"No fiber, nothing faster than the same 5-year-old 6Mbps yet"
"Better then cable, no port blocking, 6016/768 is good, but getting outdated"

(March 2004) Well Covad can't offer me service anymore, and SBC said I could get 1536/256 for $64.95 + some b.s. FUSF. I had 1536/384 for $79.95 with Covad before I moved, and there was no taxes or fees on top of that $79.95. (I always get the packages with the 8 static IPs)
The SBC "Team Data" people basically lied to me, since the RT I'm on has not yet been "upgraded". I only get 1536/128 instead of 1536/256. Apparently this multi-year project to upgrade the speed profiles at the RTs is still going on, and it will likely take until June 2004 before they are complete. I have no idea why it should really take that long (2-3 years, they are near the end of the cycle of upgrades now I guess) just to update a profile at an RT to allow me to get a faster upload. I'm now stuck in a 12month contract for 1536/256 hoping that in 4-5 months I will actually get that 256k upload. I'm thinking about upgrading to the 6.0/608 package they offer, but I think that it will really be 3.0/384 until the RT is upgraded from what I've been hearing.
*update* I got my upgrade, after a ton of extra calls to sales, since the order didn't make it into ALL of the systems the first time, it didn't happen when it was first supposed to, but now I am finally at 6016/608 ($100/month) and it's great. Until Covad gets into these RTs, SBC is the only choice for me. Its too bad because they really aren't that organized and don't communicate between departments very well it seems. The only thing that saves SBC is the great tech support you can find here on dslreports.com.
~3 years later and the price is down $5 but the speeds remain 6.0/608, which is getting pretty mediocre for 2007. They better offer higher speeds soon!
Another update. Still at 6.0/608. Doesn't look like any faster speeds are coming this way anytime soon. Too bad there is no fiber option from AT&T.
(June 2008) Yet another update, some 4.5 years after I signed up at this house. Price is down to $80/month with a new 12-month contract. I needed a new router because the power adapter on my old one died. I got a free 2wire 2701HG-B (after instant credit, only had to pay $12 shipping and sign up for a new contract). Seems like old one, but supports 802.11g and WPA2 instead of just 802.11b and WEP like the old 1800HW. The new plan ups my upload from 608 to 768, which is also nice. Overall, I'm paying slightly less for slightly more now, but I wish ADSL+/VDSL/Fiber or something was available here now, because 6Mbps is starting to feel outdated.
(May 2009) Upgraded to 18/1.5 U-Verse VDSL. Went very smoothly, speeds are great and consistent.
