Back in 2004 when I had DSL service, everything was a better experience. However, today after comparing and contrasting to Cable, I have noticed that things are something to be desired.
To give you an example, while playing COD4, on servers that I would have low to mid 40's ms over a Cable connection, I had a 70-80ms latency on the same exact server.
In addition, while in the middle of playing, I would eventually timeout on the server, and then find out the reason would be because I had an IP Address change (e.g. the PPPoE session disconnected for some reason...happened enough to make me drop DSL service after 5 days). Outside of gaming, the connection was reliable, and never had disconnects.
While doing a simple tracert to the other Cable WAN connection (since I had a dual WAN), I was pinging 60 ms. So, I guess, DSL Service (while on Interleaved, never switched over to Fast Path), is not very good for gaming.
Cox has certainly provided faster, more reliable service in my opinion. However, you cannot really compare the two services, because they are two distinctively different technologies.
