averaging high 350's. I would jump to DSL but not available yet, after 3 years.

***Months have passed since the review was written above. Now my speeds has literally tripled. Looks like upgrades don't go as smooth. Customer needs to be informed locally of maintenance on service. Seems to me that there is a communication break down between the national support and the locals.

*** It has been almost a year since my last update. I had to eliminate the cable television because the promo expired and it got too expensive. This change automatically downgraded me. I used to be at 8mbps, now its cut in half at 4mbps. Speed tests show me higher than 4 which isn't that bad. Some sites tests actually hit the 7mbps range, but I think it only measured the initial burst peak. I haven't had any service interrupts at all.
    DSL still not available......

    5-11-2007

The new Double Speed burst works out great! 8 mb bursts up to 16mb. When performing bandwidth test I get burst speeds of 30mbps... Which seems unreal... Within the past 2 months my upload bandwidth went from 384kb to 1500kb or 1.5mb. Uploading pictures on Yahoo Photo's or Photobucket is a breeze. Sending emails with large attachments is fast too.

    12-09-2007

Ever since I received the upgrade speed burst I've had nothing but problems. My node is oversold and at peak times my MS is over 500ms. My download rates are as low as 2mbps at peak and during speed tests it crawls up to 2mbps. Everywhere I go on BBR and the Comcast forum is complaints about crowded nodes.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Comcast is making my connection worse as a ploy to get their Digital Voice telephone service.

    1-28-2008

After 8 months of scratching my head wondering why I'm having periodical latency issues my problems have finally been fixed ("knock on wood"). I can actually thank this site (dslreports.com) for helping me fix the problem. I was getting nothing but sympathy from the locals on the Comcast help Forum. As I look at the history of my posts I can see that the latency problem was developing long before May of 2007, but it seems that in May it was the straw that broke the camel's back. We'll see how long the quality of latency lasts until Comcast signs up another 400 people.

    9-30-2008

Pretty solid all summer long Every now and then I do see a latency spike but not to the point of an annoyance. The free upload upgrade to 1MB is good with speed bursts up to 2MB before dropping back down. My VOIP quality is acceptable

    7-1-2009

The free doubled speeds I got around May are a real convenience. Sustained upload's over 2 Meg are present at all times. Uploading files is a breeze. The new download speed of 12 Meg is awesome too. I can download a 700MB file in just about 8 mins flat. Don't get any better than that. When performing VOIP tests my QOS % can reach 99% at times which was almost unachievable in the past. Download powerboosts are only peaking around 16 megs. Before it was 20 & Up but I'll accept the sustained speed of over 12 meg.

Just bought a house in Missouri City, Texas, (Austin Parkway & Cross Lakes, precisely the Heritage Colony subdivision of First Colony)

I scheduled for a Thursday (had to take a vacation day) so that i can wait for the alarm guy on the same day. The appointment was for 2-5pm. Well after 4:55 pm rolled around, i called Comcast to see what is going on and to my astonishment, they said that the appointment was not in their "system" . Huh? I just spoke to someone on Monday about this.. so he knowing that i was getting mad said that he'll reschedule the install next wednesday but will call if he can find someone here quicker. I agreed.

Monday morning, someone from Comcast called and said that they are coming between 1pm-4pm. Great that's good news! But I'm at work i told him.. he was really nice though and said that he'll call me when he gets to my house and since I'm only 10 minutes away he'll wait for me.

Moving right along, he was very professional and did the install in about 40 mintues, they had to drive off and connect to the "main box" Anyway I'm getting 12mb down 2 mb up.. since they messed up my initial appointment. They gave me $19.99/month for 12 months which is not a bad deal considering i CANNOT get any other Broadband services out here!

The service has been very stable since i have installed, I'm consistently getting 12mb down and my uploads are between 1.5mb and 2mb. I upload lots of pictures and large files so it is really better than the Windstream DSL that my mom has in her house...

Overall, other than the botched install appointment, i'm quiet happy with them.

I have been a Comcast subscriber for 5 years now and overall there service is good. I only have had two issues with them during the 5 years and the second one has occurred recently. I reported the problem to Comcast and they tell me that there are no problems. I have waited it out and it seems the issue has resolved itself. Overall, I do like Comcast and I do have Fios in my area, so I could switch at any time, but I am willing to stick with Comcast at this point (I also fear change, especially with a working ISP). I do recommend Comcast because the installation is easy as 1,2,3 and in my experience, the customer service has always been friendly and helpful, but I rarely call as well.

Portland,Multnomah,OR

"fast, reliable"

"You get what you pay for, but it sure does cost a lot."
Pre Sales information:

I've had Comcast HSI for a little over a year now, I really liked having ATT DSL but moved out of ATT territory and the only telco offering DSL to my address is Qwest. Now, I've had enough problems with Qwest in the past that I don't want to ever go back to Qwest for any reason, even if it was advertised to save me a million dollars a month I just won't do it. Qwest has never sent me a bill that matches the rates promised and they make you wait on hold for hours on end before addressing the charges, which they improperly credit forcing you to call back and waste more time on hold to get it resolved correctly the second time around.

So I went with Comcast, I did the triple play bundle which was pretty competitively priced for the first year at $33/mo for internet, but not nearly as affordable as the $19/mo I was paying ATT for DSL. I never had any problems with either the VOIP service or HSI, the internet has come up every time I've turned on the computer and the phone has worked every time I've lifted the receiver, except for once a couple days after the service was installed, rebooting the modem solved the problem. With DSL I'd have to reboot the modem or router once a month or so, not so with Comcast HSI, it has been as dependable as a Maytag washing machine.

I had problems with online webstorage and FTP uploads, apparently Comcast was upgrading the capacity of the online storage from 15mb to 1gb and had some major problems, issues started in November when I was only able to connect to the FTP server occasionally if at all, then the files on the Comcast server became unavailable, once the files were restored from a backup there was some other problem where images couldn't be hotlinked. The FTP issue was resolved for me in late January, I filed a trouble ticket in December and was notified that the ticket had been closed even though intermittant problems continued, the techs said they couldn't replicate the problem and refused to follow the steps I was using to force the problem on my end, someone must have aknowledged there was a problem down the line when thosands of other customers complained and it was resolved without any fanfare or apology. Comcast continued to ignore thousands of complaints about hotlinked images stored on their servers saying it was a problem with IE, even though no updates had been released during the time the problem began. I received an email saying that the upgrade to 1gb online storage space has been complete a few days ago and mysteriously the problem that Comcast said didn't exist with hotlinking images has dissapeared. You be the judge, when you pay for internet service are you paying for an internet connection or are you paying for an internet connection and the extra features like online storage and email? I feel like for the amount billed, the extra features should work flawlessly.

My biggest gripe is that after the promotional offer expired the rates nearly doubled. I went from $33/mo plus $9 modem rental to $55/mo plus the modem rental, they give a $10 discount for having bundled services still but my total bill is about $160 for internet, phone and TV. When I signed up the potential rate hike was disclosed, but the verbal promise was that the promotional rate was a $10 discount and after the promotion ended rates shouldn't be raised more than the $10 discount. They really miscommunicated, the rate increase for internet service was $10, the increase for VOIP was $10 and the increase for cable TV was $40, the total increase in my montly bill was nearly $60/mo. I'd really like to be closer to $100 for the three services so I'm going to be keeping the HSI (since it's the only provider aside from Qworst) but cancelling the other services and going with Vonage VOIP and satellite TV. I was dissapointed when I called Comcast to let them know I was considering terminating services, I thought they'd give me a 6 month extension on the promotional rates, or offer a new package with better rates. The refused to give me any deals so I refuse to continue using their service, their normal rates are about 50% higher than the competition and service hasn't been any better than what we've gotten in the past from other providers.

Update 6/09: Still with Comcast, still no major complaints other than the price, the rate plan I had subscribed to was discontinued so I was bumped up to the new minimum speed for an additional $5/month. I was happy with the speed I was getting and would have rather spent the $5 on a hamburger but there wasn't much choice, the rate change happened automatically, all I could do was hold on for the ride. I am convinced that the difference between 4mbps and 12mbps is imperceptible for general web surfing, as I don't download heavily or play online games I see little to no benefit but my wallet feels a little lighter.

I get lots of junk mail from Comcast, usually 3-4 advertisements per week. They are in fact offering specials that I'm not eligible for as an existing customer, finally it occured to me that I could call and request to be removed from the marketing database, it's only been a couple days, we shall see if the junk mail stops.
