I ordered Verizon DSL (naked DSL only) on 7/25/08. I received an email confirmation on 7/28/08 regarding my order status. The modem had been shipped out, and my service date was scheduled to be 8/5/08.
I received my modem on 8/2/08 and got it ready for installation.
I ran homerun line from the NID to the modem. I ran cat6 from my PC to the DSL modem, and tested the connection, no problems there since I can ping it. I checked the NID on 8/4/08 and someone from VZ moved my homerun twisted pair from my side of the NID port, into the VZ side of the NID.
On 8/5/08, I was not able to get online. I called tech support at 10AM, and they told me it would be activated at 6PM. When I returned home from work, still no connectivity to the internet, so I called tech support back. At which point they told me there was no signal from my modem to the CO. They told me they would issue a ticket.
I called at 9AM on 8/6/08 to see what the status of the ticket was, and of course, there was no ticket placed. So after going through my whole situation, the VZ rep was able to get the provisioning department to commit to sending out a tech to the CO on 8/6/08 to get the wiring completed.
We'll see if I have internet connectivity when I get home today I guess.
Update 8/7/06 - I finally cancelled the VZ service order after not being able to get a straight answer. On 8/5/08 I was told while I called VZ from work that I had a signal to the modem and I would have DSL after 6PM. 8/6/08 I learn that my line wasn't even provisioned yet, even though I had received an automated call and email saying my service was ready. Oh yeah, what happened during the 12 days between my order to the service ready date? Does VZ just arbitrarily pick a service date and then hope the line gets provisioned? On 8/7/08 I could not get a straight answer from support on what needed to be done to my line, and how long it would take, and when I would get service.
I finally cancelled the order called Comcast Internet. It can't be hard to plug in RG-6 cable to a cable modem, get an IP and DNS and start surfing. I used to be a proponent of DSL, but with this many headaches and potential hurdles, DSL just isn't worth it.
