I switched from a small service dial up provider to then Bell-Atlantic when DSL first became available a few years back in the Baltimore area. What was nice about the small company was regular emails prior to any scheduled outages and sometimes after unscheduled ones to let subscribers know what was going on. Not the case with Bell Atlantic/Verizon.
Installation/scheduling was a nightmare. Dates were wrong. At one point they accidentally disconnected my second phone line. I was at the limit of the service, had to have total rewiring from the house to the pole. It was the usual 640/90 ASDL service. It actually took almost 4 months from the time of the initial installation to having it work error free. That and about 3 or 4 visits a month from various supervisors and techs. Finnally a simple phone tech helped me run a dedicated line from inside out to the filter box and he noticed a wrong connection that cleared up my other problems.
Maybe sometimes the "techs" know too much and miss the simple things.
Since that time the service has been pretty smooth, in a big buisness sort of way. As usual, first level customer support definately lacks something.

I am a former Primus/Northpoint customer who, even before the Northpoint disaster, was fed up with both Primus and Northpoint and looking for another provider. When Northpointdisappeared, I started the process of switching my service to DSL in Maryland, which uses Network Access Solutions.
I have been very pleased with the service from both companies. DSL in Maryland gave me a better deal than I had with Primus but even more important was honest about how long things would take and kept me informed as to what was happening. To say the least, the latter was shocking after having the exact opposite experience with Primus/Northpoint -- either no information or incorrect informtion. Although there was a slight delay due to an error in the circuit number provided to Verizon, the DSL service came up on the rescheduled day and is working perfectly.
At this point, I highly recommend DSL in Maryland and hope that things keep going as well as they have.

Made me take off 900 and 700 blocks off my home phone so they could bill directly to my home phone line. No Static IP available. Took them 5 days longer then they quoted me so they gave me a free month!!!! Installed very easily. Came up in 15 mins. I ordered 256-640 download 90 k upload. I am using this on a beta test because I am over 15k feet but under 18k. Seems to be running stable so far.
