I switched from WOW in March. TWC offered a bundle with cable, internet, and voip.
Aside from a minor install problem (which was corrected the next day) everything went well. The turbo speed (15Mb down) is great. I only have 768K up but I really don't upload much so for me its not an issue. So far, so good.
Jan 2009 ISP has been very consistent with speeds. Aside from the usual slowdowns at peak times, and even these are not really a problem. At this point I am very happy with Roadrunner.
Sep 2009 Nothing has changed since Jan. A couple of outages due to weather but thats about it. The usual slowdown with cable at peak times but acceptable.
Just wish RR would increase the upload speed, 768 Sucks.

There's no question that in The State of Hawaii RoadRunner (Oceanic Cable) is the go to ISP. The cost is higher than the DSL competitor, but it's worth the extra expense when you compare the level of service offered. The choice is a no brainer when the dismal CS offered by the DSL competitor is factored in. I won't mention them by name because whenever I do my office suffers mysterious phone outrages.
No issues whatsoever. The last outage was attributable to Hawaiian Electric beyond that it's been a few years since the last outage.
The speed is more than adequate.

One day our AT&T adsl modem died for the second time this year and we had to call our IT guy for help. When he arrived I asked some question and fortunately I mentioned the price we were paying for 4 AT&T business phone lines, elite internet + international long distance calls. Our total monthly bill is/was around $700 a month!
Our IT guy recommend us to talk to TimeWarner and get an estimate on the services that we currently have so I gave TWCBC a call and to my surprise I got an estimate of $187 a month for 4 business lines and 10/1 internet. I asked the salesman what was the catch and he said there was no catch so the next day I placed the order.
The order confirmation arrived in the form of a 5 page digitally signed pdf document our IT guy filled out the form and sent it back. The work order included phone numbers port. 8 days later our IT guy called me and informed me that the installation was scheduled for wednesday (10 days from placing the order)
The installation day came and it took around two hours. When the TWCBC technician left we had 4 new phone lines and 10/1 internet. Our IT guy spent the next two days cleaning up decades of AT&T's neglect on the internal wiring, probably 2 thirds of the internal wiring was removed. The inside of the access cabinet looked like a rat's nest.
I ran a speed test and got a solid 10240Kbps down and 967Kbps up.
The funny thing is that AT&T called and offer us a discount of about $400 but it was too late in the process. I asked the AT&T representative why they didn't call me before and she said that this promotion was recently introduced in September 2009, what a bunch of *%^$.

Beats fios on price and quality.
Just switched from fios back to rr
fios to many issues, lowsy customer service and crazy billing practices, and not fast for that high price, slow browsing.
stick with RoadRunner!
$35.95 per month for 6 months of 7mb Roadrunner, then it will go back to normal price of just $49 which is still great.

I removed my previous review of Time Warner in Columbus, Ohio since I've lived in Reynoldsburg an East side suburb for 2 years now. The review of Time Warner was no longer pertinent to my current situation. The review below is of Insight Communications and their offerings and service.
Insight/Roadrunner – Reynoldsburg
In August, 2008 I moved from my house in Merion Village, Columbus 43207 to Century City which is a large apartment complex in Reynoldsburg, Ohio 43068. The only cable ISP available in Century City apartment complex is Insight Communications or Dish Network satellite. Insight offers the same 3 services that Time Warner offers which are cable, TV and telephone. Insight uses Roadrunner carrier lines leased from Time Warner and the speeds both down and up are much slower than the advertised 7G down and 512K up.
Insight offers or sells their services at the apartment complex through one of their outside Sales Reps. The sales rep wasn't very responsive to my phone calls so I had to call him multiple times to get the service set up. I've had constant problems with their cable TV phone services. Their tech support reps via phone seem to be very uneducated about the technologies they're supposed to be supporting, can't troubleshoot on their own, they read everything from script, and their English is so bad that they're hard to understand.
I spent 2 hours on the phone with the web page tech support and still don't have my 8 page web site available for viewing.

| Sorry for delayed response Hey folks I apologize for taking YEARS to reply to your responses to my review of Time Warner's RoadRunner. I created that review during my first week of membership and the only thing I can say is that I was a newbie with no idea of the intricacies of BBR/DSL Reports. There's alot to learn when first joining this site and it doesn't all just jump into the head if you know what I mean.
First to W8ASA since he replied first I had DSL once when it first came out and compared to the speed of broadband cable it's at a snails pace. I could never be happy with that slow of speed. Yes I know that DSL speed is a function of distance from the CO since I was one of the SBC Project Managers who was responsible for installing some of the first commercial DSL lines then later residential. Afterwards I went on to helping install the big router/switch in the sky at the Chicago Ameritch/SBC/AT&T internet access point that's owned by the phone company. So I'm reasonably familiar with DSL or at least I was familiar with the technology as it was in 2001 which is when I was layed off. I understand that the technology has changed in leaps and bounds since then.
Currently I give private software lessons to users in their homes on their own computers. Many studies have been done that come to the conclusion that people learn best on their own machines in a familiar environment and at a 2 hour time limit. After 2 hours the mind starts to wander to what the wife and kids are doing, what's for dinner, do I need to pick up the dry cleaning on my way home, what's the condition of the lawn, does it need mowed when I get home before it rains, the list goes on ad infinitum.
I might not be totally up to date on what the industry is doing right now, especially considering the problems I have with Insight Communications which is the only cable company that serves Century City Apartments on Brice Rd. at Livingston Ave. in Reynoldsburg, along with Dish Network those are the only 2 options we have for Cable TV, Internet and VOIP Phone service. If you check our my Insight Communications review that I recently edited in my profile you'll read what my opinion on Insight Communications is. I've had problems with all 3 of their services since I moved into this apartment complex in July, 2008 and have a nice notebook log of all of the phone calls I've made on a almost daily basis to get them to help me.
Which leads me into the comment posted by wcnghj about the promotional price change ending. I was promised special pricing for a year but only got it for approximately 4-6 months.
Then twice this week I spent several hours per call on the phone to their web site support people trying to get my 8 page site previously on Time Warner Roadrunner moved over to 1 of 2 Insight Servers, and it's still not up or rather I should say that the public still can't see it and neither can I. The "off shore" support Rep. named Ray spoke such bad english that I could barely understand him and after asking him where he was located and being told their web site support was located "off shore", not in another country as I mentioned several of those but he kept saying no we're "off shore" so I assume they're on an oil rig out in the Pacific, Atlantic or Gulf somewhere.
Neither Ray nor his supervisor even knew what an FTP program was to upload my files. After the first call lasting 2 hours on Monday 9/14/09 I gave up for that night and didn't call back until last night. Last night a guy named Louis gave me the same answers though he did know what an FTP program was, but told me it would take him Supervisor 1-2 hours to get my 8 page site moved over and that the name of the site which is ohiomike would have a "squiggly little line in front of it in the URL". I can only assume he meant a Tilde though he didn't know the word. Again after several hours I gave up though he was able to get me the settings for CUTE FTP LE which is a free FTP program so that it appeared I was uploading my files but again they aren't visible.
If there was another cable choice in the Century City Apartment Complex even a company like WOW I'd switch. I'm staying with Insight though because I don't have any experience with satellite and Insight Communications does offer the phone with unlimited local and long distance service for a flat fee of $25.00 plus $2.50 for my unlisted number. That's a pretty good price since I do alot of long distance family and friend calling.

I live in a very rural area of southern NY state (Hudson Valley). 20 years ago we did not have cable - we releyed on Satellite dish for TV. We had telephone service via Frontier. Long before DSL, I had a fractional T1 to the house - very expensive for poor service. Later I used ISDN and finally DSL. I never had reliable internet.
About 8 years ago, TW/RR became available, I believe we were lucky to get 1Mbps at the time.
Over the years, the service and speeds have continually improved - to the point where my Turbo Tier gives me consistent 30Mbps/1Mbps service. The service has been rock solid - very few issues. On the few occasions where there has been issues it was not simple - a bad piece of hardware out on the street. TW technicians worked with me to isolate and repair the issues quickly.
I have a Morotola SB Cable modem - still DOCSIS 2 and have multiple networks behind my router. I also have 2 Vonage adapters which share this connection.

Ordered 2000/384 and that is basically what I am getting for $45.00 a month. Called the company and with in 2 days they were here to install and about another 3 days to work out the bugs. Had DSL ($39.99) and their service was the worse. Unreliable and speeds no where near what they said i should have.
All I can say is "BEEP BEEP"

5-7-06 As requested, I've updated my ISP. The only thing that has changed is that wafen is getting a faster speed then me and keeps taunting me about it. I am still very happy with RR.
Here it is a year later (05-2007) and I'm still please with Road Runner. I'm getting faster speed too. I have been getting a DL over 6750+ MB and over 400 MB for UL. I am still paying the same price from when I first got RR.
(December 1, 2007) You guys don't give up do yous. Keep pestering me to give a review, well here it is. Happy? Now I can have 6 months of peace and quiet. :-Þ~~~~~~

We all gathered around the printer as it clicked out those fateful words "Ordered 2000/384 and that is basically ..". After we were done reading, and tissues had been passed around, we framed the review and hung it on our wall where, to this day, it still has the power to move vistors to tears." Oh the heartache, oh the pain...(sniff sniff). I guess all that is left is for me to leave my review. Just read above and you have my review. --- Oh yeah - you can at least use a spell checker. 9/17/09: Wanted to post a small update. Since its been all most 1 year since the last one. The broadband connection been been up and working without problems. But kinda wish RR would supply little more upload speed still. Roadrunner is still the fastest broadband available for our town.
9/25/08: Just a small update here. We now have powerboost on our Turbo internet plan. Our download speed can peak all most 30Mbps on speedtests. Upload speed did not change. Can't recall the date we got powerboost. Broadband connection been smooth without problems. Updated scores.
5/14/08: Around 8pm using a RR speedtest site. Showed my download speed was very low. Spent about one hour with RR tech support trying to fix it. They had me reboot the modem a few times. Plus run some tracerts and speedtests but I was still have problems. While the tier 3 tech was checking for more info about my problem. I rebooted the modem again for the heck of it. The modem downloaded a new firmware for it self. Now for some reason unknown my speeds are fine again.
7/7/07: Upgraded to the fastest speed available here. I'm now provisioned at 15000/768.
6/12/07: Around 10am, we ordered roadrunner. For our area fastest speed available is 5000/384. We got a install date for the very next day which was 6/13. The tech showed up around 5:00pm. Took the tech like 20 mins to do the work he needed. They supplyed the Motorola SB5101 series modem. Install went very smooth and got online without any problems. I'm getting around 4910/367 right now at peak time.

In my package I have the DVR Service, All 4 moive premiums (HBO, Showtime which includes the movie channel, Starz, and Cinemax) I also get access to a wide variety of movies with Movies on Demand, and Video on Demand. I have the digital phone with all calling features, and I also have RoadRunner Turbo which 8.0/768, TWC is cranking up the speeds next month to 15/2. I have all of that for 2 year promotion, for 140 a month, and my sales agents says he can renew it for me. I had TWC forever, they are such a great company. | |

clubs: | reason for outage Just some info. RR does network repairs and upgrades on wed. and Thur. after 12.00. Thats probably what caused your outage. They can last up to 6 hours if its longer than that its because an upgrade failed and they had to switch it back. | |

TWC NE recently (for a couple of months) seems to have upgraded the standard speed in my area to 10/512.
03/2008:
After a few weeks, the Turbo tier became more disappointing. I often got less than 6 Mbps down, and started to rarely hit 9+. I downgraded back to standard service, as I don't upload much anymore. Turbo was great when I first got it, but it went downhill, at least in my area. Reliability is still unrivaled at this point.
10/13/2007:
Just upgraded my service level to Turbo for only 9.95 more a month. I called in, and all I had to do was power cycle my modem. This got me 10/1 service, as opposed to my 5/384 before. So far, so good. A reasonable price made me change my mind about the next tier up. I guess 8/512 users (at least around my area) got the same upgrade, all that's needed is a power cycle. I'm just happy that even though there's no real competition around here, TWCNE finally decided to launch a reasonably priced second tier. Note, there is DSL competition, if you're close to the telco CO, that is. I thought 84.95 for 8/512 was a joke, and it's great the Time Warner New England finally realized that one.

Still having rock solid service, and have had no issues with service since initial review. The only issues that I have had were with my own equipment, and not Time Warner's. The only complaint I still have is the mediocre upload speed. I'm hoping those 7mbps upgrades do go nationwide soon, if they ever will.

I've had RoadRunner ever since I've been here, but decided to try the DSL for kicks. (I'm 21-22kft away from the CO) I'm never going for that again. For the 8+ months I've had RoadRunner in this location, I can't recall any outages that I've noticed in service. I'm lucky in that respect most likely, but I can't say enough about the stability of service. I've not had any noticeable speed fluctuations during certain times of day. It's always been around 4.5Mbps/384Kbps.
It'd be nice to have more upload speed standard, but I could always get some more by paying more, of course. The service works very well. I currently have a Vonage router, and wireless router attached as well. It's great to have the reliable RoadRunner service, as that means my phone rarely has problems, and when it does, it's Vonage's fault mostly.
I'd recommend RoadRunner cable internet to any of my friends/family. I won't comment on Digital Phone, but I've had nothing but great experience with the Internet portion of service..
