I do tech-support for several of the major ilec's so my opinions are somewhat biased because I have to deal with them on a regular basis and have had the opportunity to see both negative and positive experiences of different customers.

I will try to keep it just about my own experiences with qwest to be fair.

The DSL was pre-existing when I moved in so I cannot say how simple the installation process was.

My biggest complaint is that even though I live in a highly residential populated area (although its a smaller city) Qwest only offers 1.5mb DSL in the area serviced off a remote terminal and I am told not to expect anything faster then that in the next 1-2 years.

Apparently they may not even roll out FTTN to my remote terminal (which I am close enough to get 7mb if they would just upgrade the hardware) according to somebody from qwest I spoke to using DSL reports forum

I have not had to call them do to any outages at my current location. Although I do know that they started closing down the call-centers they had in the states a few years back and started moving tech-support to india. It's just one more large company contributing to our lack of Jobs and general poor economy to effect its personal bottom line.

The techs they do have in "India? Argentina?" speak pretty good English and are consistent at fallowing the tech-support guidelines given to them. Although if you have anything more complicated than a no sync issue good luck getting it fixed unless you know whats wrong and can tell them what hey have to fix.

I have used all 3 modem brands qwest sends out. Actiontec, 2-wire, and the Newer motorolo modem. The actiontec and 2-wire brands work pretty well although qwests firmware is not as easy to use as the firmware from the manufacturer

The Motorola is trash. Qwests firmware will not let you configure the modem for Static IP on the the modem. I spent hours trying to figure it out and it is just not possible. The only way to work with Static IP is to bridge the modem and then you cannot take advantage of the router capabilities it has.

Overall the service is not terrible. I could stand to have better ping times to my gateway and would love to see faster speeds become available in my area. I would recommend the service to anyone who wants something reliable and cheaper then Comcast.

Other ISP's I considered are Comcast(Would get comcast in a heartbeat but they screwed up installing it in my neighborhood and its not on my side of the street and they wont fix EVER)

Digis - Digis is the local WISP in my area and they offer up to 7mb but they have VERY aggressive bandwidth caps and throttling If you watched one movie on netflix you would be on 256k for the rest of the month.
