i live on a corner, downtown, in the capital city of my state. across one street is a university, across the other is the country club (i'm not a member, but it's over there). the point is, that i'm surrounded by fast access.
I signed up for 3 meg service. I initially got about 650K. bad, but tolerable. this was when it was bellsouth.
but i was paying for 1-3megs so i kept calling them.
the line tech (finally) came out to look around and he showed me a box 20feet away... across the street. See that? if i run a loop across the street from that box, you'll have 6-7 megs.
that never happened. the service transitioned to ATT and my speeds started sliding down down down to the high 300k range.
i called to get help. over and over. i continued to struggle and endure tech support/ESOL classes from india, philipinnes, and god knows where else. they finally said that i had signed up for too fast a plan. if i downgraded my plan, my speed would actually increase. well i've tried everything else so ok, do it.
my speed fell further from high 300's to low 200s. the internet basically isn't accessable at those speeds for anything other than text.
i called again... bangalore. i keep asking to talk to the line techs because they have ALREADY identified the solution!! but instead they make adjustments to "noise level" and stuff like that.
i'm an IT professional with an obligation for after hours system support. 200k is an extreme liability.
ATT and their "globalized" org structure (offshore call centers... poor english... no tech skills) is a giant globe of SUCK.
