If you have other providers in your area STAY AWAY FROM WINDSTREAM.

Prior to IowaTelecom being taken over by Windstream in my area.... we NEVER dropped below 14Mbps on our 15Mbsp dedicated data line. Well, once when the phone line was taken down by a storm.

Fast forward to after Windstream takes over. So far so good. Then... what happened to my speed? Why is my netflix buffering in at low SD when it should be 720 HD? Why is speed test telling me that I am only getting 1-5 Mbps (mostly on the lower end 1-3)? This has been going on for MONTHS with no resolution.

Daytime speeds are fine, but when the network takes the extra load in the evenings (generally after 7pm-ish) speeds just plummet, often times below 1Mbps. We use NetFlix for all our viewing entertainment and we have to VPN for work when critical issues arise also. During the evening peak hours... both NetFlix and VPN are pretty much useless. So I cross my fingers and hope that no critical issues arise at my work... otherwise I will most likely have to hop in my car and make the ~1hour drive at $3.50 per gallon.

Windstream tech support will simply tell you that their network is fine. Sure, it's fine during the day. However, they never test in the evenings and so they continue to stay blind to the problem. Their billing dept is no help. Their general response is that they do not guarantee speeds and as long as you are getting connected there is no problem or billing dispute.

If you have other providers in your area STAY AWAY FROM WINDSTREAM.

UPDATE:
If I could give them lower than worst in services, values for money, and connection reliability I would.

Agree with your review

Agreed, I support a church in our town and HATE having to deal with their support. Was told to only expect 65% of the speed, That is horrible, At least with Mediacom I can see 80-90% of the speed I pay for. Mediacom may not be the best but they are an A in my book over Windstream

Dedicated Dataline????!??

Are you talking about DSL or an actual leased line? If you are talking about DSL. Sorry to break the news to ya; but it is FAR from being dedicated and speeds are UP TO. if you require an actual dedicated internet connection; Windstream would be happy to sell you one just call in and talk to their business department. Takes up to 30 days to install and not 5 days like DSL.

BTW; NONE of the Internet is Dedicated except your last mile on a paid dedicated leased line. DSL is NOT dedicated either; unlike what the telcos want to believe.
