*Note: It isn't in the 70126 zip code (New Orleans, La) but in the 70458 zip code (Slidell, Louisiana)
We switched from Bellsouth to Network Telephone after they started to mess around and couldn't deliver more than 1.5/256 for a business. We had to have TWO ADSL connections just to keep our school and church running. Bellsouth didn't give us anything faster and everytime we were told that "We'll get your something faster" they never called back.
Network Telephone came in one day with a proposal. After I reviewed it then gave my comments to our office manger we decided to try them out. If they didn't work we could be able to switch back to Bellsouth DSL at no additional charge from Network Telephone. It has been amazing so far!
The installer knew EXACTLY what he needed to do. From the router, cabling, etc he had it done in about 1 hour. From time of order to actually going live was exactly 14 days.
We now have Caller ID, *69, *67 and amazingly fast speeds. Our download is still 1.5 megs but our upload, which we desperately needed for offsite backup, is also now 1.5 megs.
And as gman863 stated in their review: "it's like trading in your moped for a Porsche!"

When Network Telephone first contacted me (Local IT Manager for a retail furniture chain) about a year ago, I admit I was very skeptical about getting 9 business lines plus a real T1 for $495. At the time, our basic phone bill was about $550 for service, plus $150-$200 for long distance, plus another $79 for DSL through STC Communications for a static IP address.
Our DSL was pathetically slow to begin with. After Hurricane Katrina (although our business never lost landline phone service), we lost DSL for a week. STC had me jumping through hoops changing settings on our server for two days until one of their Special-Ed rejects finally contacted BellSouth and B.S. (the initials say it all) said it was a circuit problem and it might be up to 30 days until it was fixed! (Since our franchise has to place all orders via Internet, we might as well have closed up shop until it was up and running).
Figuring I had nowhere to go but up in terms of service, I finally gave in and agreed to let Network Telephone hook us up (with a written understanding that they would void the contract and pay our switch-back costs if they were as bad as BellSouth and STC).
Even with the post-Katrina chaos, they had us up and running in about 2 weeks. Their scheduling was flawless, and their install tech is so good we ended up hiring him to moonlight for us on new PBX installs! On the rare occasions where something has gone wrong (such as a dump truck taking down our incoming lines), Network Telephone has been fantastic on both their end and getting BellSouth to fix problems at their end. And the speed of T1 versus DSL -- it's like trading in your moped for a Porsche!
We've since switched our other two locations in Mobile to Network Telephone, and have contracted with them for our new locations opening soon in Biloxi, MS and Spanish Fort, AL.
Other pluses: Install fee waived on a year or longer contract. Almost all landline "extras" (caller ID, *69, etc.) are free (voice mail is the only extra cost option), as are 250 min. of long distance per line, web hosting, e-mail and even a toll-free # option (only cost on this is .06/min.).
The only downside? You have to order a package of at least 4 landline numbers as a bundle to get the T1 package and it's not available to home subscribers.
Bottom line: If you are currently spending $300 or more per month for your ISP, landline and long-distance phone combined (what Network's base package of 4 landlines, 1000 min. free LD and T1 starts at) -- or want true T1 at your business without paying a fortune for install and monthly service -- Network Telephone deserves serious consideration.

Network Telephone offered me a bundle package where I could pay for my local and long distance for my phone lines, and get DSL service thrown in. I was skeptical, but they have been in Gainesville for almost 4 years now and I was referred by a current customer who had them since early 2001. There was no installation charges and the box they put in stays Network's property so I didn't have to pay for it up front either. My bundle included E-mail and webhosting services, so now I save paying extra for that which I had not even considered when I already thought I was saving money.
Installation was fairly smooth, and the local engineer even stops by to check on me every now and then just out of the blue... Thats amazing. Their support is above average, and you get to talk to live people quickly, most of whom seem to know what to do or how to get you to the people that do, very nice for a change. My only complaint would be having to sign a contract, but that seems to be the same with most companies, and Bell South still owns the circuit lines so they still come by when the problem is in their crappy copper... I thought I was done seeing their Bell van pull up and ruin my grass.
So far I'm OK with them and probably will go with them when my contract is up!

My company has been using Network Telephone for over a year and have had no problems with the service whatsoever. We've really enjoyed our "leads for speed" increase! I am not a big fan of the local Bell, they have a "big company" mentality, and the customer suffers because they really don't care if you're unhappy with them. I really don't trust the local cable company because they soak their cable customers, I can only imagine what they will do to their broadband customers. Network Telephone has gone the extra mile to make us happy. The sales folks from other companies are harping on the financial side and "how long will they survive". I've seen too many CLECs come and go around these parts, I'm betting Network Telephone will be here for a long time.

Went to Network Telephone because BellSouth wouldn't/couldn't provide public static IP address necessary to VPN to the rest of our company. Installation was very good with knowledgable installer. Network Telephone gave us exactly what we needed and talked to me regarding the IP addresses assigned. We took it from their router to our Cisco Pix 560 router. Used it for VPN. My users in our Mobile office only see the company connections and mail. Cannot reveiew Network Telephone's mail, etc.

I was looking into getting dsl or all-in-one packages. Network Telephone was new to area, but had much better pricing than any other option. Signed up and was told 30-60 days for dsl since it was a new market. It took 4 months.
The installation crew guys were terrible. They came in with the router and hooked it up, and my computer would not connect to internet. They actually told me it was my problem, because everything looked fine on their end since they could ping the router, etc. I told them, it was their problem and they were going to fix it. Well after about 5 hours that day, they said they would be back in the morning. The next afternoon, one of them comes by and says, oh btw it was our fault, we programmed in the wrong gateway address.
So, anyways, during the next two weeks the service went down 3 times, and I couldnt access the mail server. Well, they claimed that was my fault, that something was wrong with my software, or I had set up something wrong. Surprise, about 3 days and 6 phone calls later it was mysteriously working.
So because of all the problems I had, they said they would upgrade the speed to 1.5 Mbps. That works, sometimes, but most of the time it is much slower.
Finally this week we get a letter saying they are pulling out of the market. Great, now I have to go through all of this again........

The DSL service is freee with five business phone lines. Also included is your web hosting and 100 minutes of long distance per line each month. This is a good deal for small businesses. We are a two lawyer firm and find ourselves depending more and more on the internet, so DSL always on service is really helpful. The baasic DSL service is 160K/160K, but the company has a "speed for leads" program that allows an increase for referrals.
The coordination withhthe local Bell could be vetter as far as install times, etc.
A technical manual for setting up e-mail and all the other features (in hard copy) would be helpful.

I recently switched to Network Telephone (NT) and it has been a great experience. There is some lag time between signing up and getting hooked up due primarily to BellSouth (BS), I found out that the amount of time that BS takes to hand off the service is provided for by law and BS always takes the maximum time that they are allowed. This reinforced my decision to switch. NT also cut the cost of my local telephone service in half (this includes the DSL service). The NT DSL service is much faster than the wireless service that I switched from, as well as much more reliable. NT also has a firewall built into their router, this is very important. If you get a high speed, always on, internet connection without firewall protection you are asking for big trouble. Don't make the mistake of assuming that you have firewall protection. If you are using a static IP address chances are that you are vulnerable unless your provider sells you an extra firewall appliance, and some of these cost several hundred dollars. I am part owner of a computer reseller/consulting firm and I have referred several customers to NT and have had nothing but positive feedback. If you want to save your company some money and make your boss think you are a genius, you need to contact NT.
Sincerely,
Jeff Wright Vice President Computer Service & Sales, Inc.

Signed up for service 10/17/00. I cancelled the order today (1/25/01) since the service was never connected. Original estimate was 4-6 weeks for service to be turned on. 4+ months later the company is still failing to provide service. The company should have thought about having a working system to sell before signing up customers. One good point, they did locate a good wire puller who ran the office lines cheap and on time.
If you are in Mississippi, I suggest going with WorldCom's wireless service. Its cheaper, provides up to 20 static IP addresses, tons of email addresses, more web hosting space and plenty of other perks. Best of all, they will be here to install the connection on Monday (Read 4 DAYS, NOT 4 MONTHS!).
Adios crappy ISP.
