I was tired of paying big money for phone service that I don't use. Considering I have cel phone, I was looking for a cheap way to keep my phone number active, without paying that much. VoIP came at my rescue.

I bought transfered my number with them from Videotron. The process worked flawlessly, and took around 1 week like advertised. I took another number for family. Like that, they can phone us without having to pay. The site is well designed, but not for the average user. They expect you to know what you are doing, and it's pretty self-service.

The line quality is ok, but I got some jibber, surely because I didn't have good QOS before changing my DSL modem. Now, it's very good. Sometime some number just don't work.

I chatted with tech support. They resolved some of my problem, but there is still a canadian number they can't route for me, causing me some problem.

And there is no fax support. But still. Since it's so cheap, I can't really complain. I got another account with CallCentric for faxing.

I'm upgrading my reliability score. Didn't have any problem with my call for some time now. I think they have fixed the problem with some call routing. Call quality is also a bit better.

only 25% reliability and 50% for call quality?

I see that your rated the reliability at only 25%.

In your above review, you state that that you get some "jibber" (not sure what that means), but you attribute that to not setting up the QoS on your router.

You also state that, "there is still a canadian number they can't route for me". I am not sure if you mean that you are having trouble placing an outgoing call to this number, or that you are not able to receive incoming calls from a certain number.

It would seem to me that if these are the only two 'issues' you've had, then it does not justify at mere 25% rating for reliability!

If you've had more issues, please elaborate on them. Otherwise, you might consider changing the reliability rating....

Also, I see that you only rated the call quality at 50%. Can you please elaborate on the issues you've had with call quality? A 50% rating would seem to mean that half of your calls had unacceptable call quality. Is this really the case?

Re: only 25% reliability and 50% for call quality?

No.

I put 25% for call reliability because I can't trust them to route all my call. There is some number that I simply can't dial in Canada, because there is a problem in their system. Even after asking for them to check that, it still a problem. Sometime, the phone ring for nothing too. I got people sometime complaining that they can reach me. Lately, there is a lot of 'Emergency maintenance'.

I put call quality at 50% because I guess it's the "average". The people who call me sometime complain, even if there is no traffic on my internet connection. No fax support enter in that category too.

I think my review is pretty fair for the service I have. I'm not saying their bad. It's so cheap that I can forgive a lot. I'm staying with them, but only because I have a cel phone too.

Re: only 25% reliability and 50% for call quality?

Based on past reviews, your experience is not typical. How do you know the problem is not on your end? Just because you don't have any other traffic on your network does not mean that the problem is not with your ISP or with your equipment.

I am not sure what you mean by 'emergency maintenance'. Do you mean that the server you are registered to goes down a lot? If this is the case I highly recommend that you try another server (even if it is further away from you). In fact, I believe that a lot of customers from Canada register to a U.S. based server and have better reliability.

Re: only 25% reliability and 50% for call quality?

Thank you for trying to help I guess. But, could you respect my review, like I respect yours. Maybe you have a "near perfect" experience with voip.ms, but that's not my case. I use Callcentric too, and never got a problem with them. (Only problem is that they can't port my phone number yet.) Maybe my setting was the problem at first, but now, it certainly not the case.

And it's not like I'm saying they are bad. My review is after all positive.

Re: only 25% reliability and 50% for call quality?

While I still disagree with the reliability rating, I realize that this represents how you feel about it.

One thing that people have to realize about BYOD providers is that you often are on your own in terms of troubleshooting if something goes wrong...
