    My Other Reviews·Callcentric
    ·RoadRunner Cable
I added BellSouth to my home network primarily for a backup to RoadRunner. I'm one of those who work from home so I must have a network backup to access my work. This is very critical to me.

Since BellSouth had just upgraded to 6.0 in my area, I called and was able to obtain the 3 MG/350 package for about the same price as my 8 MG/512 for RR. So bits to dollars, BellSouth is more expensive. The benefit of BellSouth is static IPs. For most, this won't matter but I like it for video conferencing.

Connection was simple. I ordered a Westell 2100 from e-bay for $20.00. BellSouth wanted $75.00 for a modem and a year’s commitment. So, I went for the $20.00 modem and no commitment not knowing what shape my line might be in. Since these are pass-through routers, I just plugged my modem in to my D-Link 634M, entered the PPOE info and presto, off and running.

The connection is extremely reliable. The only "outage" I had to endure was when the power dropped in the neighborhood and so did DSL about 30 minutes later (I have 4 UPS boxes in my office). Quite surprised, just toggled back over to RR.

I have 4 computers, all wireless (Florida lightning) and a wireless printer. 3 computers are on RR, while one is on BS. They all can switch between networks at will.

If you are a user not running horrendous downloads and want reliability, then I'd give BS a try. They are a little slower than most, but I suspect competition will soon correct that.

    Cheers.

All is well, my down/up are consistent and have not an issue on my 6MG connection. I did buy a fabulous combination wireless router/modem for the connection that works flawlessly. It's a Westell 327W with battery backup - easy to configure and a gem. I hope this gem never goes west on me.
