I bought Ameritech around August after a battle with MSN for them to finally let go of my phone lines. It took about 2 weeks for the DSL date to finally arrive. I got my parts in about 3 days.
Setting up was a problem, the DSL set-up page was down for a good part of the day, but I eventually got back online.
Since I have gotten DSL, I have transfered gigabytes of data, email is always (98%) up. Sometimes I lag a little bit on games, which is a turn off. I logged on 56K to play a game and lagged less. But overall it isn't bad.
The Service is up most of the time, however it has been down a few times in the past. This lasts for around 1 day, which is annoying, but I have 56K access to back myself up.
Update Sept 07 DSL working great. No complaints.
The deal I am getting is great 12 months of unlimited 768/128kbit access for $29.99.
Overall I would give them a 8 out of 10.
Update: (05/2003)
Lagging has improved greatly. Whatever was going wrong got worked out. I change DNS servers every now and then, so I think that is why I am getting the better bandwith.
Update (12/06/2003) DSL has been awsome. I hardly ever get disconnected now. Uptime is unbelieveable. Occasionally I need to reboot my modem, but thats no big deal. Speed is still 768/128, hoping for upgrades someday, but for @29.95/month, it is no big deal.
Update (02/02/2004) I finally got a speed upgrade. I am now running 1500/256 for $29.95/month. I am very happy with this service.
Update (05/10/2004) After 3 long months of shotty service (due to bad modem), I upgraded to the 3mbit plan. Speeds are great, couldn't be happier! My speed tests are around 2.2mbit/384kbit. For only $39/month, Great deal!
Update (03/21/2004) SBC upgraded my upload speed to 512kbps at no extra charge. Service runs great, hardly any downtime.
