I had DSL installed in 2000 and there were many problems with it. No one person was able to take charge to get things fixed as Verizon is comprised of 3 separate companies (ILEC AKA Phone Company, VASG then called VADI which controls network operations, and lastly VOL, the ISP). So the finger pointing began and I was left in the cold wondering if I was ever going to get off of satellite. At last, someone decided to take charge of things and I soon had DSL installed.
Other than some problems related to either hurricane damage or equipment failure at the CO, I have not had any real problems with my service and the longest I was down for was about 4 days when something had to be replaced in the CO.
I realize there have been people who have had constant problems with their service but mine has been very reliable for seven years now.
UPDATE: October, 2008- The service continues to be rock solid with no problems. FIOS is now available to me, so as soon as I can make space available in the garage for the power supplies and BBU equipment, I plan on going with dual ONT units on the 20/20 plan. I will then drop Brighthouse cable which we have in addition to Verizon DSL as both myself and the wife use the Internet extensively for academic research purposes. She is working on her MBA program and I am finishing up my Paralegal degree then I will be continuing on with my Bachelor degree then Law school. I have a dual WAN router in case one route fails, it will auto-switch to the other route.
