    Update (24 October 2006)

Well service is finally up. Good so far....

    Update (10 October 2006):

Whoa, what do you know Verizon DSL is once again offered in my area. Everything is hooked up (Placed the call on the 2nd to order the DSL / DirecTV combo...) DSL tech came out today and did his thing. Connected everything up, up / down shows 3,360 / 860 in the status page (It's the Westell 327W, pretty neat it comes with Wireless...), but no go so far, called Verizon and finally got to tier two, was informed the tech came out a day early and installed it and everything should be good to go tomorrow, we'll see...

    Update: (13 December 04)

Lets see, on the last bill I got Verizon gave me a credit for DSL. I didnt think much of it, until I go to use the Internet and there is a message stating that I need to contact Verizon (comes up whenever I try to go to a web site). So I do, and I am told they don't offer DSL in my area. Funny, I've had it for the past year (they just opened up this area when I ordered it!). And goes on to offer me dialup. I refuse. So I call back, and talk to a Manager who looks up the issue for me and calls me back and says the reason I no longer have DSL is because they are putting Fiber in (cool!) so I ask when that would be available, he guessed around 2010!! Screw that! Looks like I have to go back to Cox. Sucks too, because Verizon had no download cap, and the price / performance was perfect. Anyone else with an 851 or 850 prefix get the boot as well?

    Update: (15 June 04)

Well signed up for the speed increase on 19 May, still dont have it. Everytime it gets put through, and is canx the day it is supposed to happen. Been put through countless run arounds, departments blaming each other, then Billing said it was the regional office that canx it, called them and they said Billing over at Verizon DSL services canx it.. Bleh! I'm qualified for it, and they have run tests on it (Im on an RT that is right down the block, and my house its self is only 6,000 feet from the CO..). I dont think I'll ever get the upgrade.

    Update: (15 May 04)

Connection is still rock solid. Waiting for those upgrades to come about (384kbps is going to kick ass). They fixed my billing problem stated on my last post, and gave me a month free. When the 3/768 plan rolls out I'm going to jump on it (Faster than the connection Cox offers over here). It's nice living right next to the RT

    Update: (31 Jan 04)

Well, connection reliability is still great, (1.516Mb down/138kbps up) BUT the billing department sucks, I spend on average 1/2 hour to 1 hour waiting to try to fix billing errors (they're charging me 89.99 a month for residential!!!) And they never gave me my first month free OR the 29.99 a month thereafter (for 2 months) If they're going to charge me that much then I should at least see an up in the upload speed, or at least a static IP =\ I havent been able to get a hold of them, even after multiple e-mails and daily waits on hold (I cant stay on hold forever, I have to work) So... Other than that service is ok, still want faster uploads 138kbps is a JOKE. (Need more like 384kbps)!

    Update: (6 Dec 03)

Well service is still solid. Same speeds, no connection problems so far. Still trying to get Cavtel.com's service. =( These upload speeds are pathetic (133kbps). Would like it if they also increased the download as well. But overall great service for the everyday surfer. Changed the e-mail and connection reliability to 5 stars. Tech support is still sub par. But Overall I am happy. (Much Better than Cox HSI, my speeds are constant, and dont burst or drop. Also online gaming is more stable, however the 133kbps really limits everything...*Sigh* And I really want to get my servers up (But alas.. Verizon needs to show that my area is serviceable to DSL).

    Update: (24 Nov 03)

Well, after these past couple days service has been great, no dropped connections, solid speed. Only (BIG) complaint is the upload speed. 134kbps? TOO slow. I've been looking into Cavtel.com and would switch to them as they offer 4Mbps down/1Mbps up (and allow you to run servers; ie: web, ftp, etc) which appeals to me. Only problem is Verizon hasnt update their records in terms of my area's eligibility (I'm the first and only one using DSL here...so far). So Until they fix it, they wont sign me up. *Sigh* Anyone else try Cavalier DSL? I've seen some complaints about how long it takes to set it up but, compared to the 47 days it took for verizon.... =\ Oh well... My advice to everyone who uses Verizon, complain until they increase their upstream for residental accounts.

Well, I signed up for the service 47 days ago, and after they canceled it twice because the techs said I had firber optics up to my house (haha right), and I had to wait 2 more weeks on top of that to get the hardware, and I just barely got it up today (of course they just did open the area up to DSL the day I ordered it) But the speed is nice, they tested my line at 1.7Mbits (I get 1.4 thanks to TCP overhead) and 147 up (133 actual). I live about 2 blocks from the CO (actually not even the real CO, its a terminal in front of a middle school. And from there its connected to the real CO by fibre optics..) Funny thing is I'm only 1 mile away from the real CO. Oh well. Anyhow, I don't know much about the reliability of the service yet. But, I could use some more download speed. I got rid of cox because of their speed cap (I signed an unlimited internet access EULA, and then they change over to a cap? hah! I miss the @home days) Anyhow, does anyone know if verizon imposes a monthly/daily cap?? But, so far.. I'd reccomend Verizon DSL, if you like waiting insane ammounts of time to get it up.
