Nothing but headaches with Comcast since we put it in. Struggled with it for a year until the contract was up. Tech here this morning to swap modem. Slow now but at least it's up.
Switching back to sbc dsl here very soon.

November 19,2009...AND THEY SUCK a little less than last year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They have improved in a number of areas, be it on there own or under public pressure. They've replaced poor service with strict limitation, which when violated result in throttling your connection down.
The increases in speed have made the service more enjoyable and I'm happy about that. Looking at the trend in online entertainment and communications, this limit on full utilization of your "unlimited" connection will be a source of friction soon. The option would be to use the Comcast phone service (instead of a cheaper option) so you're not peanalized for the bandwidth there and get Cable TV instead of trying to enjoy services like Hulu or Netflix on a daily basis. Oh and don't over do it with all the online offering of gaming/entertainment with Wii, PS3, XBOX 360 or any other web enabled device in your home....wait this kills the whole reason for swallowing the price of a high speed, always on broadband connection and all the stuff it "could" allow you to do, doesn't it?
For the "average Joe", myself included, Comast does the job with a few minor bumps along the way. I still have dreams of a fiber optic ISP in Northeast Florida and hope that they will offer a low price and get everyone connected as opposed to charging a second mortgage only a few can afford.

I found a great offer from comcastoffers.com - $19.99 a month for 8Mbps down, 2Mbps up plus $100 rebate. . .that definitely beat Verizon's DSL offer. In my area FIOS is currently unavailable, so I was basically stuck with Comcast anyway.
The order process was a bit convoluted to say the least. The web portal for Comcast offers provided no link for submitting an order, it only provided an 'order confirmation number'. I called Comcast who then stated I had to order by chat session...the chat session helper then redirected me to a special offers line, where finally after three tries was I able to order my service.
Install was good. . .with a Webstar DPC2100r2 modem connection in house, and a Netgear WNR2000 switch to complete the combo.
One bad thing was the reconnect fee attached to my bill - I'm a new Comcast customer yet they're trying to charge me for a 'reconnect'. That's $32 I don't owe and will not pay. Please beware of reconnect fees if you are a clean install (new customer).
All in all, service has been satisfactory and the special promotion was hard to pass up.

"Fairly consistent speeds"
"several outages and disconnects in the past two months culminating in a 2 1/2 day outage week of May 23"
"Speeds are usually as advertised but experienced a lot of disconnects"

I started out with Adelphia cable Internet five years ago. After a shakey start service was pretty stable and very reliable. Download speeds were inconsistent.
Comcast bought out Adelphia and officially I was switched over early this year (2007). Since Comcast took over my 6mb down and 768kb up has been reduced to 4mb down and 384kb up without a decrease in cost. The 4mb download speed seems to be more consistent now then before.
In the past several months I have experienced numerous disconnects from the Internet, with the modem logs reveling a lost of signal from Comcast. This culminated in a 2 1/2 day outstage the week of 21 May 2007.
My son has a friend whose parents both work for Comcast and they report the outage was due to a screwup on Comcast's part during an upgrade. Upgrades are good and minor outages are okay. I go to college and take some material including test online with the loss of connectivity this has impacted me but might not be as bad for those who only surf the web and do email.

Update 18 November 2009
Starting in late September started experiencing severe packet loss and with numerous interruptions to service eventually after calling comcast the issue went away, but shortly after this my Internet connection started dropping. In October had 3 tech visits scheduled but the tech's never showed up. Have been told that the issue is due to an older modem I have the Motorola SB-5100 as well I noticed that the issue seemed to be after a configuration update was pushed to the modem. Prior to these issues my service had been rock solid. To be fair in the past week I haven't experienced a loss of service.
Thanks
Steve

comcast gave me 12 months of a discounted rate of the blast package. I routinely get 16mb down and 2mb up. But when I test it I sometimes get way more than 2mb up. That's quite generous in my opinion. when I need to call support everyone is very friendly. They came out when they said they would. I brought my own modem and they helped me get it online. For the money, I think their product beats ATT in my region.

Getting a low latency, high bandwidth internet connection for a low price. Connection is solid. Get 14 down and 2 up. At&t Dsl can't offer me the same value.

I've had Comcast ever since it became available when it was Adelphia in my area, so this is not a new installation. I just got a mailer from Comcast saying they just doubled my speed, and to reset the modem to pick up the change.
I'm now getting 8Mb down and up to 1.5Mb up after a few quick checks in the evening. Sweet. I'm paying $42.95 for internet, in a bundle with analog TV.

With the transition from Time Warner to Comcast I was a little doubtful then my fears came true I had 6-7 hour outages (TV and Internet) for 2 weeks customer service was clueless why they were having trouble in my area. To top things off they raised our rates this is very frustrating because I can't get DSL I plan to downgrade to basic cable and keeping the internet because its to damn expensive.
UPDATE: I would have to say I'm impressed with the reliability. Since the last time I reviewed I can only think of one time it went down (And only for a hour). Also I have been unable to get power boost even though it is available in my area. Which is not a big deal but I would like to have it. The Digital Cable still have been a issue it goes down more frequently then with TWC but with the new programing and vast improvement of On Demand service (Including the many free things available) I still like it. My major gripe is they promised no price increases and they've had 2-3 now.
Overall I'm pretty satisfied and looking forward to DOCSIS 3.0 in the next year or so.
UPDATE: I recently upgrade to Blast! (16/2 in my area) tier and I'm really impressed with my speeds which have been advertised and a little more at all times. I purchaced a Motorola SB5101 when circuit city was closing and its been flawless and I'm able to get power boost finally with speeds around 25/3 on power boost.
