Things started off terrific talking to Mike Roemerman, very knowledgeable. Unfortunately, Ameritech is my tele co and they took forever to come out, and then left a short in a line so that when Phoenix did come out, the connection could not be completed.
While signing up, Mike told me my contract would only be for 208 cause he was not sure that I could do better @ 17,500 feet from the CO. But he assured me, if your line is good we can increase you. Sounded really fair so I completed the deal.
About 1 in 3 telephone calls were returned after the contract was signed. About 1 out of 2 e-mails were answered about 3-5 days later. No updating on Phoenix's part, guess it is self help.
Finally they sent the Rhythms crew out to install the modem, but since Ameritech had a crossed line, they left me the modem to finish the install. They left me bouyant when they told me that they have seen numberous connects up to 660 at my distance. Thought I was going to rock. Then I went about a week with connects less than a 56K modem. The first people I dealt with were not that familiar with provisioning for Rhythms, seems I was the 31st person in my area.
They eventually got my connection straightened out but I was set to 208. Called Mike several times and finally he told me that Rhythms only had 208 and that they were still bargaining with Rhythms to be able to offer the 384/384 but cannot assure me when and if that will happen. Mike asked, "well are'nt you happy with the price?" Sorta $40 @208 is better than my old ISDN with $94 @128, but $45 @ 384 is a much better deal.
Funny, Phoenix also brokers Northpoint that offers 408. Why did Mike not sell me the Northpoint connect since he knew from square one that I wanted the fastest connect possible. WORSE YET - I feel he lied to me, or at best, mislead the hell out of me, telling me that I could be moved up in speed if the line was ok. Phoenix even advertises 384/384 by Rhythms with residential usage, but Mike informs me that it is not available. Had Mike set me up with Northpoint to begin with, perhaps I could be getting 768 or 660 today. At least I would be at 408.
I don't think this is a good deal since for $5 I should be able to double my speed and can't because -- an option that I was promised and that which appears on their advertising -- does not exist. And now I am stuck for 2 years.
Lied to?? Misrepresented?? STUCK!!!
signed Bob, who was taken for a boob.
