    Cost: $69/month

I've had a lot of experience with DSL, and the product that Speakeasy and Covad have put together is a good one. The cost is a little steep for most people, but you really do get what you pay for. In my opinion., the service and price I got is the next best thing besides getting a business class service.

They offer static ip, shell access (for the hardcore user), newsgroup access (although they recently placed a cap on this), and if you want to you can run a small server (email, ftp etc) out of your house.

The tech support is great for the average user as you can reach SE on the forums, phone or email.

Ping times are great as well. I'm getting between 10-15 ms from my local Gateway and DNS IPs. Downloads are fast and i'm getting 90-95% of the speed that was advertised (It helps that I'm only about 5,000 ft from the CO).

My only problem I have/had is that I signed up for the Xbox promotion, but instead got put on the "$29/month for three months" promotion.

Overall I'm very happy. Not as good as my T3 connection at work but then again I can't play games there either.

    Thanks for listening!

    Update: 9/6/06

Lots of problems with Speakeasy in the past year: packet loss, latency issues, billing issues, disconected circuits.. Most recently Speakeasy is using the FUSF fee elimination to get more money out of each and every bodys account. My Speakeasy "Regulatary Compliance Fee" has gone up over $1.65. I've asked several times why my fee's have gone up so much and also tried to get itemized details on what goes into this fee but have been unsuccessful. Check out the speakeasy forum for more details.

    Update: 1/2008

Disconnected. While the service was for the most part reliable the support from Speakeasy has gone down the tubes. I would look elsewhere.

    ?!?!

That is horrible! Speakeasy is noted for their top notch service and if they can't do that right then what's the point?
