Update: The past 8 years have been as near trouble free as can reasonably be expected. I started out with the 768/128 package, and currently have the 3.0/512 package. I see consistent speeds on tests of 2.5+/435, which is just about the maximum after taking into account overhead.
The connection itself has been rock solid, with only 1 outage in the past year. Overall, reliability is on a par with most utilities (electric and gas companies).
While I haven't need the phone tech support in a while, I would wholeheartedly recommend the on line SBC support available on this website. These official techs are wonderful, and only an instant message away.
The only problem I have is that I can't get the 6.0 package...but hopefully soon it will be available to me and look f forward to upgrading my connection.
