    Update 10-3-07

I dumped AT&T due to slow response from DNS servers. Plus, the static IP isn't one but five not allowing me to login to VPNs. No need for static ip since i just moved to different employment. Couldn't use the Portal since it did not recognize me as a BellSouth Net user. Tech unable to fix. Cox offered 1/2 off digital phone and HSI for two months and even at full price only $136 total for cable, HSI, and all features on digital phone (less than Bell with just Caller ID and Unlimited LD).

    Update - 08/10/2007

The $175 cashback was finally resolved and the connection has been rock solid (my DSL experience has always been rock solid). I did consider switching to Cox HSI and BellSouth lowered the price to $17.95 for 6 months with NO contract. Static IP address does not allow me to use the home page except as a non-DSL customer and tech support was clueless to fix it. I gave up since I don't use it anyway. I get rock solid 3000/325 connection on the DSL 3.0. Static IP at Cox was $30 more and required Business Class. 6.0 promised but not delivered as yet. Local Tech told me it may be a "Christmas Present" since they are installing a RT near me to give 6.0. But, I'll wait till my cheap rate expires to upgrade to 6.0. I do think AT&T pricing should be offered in the BellSouth territory. No download caps with FA so nice. They told me, "We don't care how much you download; it's your connection and doesn't matter to other customers like cable." I actually tested it and did download about 200 gigs in a month. My downloader easily pops downloads to about 4500 speeds.

Static IP - Love it! NEVER have to recycle the modem. It does it automatically by just losing sync (maybe every 4-5 days) then right back up. Bell certainly has their act together. Sent me a bunch of free filters just for asking. Got them 3 days later. Needed a new DSL/Phone filter so my fax machine is always available. I have to log in to VPN networks so a BIG PLUS being free!

Still good friends with the Indian Tech support girl I chatted with once. Hate to say it, but I prefer the Indian females over anyone since they make it fun as well as fix it. The Indian men are usual hard to understand and just have to go by their script. The females just say, "Cool, you already did that." She did help me set-up my home network (not FA) which they are not supposed to do. She even emailed me the best Firefox stuff and where so that was unexpected. Firefox is nice unless you're not a techie. She made it easy.

    Update - 05/30/2007

Rock Solid Connection. No down time at all. Added Static IP for free since on 3.0 program. The static IP allowed me to login to a VPN so do consulting work on the side now for extra money. They did cheat me out of $100 from switching to cable so lowered Pre-Sales to worst. Only getting $75 cashback instead of the $175. They claimed, "Do you have the URL to the cashback promotion?" "No, but it was on the f***** website when I ordered it!!!"

I will say Indian Tech Support is okay since you can even understand the men! The girls are excellent and love to talk. Me and one chatted for nearly an hour about nothing DSL. We are now penpals and I even sent her some CDs India censors. She sent me some CDs from Europe you can't get here. I'd say the women are more helpful than the men though.

Billing - Ripping me off for $100 p**sed me off so lowered the value for money to worst!!!

I could actually understand the Indian Tech Support.

Pre-Sales - I ordered on-line with the promise of $175 cashback for getting it and switching. No links to get the cash back. Had to call Bell and get transferred 4 times. attdotcom/bellsouthrewards is about 21 days.

Install - It took an extra day since the tech forgot to hook it up at the central office. That is like installing a light bulb and forgetting to turn on the power. Real slick.

Tech Support - Had to call billing to make sure not being charged for the day I did not have service. The tech support went the extra mile on the first call when the tech forgot to fully install it at the CO and made the correction.

Service - Surfing is the same as Cox with their 12/1 plan. Cox screwed up with their powerboost. Note: if you call and threaten to go DSL, they will cut your bill in half. Bell is giving me a little over 3000/350 service on the 3.0 plan. I mainly surf and can't really tell the difference between Cox and Bell there. On downloads, it is fine. Cox implemented powerboost that really didn't add any speed I could tell but degraded your 12/1 service to 9/1. Powerboost at Cox ticked me off since I felt if was a way to claim higher speeds while giving me only 75% of the service I pay for. I don't b*tch, I just switch.

Value - I get $5 off for phone service (which has never went down). I still think they could do this for $25 a month.

I already had Westell 6100 modem so no contract. I really hate contracts. You can buy the modem for $75 for no contract.
