Final update for DSL at this address.
My DSL line was solid for years. Then about 6 months ago it began having problems which got progressively worse until last few months it was basically un-usable when the problems occurred (which seemed to be random and mostly at night.)
The line wouldn't drop sync, but the connection was so bad, it was un-usable. You couldn't surf or download files or email, etc
I didn't push the issue with AT&T because I was buying a new house and moving and the line is now shut down. At the new home, I went with Cox Telephone and HSI, simply because the promotional pricing for Telephone + Internet is about $10 cheaper then AT&T POTS + DSL, and the Cable is a bit faster.
The other problem is AT&T won't offer the bundle I want. I have Dish Network, I'd like a Wireless phone, and I need High Speed Internet. Sound like an ideal candidate for AT&T bundle deal, right? WRONG.
AT&T won't let you have naked DSL without POTS. IE No bundle of Wireless+DSL+Dish. U can get naked DSL, apparently, as a big headache, but then you are limited to only the slowest speeds! They want you to have POTS + Wireless Phone. AT&T: Get with the program.... Offer a high speed broadband, + Wireless + Dish, and then offer (CHEAP) a digital phone VOIP over Broadband phone for home.
Stop trying to protect your POTS revenue by insisting on POTS lines, and expensive bundles of long distance and caller features. COX is owning you here on digital telephone.
So, I dumped AT&T and went with Cox....
HOWEVER a big Caveat to this is that U-Verse will be available soon--- and I am planning on trying it.... So I'm on Cox, and the Telephone works great, and Internet is good also, --but-- the TOS and AUP is restrictive, the declared usage caps are PATHETIC, and Cox pricing, once the introductory rate expires, is way too high. Not to mention SANDVINE and other things being deployed....
So, I'll let U-Verse come in, I'll let a few months pass while they work out bugs, and then when the Cox deal is nearly expired, I'll switch to U-Verse and see if it's all that and a bag of potato chips....
Bye AT&T... for now.... but if you drop the ball on U-Verse, maybe for keeps.
