Was promised 3000 Kb connection at my new residence location.
Was connected at about 875Kb
After one month raised to 1500 Kb
Had to demand price reduction for first month
In week of 12/25/2008 there is a loss of DSL connection about half the time I turn off my PC. Problem continues. Prior to that, no problems for 5 years.
The package is a special for one year costing $25/mo and includes phone service - but is part of a larger package including dish network for TV - total cost about $110/month
The modem is an Embarq 660 series

I've been a bundled 1.5M DSL/POTS customer of Embarq from 8/08 with the $5 upgrade to the 3.0M plan shortly thereafter. Upon notifying Embarq of an upload slowdown (128K), by e-mail, I got a quick response back from Raymond B with suggestions to follow to correct the problem. When those suggestions didn't correct the problem I called tech support (less than 5 min. on hold) and worked with another tech and engineer to try and solve the problem and when that didn't work he had a tech out to my home the next day - Christmas Eve. That tech #11613 was very professional and solved my download problem so that I now have 3.5M down and 768K up. I can't complain after having been a customer of Direcway and Hughes for a number of years.

We have been waiting for years for broadband to come down our street. I am a big gamer and I haven't been able to play online until now and this highspeed is awesome. Embarq is very fast and reliable, we currently have the 768k plan but compared to satellite it is very very speedy. Thank You Embarq!

Can anyone provide an explanation on what happened with Embarq Email Services last week on the East coast- 17 Nov through 21 Nov 2008???

Embarq is not saying (surprised?)!

Email service was disrupted and totally malfunctioning last week and Embarq is not saying "what happened".

Customers at least deserve an explanation for why a paid service like Embarq Email was disrupted so badly for 5 days!!!!!!!!!!!

This kind of behavior by a major service on the Internet makes you want to switch companies ... as fast as possible!!!!! Maybe it's time to go with Fiber!

I'm rural, so any connection other than satellite or dial-up would get a good review from me. The fact that I got high speed at all is a direct result of being a dslr member. I have the 3Mb tier and it is great for my family's casual downloading and WoW playing needs. I have had zero downtime except for a couple of times rebooting the modem. I have not really had the need to call customer service, so I think that by itself speaks for the quality.

I have had service for 3 yrs here and only been out of service or had speed issues 4 times. Two of the speed issues were due to bottlenecks in other areas where fibre didn't have capacity to support all the data. These problems will arise from time to time just like dead spots with cell phones. I got 3.0/local /unlim ld/and dish 200 for about $125 month service has been good little trouble since I signed and my speeds are above usually what I pay speakeasy.net get normally 2.9-3.1. Also system 10 times better since sprint and earthlink out of picture.

This is an edited review. About 1 year ago, Embarq was giving me terrible service, and I rated it low. Now, everything is great. I'm paying for 3mbps DOWN and 512kbps UP. I get exactly that on Speed Tests, and on downloads. My ping in Counter Strike: Source are constant, and stay around ~70ms on servers that are close to me. No lag whatsoever. For those of you who are having problems with your Embarq EQ-660R modem and your Router, put the modem into bridge mode and it will solve most of your problems. I thought that Embarq was limiting my connection ability, but i was really a communication issue between my Router (Linksys BEFW11S4 v3) and the EQ-660R. Since enabling Bridge mode, everything works, and I am now able to even host a Teamspeak 2 Server! So overall, Embarq does a good job with providing quality service. The only con I have is that I would like to ping a little less in my CSS servers (maybe ~30-40ms) but other than that, no problems. And since Embarq now offers 10mbps connection, it's a better choice than Mediacom in my city.

*EDIT* I emailed Embarq about lowering my ping, they enabled FastPath, and now my ping times in CSS are aound 29-40 consant, so no more lag for me!

*EDIT 2* Well, It's been 200 days since I emailed Embarq about getting 10mbps service in my area, and I have yet to have 10mbps service. I was told that at a maximum of 120 days, I'd hear something; yet it's been almost twice that. I hope they get this service soon, so until then, the service score is at 2.

*EDIT 3* I checked the distance between me and the main station and it's less than 2 miles, so 10mbps was out of the question. So I ordered 5mbps and they said it would be on by 7pm my timne tonight. Well, I'm only getting 3.8mbps on speed tests. Obviously something isnt right. I also need them to turn on FastPath again.

I wish I would have dumped my cable company sooner. Embarq has offered me 5 mbps service at a comparable price to cable and they have delivered. My so called 6 mbps connection never hit 6 mbps and was very unreliable and I live in a new construction area!!! At times my cable connection was soo bad my Vonage wouldn't work and now I surf happy and game without lag. I say good job to Embarq! They have great customer service too, when you call them up you get someone local not someone in India.

I've had embarq dsl for almost 2 years with disconnects more than once every day. (i'm not kidding). Tech support just kept telling me over and over to install filters and don't use a long cord to modem, yeah well HELLO. Trying to them I've all ready been told this and to move on to next solution is a waste of time. So fustration led me to pursue other routes. Online help was useless but hidden away in the deep confines of embarq.com was a guide to upgrade the 660's firmware. All though it was an outdated set of instructions, common sence led to a succesfull upgrade of firmware and wouldn't you know after doing this 3 days ago I have not had one single disconnect. (knock on wood) IF ONLY CUSTOMER SERVICE COULD'VE TOLD ME THIS!!! It also improved my download speed from just shy of 2mb/s to around 2.79mb/s. So all and all if things keep up like they have since the firmware upgrade I would have to recoment Embarq in and around Holts Summit, MO.
