After fulfilling my yearly requirement for my old ISP and with DSL from Verizon available with not much of a risk except shipping charges for the modem I decided to try it and it is working much better than the wireless service. It costs less, the speeds are faster and more reliable, and there isn't the extra costs if equipment malfunctions like it would be with my wireless isp.
I have 1500/348 and get 1270 / 371 on the speed test I just did which is in-line with other ex-gte people.
No complaints so far.
03/21/2005 Been working fine except for a couple of outages that effected most Verizon customers in the Pacific North West. I haven't upgraded to the higher speed yet since I don't have the need for that capacity at the moment although the faster upload would be nice. The modem has been up 24/7 with only a couple of power cycles needed.
01/10/2006 Still working great but only have 1500/348 since there's no 3000 service here yet. Uptime is in the 99.99% range.
04/20/2007 Same old report again. Still 1500/384. Uptime is ok but it seems that a single point of failure is present since twice in the last month most if not all of the area code has went dead due to a broken fiber somewhere.
2007-10-08 Same stuff mostly, same speed, occasionally down but mostly at night. They added a search results page for bad urls that are entered. That sucks, I just want to know if it's good or not not some damn page with other crap on it. I want 3000 service too, 1500 is getting closer to not being broadband everyday!
2008-07-09 1500/384 still. Look at all the verizon 7000-dsl and fios ads! look there because it isn't HERE! The land of GTE is forgotten unless you own a palm tree or $50k+ automobiles. Oh and mr. phone guy to fix the line the other day said they love DSL because it frees up all the voice lines people were doubled up on for dialup. Upgrades Upgrades Upgrades everywhere please, I'm sure the $100k's you make off the fiber feeding you know what here could afford you something better for the community.
