I made the switch from cable to DSL because of the price. Cable (which was $45.00 a month, and only offered upload speeds of 256k) was getting a little pricey for me. I saw the ad for Verizon Online DSL, speeds up to 3.0 down, 769k up, for only $29.95 a month when you sign up for a year, $34.95 if you decide you dont want a yearly contract.
They shipped out my package and I recieved it two days later, and the next night I was able to install my DSL service. Right off the bat the service rocked! I get a constant (not fluctuating) 2696k down, 714k up, which is amazing considering the price! I get pings of 50-60ms, which also is great, and I get little to no latency. The service, if you decide to download it, comes with MSN Premium as an added bonus. As far as equipment they sent me a Westell 327w with a built in wireless router with 4 ports. Browses the internet flawlessly, and plays XBOX live like a charm, I couldnt be happier with my switch from Cable Internet.
Thanks verizon!
Well I have had the service for a while now, and I can say that I love it! Great ping times, now they are in the 20 to mid 30's. Xbox Live runs FLAWLESSLY, and the wireless router runs my 2nd computer, and wireless xbox adapter perfectly. Only a few outages, which were very minor......all in all still very pleased with the service.
Once again, thanks verizon!
(Updated) April 7th 2006 @ 9:46P.M. Well it's been quite some time now that I've first made the switch from cable, and I'm still very happy with my choice. 1 or 2 minor outages, very predicatble speeds, great pings on quake 4/doom 3 servers...so I'm still very happy!
Update December 2nd 2006 Still going strong with Verizon. No outages at all, still great pings on XBL and on Fear and Quake 4. Other than that, it's all the same!
Update February 16th 2007 My DSL modem crashed about two weeks ago, and verizon said they would send a free replacement in 5-10 days. Well, I have a working modem now, but somehow my service went "inactive" and Verizon says that I have to place a new DSL order. WHY? It's not my fault the DSL modem crapped out, and why do I need to place a new order on top of an existing DSL line? Here is the complete kicker. They said that it will take 3-5 days for the line to show a complete "inactive" status, and then I have to place a new DSL order. Then in another 3-5 days I will recieve a "service ready date", which could be up to 10 days after my order is placed.
Bullshit.
NO matter what I have done in my phone calls, Verizon is sticking by their guns and all I can do is bend over and take it.
If there were any other reliable options around here for broadband, I would leave Verizon in a heartbeat.
