Update 1/02/06:
Everything is good now that I have my full 1536/384k sync rate back and but on interleaved channel now instead of fast like before! My down rate can't exceed 1536k because of my loop length is long and the line condition is not that great. It can do 608k up max but this package only let's you do 384k there. It would be great if AT&T would upgrade the upload rates to 6016/768 for Expert plus, 3008/608 for Pro, and 1536/512 for Express! Also how about some over capping to compensate for lost bandwidth do to ATM and maybe PPPoE overhead! I don't think my line could handle the extra speed anyways cause the down side is already at it's limits and I still use a SS 5100a modem.
Well at least I'm a little over a megabit down now and I don't think anything under a meg is broadband anymore.
Update 12/12/06:
Well I'm still chugging along with a 1536/384k interleaved sync rate and my line is still as long as ever to the damn CO. RT's are unheard of in my area so there's still no hope there! I now have a 2Wire 2701HG-B Gateway modem/router that I recently inherited from a family member. It likes to crash and reboot on me everyday and I think it is because it doesn't have enough internal memory to keep it stable in heavy use. I found this out from the 2Wire forums that we have here.
Update 9/26/07:
Well nothing much has changed since my last review except that I'm back on an old SS 5100a modem because the family member that gave me the 2Wire 2701HG-B wanted it back a few months later so he could try to give it back to AT&T and get his money back from them. My old modem still does fine but I do miss looking at the browser based stats page to see how my connection is doing from time to time. I still have Express with a sync rate of 1536/384k which is cool because it is only $19.99 a month with tax infested POTS. I did have it switched to fast path late last year cause my line had cleaned itself up enough so it was possible to do so again and that made my connection a little snappier for online games and web surfing. The last thing to report it that there was a VRAD cabnet put in next to the cross connect box in my area 2 maybe 3 months ago and I guess that U-verse will be available to me sometime next year. I just hope that my line distance is 3,000ft or less so I can get it if I started to get sick of Comcast cable tv and I wanted to swich to that. One more thing to mention is that I have AT&T Yahoo! DSL and it's not called Pacific Bell - SBC anymore, it hasn't been for a long time now. I wish there was a way to change my review to the new name.
